Desire Petroleum are drilling in Falklands (DES)

free hit countersDesire Petroleum

<>Desire Petroleum plc (Desire) is a UK company listed on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) dedicated to exploring for oil and gas in the North Falkland Basin.

Desire has recently completed a 6 well exploration programme. The Liz well encountered dry gas and gas condensate at 2 separate levels while other wells recorded shows.
Together with the Rockhopper Exploration Sea Lion oil discovery in the licence to the north, these wells have provided significant encouragement for the potential of the North Falkland Basin. The oil at Sea Lion is of particular interest as this has demonstrated that oil is trapped in potentially significant quantities in a fan sandstone on the east flank of the basin. It is believed that over 50% of this east flank play fairway is on Desire operated acreage.

Desire has now completed new 3D seismic acquisition which provides coverage over the east flank play, Ann, Pam and Helen prospects. The results from fast-track processing of priority areas are provided in the 2011 CPR. A farm-out to Rockhopper has been announced. The revised equities are shown on the licence map (subject to regulatory approval and completion of the farm-in well).

Hi all

The open 0.4475p, high 0.4550p, low 0.4475p, close 0.4550p, combined volume 279.0 K. The volume was down again today both buying & selling. The bulls were slightly ahead. DES up 2.25% since yesterday. The candle pattern is a bullish harami. The harami is suggesting DES may be about to have a trend reversal. With all the other indicators suggesting the same. DES looks promissing for a rally. The bears seem to be very few now. It may be time for some action from the bulls. Lets hope it's soon !

Peak hope to deliver 30 wells worldwide this year so they are an experienced group. 3 wells in the Falklands will be a major contract for them and their extensive experience means that they should be a safe pair of hands to run the project. Now we just need to hear some news about a rig or drill ship being hired and our shares should spring back to life. Thank you Eddie for the good news.

Peak Group certainly look the biz and no-one should have any worries on that score I just hope next rns is the next(well known) farmin partner, as i feel it is the only thing that will push the sp to new levels.
I am very dissappointed at the lack of sp action today but i guess the market has a good memory and has yet to forgive des its earlier (98) failings. One things for sure, when des have confirmed credentials (oil quants in their acreage), the market and other oil companies will be forced to re-align the valuation and sp of des.( This will be ssss not pennies)

Keep up the good work

From Money Week

Falkland Islands Update.
Last November, money week round table member Sven Lorenz tipped the Falklands as a place to invest due to their massive oil reserves- thought to be up to 60billion barrels.
But thanks to the relatively high cost of pumping it up (around $15 a barrel), the region has long been ignored. Now with oil prices hitting new records every day, the game has changed. Who cares if it takes $15 to get out?
Aim listed Falklands Oil & Gas Limited (FOGL) is one of the key players in the area and a recent favourite among punters thanks to its huge oil exploration area of 83,000 square kilometres; the shares have risen from 70p to 118p since November. One of the firms main shareholders is Falkland Island Holdings (FKL). It owns vast tracts of land and supermarkets in the islands and is a nice play on the region even if one of FOGLs competitors find oil first, FKL will profit as property prices soar on the back of the oil boom.
Finally, Lorenz has been keen on Desire Petroleum (DES), which has risen from 12p to it current 43p in the last year.
Both FOGL and DES have done seismic surveys, and both have the finance to undertake drilling. So should you keep holding them? If you think oil prices will stay high, yes, says Lorenz; these shares are oil-price dependant and that makes them, to a degree, speculative investments. The more cautious who still want exposure are best off in FKL, but those looking for a punt might wait until late 2005 when a third Falkland Islands oil exploration firm, Rockhopper Exploration, is likely also to be AIM listed.

I think the rig announcement and farmin partner may well be the same rns. ie both from the same company (for example shell as partner and shell to supply rig). It would certainly explain the delay in rig confirmation.

The "twist" could well be this. It would certainly put the sp over 1.50 overnight, what with a big name/a rig and more wells.

We live in hope

Hi all

Well with all the main idices down, it's no wonder DES also went down today. The open 0.4650p, high 0.4800p, low 0.4475p, close 0.4500p, combined volume 960.0 K. The volume was up slightly from Fridays volume. Unfortunatly the bears kept dragging DES down. The candle we have is bearish, so tomorrow should confirm if the RNS has been well received. Lets hope for a better day tomorrow !

PEAK'S EXPERTISE ENGAGED BY DESIRE FOR FALKLANDS DRILLING CAMPAIGN
Next Story | Previous Story | Back to list
DAVID TELFER

09:00 - 12 April 2005
Aberdeen company Peak Well Management has won a contract to manage a project likely to be worth several millions of pounds to explore for oil in the prospective Falklands basin in the south Atlantic.

