One of the problems is new blood. The thread was very active when we were trying to get our heads around Fx and Hils was doing all the teaching. There's a treasure trove of information in here further back. Those that have cracked it are continuing to trade it, those who haven't have moved on to other fields. And not posting.

I too think it is a shame this thread has died.

Forex is probably the hottest market amongst spread bet clients. I think the main reason for the appeal is clearly the volatility. Which appeals to new traders, which can be a deadly combination for a lot of them. Maybe the same happened here - which again is a shame.

I don't do tweets either, so I haven't a clue, and soz for not posting much these days.
Only got so many fingers - and still counting ;)

Actually that's an interesting observation, Limpy, FX being the hottest market 'n all that.
P'raps that's why it's gone off the boil a bit for me. It's always on the backburner, but lately commodities keep the gas lit.

Hi all, not sure what I'm doing wrong! opened a CMC demo account 3 weeks ago and managed to blow up 10k, ! a week ago (Mon) put another 10k into my Demo account, now have 34,066 trading FT100, Dow and EUR/USD. I'll try not to give it all back like normal! : )

Now you have to do it for real! :-)

Sounds like your positions are far too big! Sorry if this is grandmother sucking eggs territory, but that sort of increase is too fast ..... unless you're very very good - which I'm not.

Yes my position is at times large, always set a stop and sell limit, often leave 50% of profit on the table!

The real test as Skinny says is using my own brass. Used my own money many times, still down !!

I will concede it wasn't a perfect analogy....


It really is a pet hate of mine. I can remember back in the old days before any of this online trading fandango you just had to get in and get involved and back then the FTSE futures were 25 a point minimum and currency futures were $10 a tick minimum. And that's when you could buy a house for 30 quid.

Now you have really low minimums but I still speak to people who are maybe thinking about starting, maybe soon, just a bit more demo account, and a bit more tweaking of my fibonaccis, and then yes, definitely then, yes I will make a start.

I spoke to a bloke at an exhibition in October I think who talked to me about trading for 20 minutes and then said he had been using a demo account for 18 months. I just walked away.

And breathe.....
