.... perhaps we could get British Gas to sponsor our next meeting...?

DRUNKEN British Gas staff ran amok after a 250,000 Birmingham junket on the same day the energy giant announced a record 35 per cent price jump.
Boozy middle managers and sales staff enjoyed free drinks and slap up four course meals at the bash, organised to discuss how to justify the gas and electricity price hikes....

......But after the expensive event festivities were reported to have descended into mayhem when drunken brawls broke out at nearby hotels laid on for British Gas staff.

That is something we would have to look through. -):

Hey up! Big brother is watching.....!

So, Fred. By what means did you short Microfocus. And was the size better than that obtainable by trading the underlying???.

British Gas? I've just shut the boiler down.............

survived87 - 02 Aug 2008 18:04 - 1105 of 1427

just a thought ...... presumably the 'cost savings' they (British Gas) made on closing down their Solihull office/call centre a few years ago helped pay for the (mis)management junket....

Fred1new - 03 Aug 2008 19:47 - 1106 of 1427

5501, You can go short or long on CMS share bets at 268.55= 270.20.

But there was a sell note on it recently. I think in the IC. Which at the moment means BA.

Tell you about my trades later.

Fred1new - 04 Aug 2008 09:36 - 1107 of 1427

Thanks Stan. Got you second E-mail.

For a man who isn't working and achieving even less I am surprised how busy and confused I am about time and place. (My wife has added the rest of life too.)

Right how is this!

.... but could they have thought of a 'better' name than Black Dog Freddy !

PS: An 11 billion high speed rail link between Birmingham and London could use new platforms built deep underneath New Street Station.

... but ....
returning to financial market matters:

Staffordshire trainee accountant gambles away 44m of council money on stockmarket (and this was from a time when markets were 'stable'):

Stan - 06 Aug 2008 06:37 - 1112 of 1427

"CIPFA has acknowledged that the low risk transactions authorised by Mr Pate were carried out at a time when the market was stable and that there was no risk to the councils capital sums."

..Didn't here about that on the National News did we, I suppose because of the above, big news though I would have thought.

I hope those attending tomorrow will bring some coinage to put in my hat. Preferably gold. I need something to feed my kids with.

survived87 - 07 Aug 2008 01:07 - 1114 of 1427

Fred.... will these do...?.... (well, they're gold and you can eat 'em):

This seems to have been the 'event' this evening:

A major railway station was evacuated after reports of a fire in a train.
Smoke was seen coming from a train at about 1840 BST at Birmingham New Street station, British Transport Police said.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_midlands/7548207.stm

PS: Well, I did tell you earlier that whenever I'm near a railway station something seems to happen that delays trains!!

survived87 - 07 Aug 2008 21:19 - 1117 of 1427

.... and now the bad news....:

A brewery chain employing 1,000 people in north-west England has gone into administration.

Cains Brewery, based in Liverpool, makes a range of 11 ales and lagers and runs more than 100 pubs nationwide.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/merseyside/7547909.stm

Cains has won a number of awards for its ales, most recently the World's Best Fruit Beer in the World Beer Awards 2007.

Its beer is also the official beer of the 2008 Liverpool European Capital of Culture.