Peak has been engaged by Desire Petroleum to carry out detailed well-test design and drilling project management on a planned three-well programme targeting potentially more than a billion barrels of oil.

The job will also involve contracting for all services and execution of the drilling, including materials and logistics.

Desire's chief executive, Ian Duncan, said yesterday that three wells were planned at this stage but the contract value to Peak would depend on the number of wells eventually drilled. He added that Desire, which last month raised 25million in a share placing, was trying to hire a rig to undertake the drilling, and hoped to find one in waters offshore Brazil.

Desire - named after HMS Desire, which made the first recorded sighting of the Falklands in 1592 - is aiming to start drilling late this year or early in 2006 after acquiring some promising seismic data.

Peak, a well-construction and performance specialist which operates globally with a staff of more than 70, recently announced plans to expand its workforce.

The company, which will deliver up to 30 wells worldwide this year for operators, including 20 in the North Sea, is forecasting a sustained growth in the demand for its international well project-management services next year.

Peak is looking to recruit up to 15 key personnel. The posts will be based at its offices in Aberdeen, Houston, Perth and Dubai.

The Aberdeen company was named most promising firm recently at the Scottish Offshore Achievement Awards.

Bob Lyons, managing director of Peak Well Management, is leaving for the Falklands today, with Desire's chairman Colin Phipps and Mr Duncan to hold talks with the islands' government on the drilling campaign.

Mr Duncan said the last wells drilled off the Falklands in 1998 were now much better understood thanks to the latest seismic data.

The research and development projects manager of Aberdeen firm READ Well Services will take the stage at an oil conference in Houston, Texas, today to announce a breakthrough technology.

Fraser Louden and his co-authors from Statoil will speak about the development of a new product called the HETS Hydraulically Expanded Internal Casing Patch, which can be run into a live well on coiled tubing and expanded into place using direct hydraulic pressure, thereby giving a permanent steel repair.

Hi all

Thanks markymar hlyeo98.

We had a slight move up from DES today. Open 0.4600p, high 0.4600p, low 0.4450p, close 0.4550p, combined volume 619.0 K. The candle pattern as described on Britishbulls.com is a bullish homing pigeon. (not one I'm familiar with). But we need confirmation of this candle, which will need to close above todays close to confirm its bullishness. The lows of the candles are getting higher. We just need for the close of each session to be higher also. The support seems to be building around this level. Soon we may be seeing the rally we are all waiting for. Lets hope its soon !

Hi Guys,

The appointement of Peak should be seen as excellent news, relieving DES from the minutia of running a drillling campaign, and which judging by past performance in Portugal is a good thing!

The appointement of Peak looks as though the news of rig being commisioned is now not to far away!

It does NOT look to me though, that there will be a big farm-in partner (like Shell) coming on board, as they would have undertaken the drilling management rather than hiring another firm to do it. The window is still open for Talisman (or another new entrant) to share the rig in other acreage.

The fact that DES & Peak are going to the Falklands this week to see the FI government may mean that we will see some interviews in the Falkland press, perhaps even some news to come soon.

eddieshare - 13 Apr 2005 19:59 - 1101 of 6492

Hi all

Thanks markymar Jon B.

Looks like the homeing pigeon,s got lost. The open 0.4550p, high 0.4550p, low o.4425p, close 0.4425p, combined volume 625.0 K. The bears still appear to be dragging DES down. DES is still above the 200 DMA. There is a resistance at about 0.4600p, which seems to be where DES is backing away from. I think DES will go through this resistance rather than drop through the 200 DMA. If you draw a line down from the top doji candle (high of the shadow) to the next high shadow, then continue the line down to todays candle. You will see this resistance just above todays candle. As you can see the resistance & the 200 DMA are close to each other. So it looks like DES will break up or down soon. Lets hope it's up !

tau - 13 Apr 2005 23:55 - 1103 of 6492

Thanks also eddie + markymar for consistant info on this thread. I have not posted since the share issue as DES is held as part of 'long term' portfolio. The 200 day MA is around the issue price, which could be expected, as those who have held in the 50-60p range may have had inclinations to sell plus the dilution effect. Nevertheless, an ample time to add to holding as the upside of this share is still very positive. There has been much talk of an 'overload' of speculative oil co.s in the past 18months, most of which constitute cash-shells, and few of which can be catagorised in the same position as DES. I think it is simply a matter of patience before everything is in position and those who hold will be rewarded. cheers, Tau.
