Although morse is still used quite a lot by Radio Amateurs (who call it CW - Continuous Wave), SSB telephony is much more common on the HF bands and FM telephony on the VHF and UHF bands. Morse is no longer used by maritime or air navigation, but air navigation beacons still transmit their identification in morse as do most amateur radio repeaters. What all this has to do with ..-. -..- escapes me.

MM
In my day I think it was called I.C.W.
Interupted Carrier Wave.

BFO in the Rx to detect the cw.

MightyMicro - 14 Jun 2010 10:54 - 10872 of 11056

Tyketto: which is technically correct - although the mode selector on my transceiver is marked 'CW'. The BFO is supplanted by the carrier re-insertion ability of modern SSB multimode Tcvrs.

Seymour Clearly - 15 Sep 2010 09:38 - 10885 of 11056

Hello you. I'm waiting for cable to start turning up. Thought it might have started yesterday, but not sure just yet. Wonder what Merv might manage :-)

skinny - 15 Sep 2010 09:46 - 10886 of 11056

At least one dinosaur should be quite! :-) Bob Crow warns Mervyn King is not welcome at TUC conference

Seymour Clearly - 15 Sep 2010 12:43 - 10887 of 11056

Well, I went long earlier. So far, so good.
