As I'm sure you are aware, we and many of you have had a long and tiresome battle with Java when trying to use our streaming services. We have therefore been working on a solution to remove this problem.
We are pleased to announce that we have a new stockwatch available for use which no longer uses Java. We are currently making this available as a technical beta version, which means we are interested in your feedback regarding performance, bugs and browser/operating system/device compatibility issues (note: design and styling will be addressed in later beta releases).
For the purpose of allowing the old and new stockwatch versions to run concurrently, the technical functionality of the new stockwatch mimics the old one for now (not style, fonts or look). Editing and managing watchlists uses the same process as the current java stockwatch but is now at the top of the page. This will allow you to switch between the versions should you have any problems. All technical features of the current stockwatch are available in the new version
except for the ability to drag resize columns. In the near future and as we migrate away from the java version of stockwatch, we will add new usability features as well as design it up to make the whole stockwatch experience smoother than it has ever been.
As this new version does not require java, you should expect it to work on your android devices and ipad/iphones. For now the display has not been optimised for smaller screens, but this will come in future development.
NOTE: Due to javascript performance in Internet Explorer 8, this new stockwatch can cause high CPU load. We recommend you use a current version of a modern browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox for best results.
The new version can be found on the following link:
http://www.moneyam.com/stockwatch/beta.php
NOTE: Non java versions of streaming trades, streaming news and level 2 will be released over the coming weeks.
Please do not worry about design/style at the moment as this version has not been styled it is purely a technical beta test environment it will be styled before it is released. We have put this here purely for feedback on its technical functionality i.e does it work in your browser and on your PC/Laptop/Tablet/Mobile
Please post your technical feedback in this discussion thread
Thank you for your feedback and we hope you enjoy it

Greystone - that's what I thought. You know that you can select, copy and paste from the new stockwatch and will get the the values at that time, but we can add a pause feature to stop the streaming if you want to make sure it's not ticking.

Do you have a non-Java version of the trades screen?

jimmy,
the new version will align to the left not the centre - I presume that is what you mean by not in line?
with regard to it not fitting on your screen, you cannot current resize the columns and this may be pushing things out for you compared to the java one. for example if you have the full names of the shares as a column, that will at this point be particularly large as it cannot be resized.

Ian, Trades Screen opens from IE9 and is populated, but remains empty in Chrome.

Yes with the old version i can see the whole page ,with this i can only see up to the column Trd/High ,unless i move the bar at the bottom .
If so how do you take the full names out of the column ??

jimmy,
just click on the edit this watch list button to the top left and you can take out any columns you want from there.
sdunwell, is taht the same when you are using the current stockwatch as the new one trades is still a java page and as such chrome may not like the applet

Ian, I normally use Chrome and Trades always works, it's only when I select Trades from the HTML-5 version of Stockwatch that no data appears in the Trades screen.

Ok got it now Ian thanks .
It's a shame the name boxes are not a little smaller as then you wouldn't have to eliminate them.

jimmy, you can reorder the columns and move name to the far right.

Can it be replicated exactly as the old Stockwatch without the lined boxes? The new set-up makes it difficult on the eye. The old stockwatch was very easy on the eye with price and trade changes more easily visible

Yes i can see that now it's just that they are now bigger with this new format as it is on other sites that use this , i suppose i'm a bit of a stick in the mud George i like familiar things :))

can you do anything with font too, maybe embolden it, the old version easier to read.
That said am liking the fact it doesn't keep disappearing [i am on the free version] or will that change when fully rolled out?

Ian and George,
Using on an Apple Mac, Safari 5.1:
Clicking on from the Beta link above and it's working very well, quick and with all functions working except for the ones mentioned in Ian's opening post, Having said that my News button does appear to be working as well as a bonus. So very pleased thank you.
As far as the boxes viewed across stockwatch, mine stops at Cum. Vol before I have to scroll across further for the rest, but that might be me as I increased my font size a while back and can't remember if it was like that in Java any way.
Type colour (for Company Names) was a bit easier on the eye in Java but not a great problem for me now and can probably be tweaked in the future.
So once again thanks all for the new one.
Ed: Just seen your post Ian.
