Biofuels Corporation. (BFC)

wilbs - 07 Jul 2004 19:47

The main activity of Biofuels is the large scale production and exploitation of biodiesel and glycerine following the construction and commissioning of the initial plant.

Biodiesel is produced from vegetable oils and, as an environmentally friendly product, can make a significant contribution towards reducing green house gases and meeting Kyoto targets.

hey, cynic no offence.

beanflicker - 18 Apr 2007 13:38 - 1112 of 1184

What's the latest? Is it all quiet until end of May when BFC announce D4E or extra funding?

cynic - 27 Apr 2007 13:17 - 1113 of 1184

bean* .... can't work out how to send you a message through the system here ..... obvious very thick! ..... anyway, in answer to your e-, not incidentally that i really do know what i am talking about, but merely a purveyor of occasional common sense ......

i am no longer short of BFC, not because i think the company will survive, but because i do not understand why Barclays Investements (or whatever they are called) have been increasing their stake ..... seems totally nuts to me, as my brain says D4E is inevitable and must decimate shareholders' interests.

you may find this share difficult to short ..... i tried to when sp was a bit higher, but clearly there were no holders (then) who were prepared to lend the necessary stock ..... also, depending on how you deal, your broker may not offer a shorting facility .... that said, assuming it is available, you could take out a put option which has a similar effect .... ask your broker

cynic - 30 Apr 2007 08:49 - 1114 of 1184

share now slumping (down nearly 10% this morning), so can anyone explain why Barclays should have wanted to increase its holding so recently and so substantially?

hangon - 30 Apr 2007 11:02 - 1115 of 1184

cynic I know less that you, but could Barclay want to increase their "say" at the negotiating table? - possily so they don't come out with egg-on . . . OR, so the d4e is more favourable to them. Presumably any other Interested Party will have paid a lot more for their shares, but it's "number" that count, not what u paid.
+It is possible Barclay is Bonkers, but I suspect not. Do you know which institution has the greatest share holding? Morgan Stan held 13% and USB nearly 7% (July 2006) - in May 2006 BFC raised nearly 8m at 1.80 - ouch! if that was private cash - but Banks use "our" money don't they?
YET - Doesn't this business still have "value"? - it was destined to be a scorcher not long ago - that is until some politician realised it wouldn't serve their own narrow interest . . . . oh dear.
Yet I read that Palm-Oil production (as a bio-fuel) is ruining the far east - the susidy is encouraging wholesale destruction of rain-forest (yes the same rain forest that absorbs CO2), because it is highly profitable. When will politicians stop interfering?

(Incidently I subscribe to the view that Global Warming is due to the Sun's influence and that pollution should be stopped because it is wrong and we cannot know the long-tern effects, similarly I suspect we should stop destruction of land-masses even if we have to pay locals).
To stop the fuel madness, let everyone have the right to four long-haul flights/year and ten short-haul.....the numbers can be carried-over for ten years.....then reduce the number pa by 10% every other year. In time we will be able to manage on just one flight pa, or we can trade the "ration" for whatever it is valued at....It seems bonkers to me, burning fuel getting to the airport, burning fuel going on holiday and then coming back having been bitten by bugs, suffered food poisoning and late-life skin cancer - when you can have a more-relaxed break on the beach at Cleethorpes, or Bognor (etc). What's the point in encouraging people to save energy with funny light-bulbs if they burn 20,000miles worth, flying to Morocco?

I don't hold this stock - wow-ee!

cynic - 30 Apr 2007 11:11 - 1116 of 1184

BFC produces bio diesel by recycling veg oil (i think) and thus not from either new palm oil nor jatophra.

Does the biz have any value? ..... well DOO had a look at Christmas 2006 (or was it 2005?) and walked away very quickly ...... any value will be realisable at fire-sale price when the receiver moves in or if D4E goes through.

personally, i thought Barclays Investements (or whatever) were either nuts or knew something significant which no one else did ..... imo, the former applies! ...... i was originally short of these at about 28p but closed out my profit a couple of months back .... tried to re-do a few weeks ago, but no lenders of stock

robinhood - 30 Apr 2007 11:23 - 1117 of 1184

hangon- hear what you say, but after yet again a cold rainy day in cleethorpes/bognor you will have to get tumbledryer out to dry your clothes and need to crank up the central heating to get warm again.....(heard once that cows/pigs are either methane farthers or hydrogen farthers....also heard that if there is a way to collect all the methane produced by those animals then crude oil demand globally can be halved- now throw into the equasion that Stanelco can produce biodegradable bags for that task then everybody happy again. Mind you if Stanelco can RF seal those bags then at last we will see "pigs can fly"

cynic - 29 May 2007 08:08 - 1118 of 1184

so then ...... sp/market has finally reawoken to the dire straits facing this company ..... i am still utterly puzzled as to why sp stayed so relatively strong and stable for the whole of May.

ptholden - 29 May 2007 08:22 - 1119 of 1184

Someone selling blocks of 50,000 through the book, tried to join them but the stock is 'unborrowable'.

cynic - 29 May 2007 08:26 - 1120 of 1184

tried to do that when they were up at 18 about a month ago!
are you short of anything else PT?

ptholden - 29 May 2007 08:30 - 1121 of 1184

Nope Cynic, mainly FX at the moment. Keeping a close eye on SOLA though ;)

cynic - 29 May 2007 08:31 - 1122 of 1184

snap .... have no position there at all at the moment

Big Al - 29 May 2007 09:00 - 1123 of 1184

You guys need a DMA CFd account by the sound of it. ;-)))

cynic - 29 May 2007 09:20 - 1124 of 1184

i do, but you still need someone who is prepared to lend stock

ptholden - 29 May 2007 09:33 - 1125 of 1184

Al

Same as Cynic, 'unborrowable' through IG CFDs. Should have got in a lot earlier :(

cynic - 29 May 2007 09:35 - 1126 of 1184

PT .... you would have had to take a position about 6 weeks ago ..... confess i chickened out eventually and did not maximise my profit

Big Al - 29 May 2007 09:36 - 1127 of 1184

Not so cynic. With DMA you stick it in the order book or simply take out however many you need to sell on the buy side.

I use GNI

cynic - 29 May 2007 09:40 - 1128 of 1184

enlighten me ..... what is DMA other than daily moving average? ...... have you tried and succeeded with BFC?

ptholden - 29 May 2007 09:47 - 1129 of 1184

Al

Tried exactly just that this morning through the order book - no joy. Seems GNI have access to BFC stock whereas IG do not.

DMA = Direct Market Access (through the order book)

Big Al - 29 May 2007 09:47 - 1130 of 1184

Direct Market Access. You stick your own orders through the book. BFC is an AMSM stock which, like SETSmm, allows you to be your own MM. You buy on the bid and sell on the offer sides.

I'd suggest you check it out. ;-))
