Galleon Holdings (GON)

banjomick - 15 Jun 2004 08:48

INTELLIGENT INVESTING WITH BANJO,well sort of! (Ed-hmmmm-lol)

Galleon Holdings plc has three key divisions:Galleon Entertainment for entertainment type IP,Croco Worldwide for product IP,Phoenix for interactive TV services for broadcasters in China/South East Asia which includes Robot Information Technology (Lushy Assets ('Yunbo')) who are a wireless interactive platform service provider in China who will work alongside Phoenix to enable GON to hold on to a greater part of the generated revenue and so increase the profit margin......think that's the plan! :-)

This makes Galleon Holdings a 'One Stop Shop' to develop and complete new and existing IP's.

26th June 2008 Galleon – And Its 'Edgy' Strategy by Tom Bulford

banjomick - 27 Jun 2008 00:04 - 1155 of 1609

Good evening one and all,if you remember last time I called I gave the following prophesy- "The Owls have been seen heading to the East, for they are wise!".

Since then the Owls have returned some scared but whispered to me (along with the old Oak trees of course) these two words 'Martia Larts',the Owls are never wrong!

banjomick - 27 Jun 2008 23:40 - 1158 of 1609

From todays interims:

Highlights:

Maiden Profit before tax of 355,000 compared to loss of 357,000 for same period last year

Turnover increased by 146% to 5.8million (H1 2007: 2.4 million)

Positive EBITDA of 480,000 compared to a loss of 148,000 for the same period last year

Acquisition of Lushy Assets ('Yunbo'), a mobile service provider in China, adding to Phoenix our existing Chinese operation and consolidating our China media strategy

Launch of first show, Super Soccer Star, in China, co-produced with Guangdong Sports Channel and Chelsea Football Club

Commenting on the first half results, David Wong, Chairman, Galleon Holdings plc, said:

'The first six months of this financial year have been very solid as the Group moves into a profitable phase of growth. This is a huge achievement by the management which has generated a profit in a period when they acquired and then integrated Phoenix and Yunbo in China and South East Asia.

'It is evident that we are steadily executing our business model in the emerging markets, particularly in China. Each of our divisions has continued to gain momentum and this will continue into the second half of the year. We are excited by the opportunities that we see ahead of us.'

banjomick - 27 Jun 2008 23:46 - 1159 of 1609

Chairman's Statement

I am delighted to see the Group generate a profit for the first six months of the year with revenues coming from both the entertainment and the product division. In accordance with the requirements of the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange the Group is required to prepare this interim financial information under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

We have been consistent with our strategy for the entertainment division, focusing on multiplatform entertainment and interactive revenue streams in emerging markets such as China and South East Asia. We acquired Yunbo, a mobile service provider in China, in February 2008, for an initial consideration of US$3 million. This has bolstered our ability to provide Chinese broadcasters a complete media solution for multiplatform entertainment, giving us total control over the interactive content, its delivery to the consumer, data capture and the billing process. We have continued to grow our footprint in the region supplying interactive entertainment solutions to several broadcasters in China and Malaysia. Interactive entertainment revenues for this period was 1.1m compared to nil for the same period last year.

banjomick - 27 Jun 2008 23:59 - 1160 of 1609

Entertainment

"Our first multiplatform entertainment property Super Soccer Star, an interactive family orientated football talent show, was launched in April with co-producers Guangdong Sports Channel and Chelsea Football Club. The show has been a huge success and is one of the broadcaster's top 5 rated shows. This has led to the show being syndicated by the Shanghai Sports Channel, which will take it to another 11 million viewers. We are in discussions with other national satellite broadcasters for a second series in China. We are also in final negotiations for a series in Malaysia and there are discussions underway in Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia."

Now this is what I've been waiting for:

"Our second show, The Limit, is set to air later in the year on Hunan Satellite, a leading broadcaster with a reach of 400 million homes. Our network and operational expertise has allowed us to develop relationships with other media companies looking to gain traction in China. During this period we agreed a deal with RDF Media to co-produce a select number of their properties and represent its shows in the region."

This proves to me that GON have expertly placed themselves as a conduit to enable other ventures from both GON's own stable and others, most notably RDF Media to enable entry into this very difficult to get into and rewarding region!

banjomick - 28 Jun 2008 00:24 - 1161 of 1609

Moving on to another arm of GON,the Skunk Fu DVD is on sale next week in UK,France and Australia:

banjomick - 28 Jun 2008 00:26 - 1162 of 1609

On it's own not a great revenue generator but highlights the IP and Croco will benifit too!

banjomick - 29 Jun 2008 23:29 - 1163 of 1609

I'll be getting mine tomorrow,will you? :-)

banjomick - 01 Jul 2008 13:28 - 1164 of 1609

What is great about GON is the fact that the bulk of their revenue is/will be from growth areas such as South America (Croco) and China/SEA (Phoenix and Croco).
In my opinion we will soon be seeing a rush of announcements and updates similar to last year and relating to China/SEA.

The 8million placing at 29p last October was mainly for the building up of the China/SEA side which after a relatively short time is starting to bear fruit as can be seen in last weeks interims.
Very exciting company to hold shares in with revenue streams from all directions! All good fun.

No business like show business
Ting Shi
June 03,2008

Over the years, Hunan's most famous products have been a long list of influential politicians from Mao Zedong to feisty former premier Zhu Rongji.

In the past decade, the hinterland province has turned itself into the mainland's most formidable entertainment powerhouse.

Today, Hunan Satellite TV is arguably the most successful television station in China. Its talk shows, dating games and riotous variety programmes have lured nation-wide audiences in their millions. Its Saturday evening, prime-time advertising rates are now the highest in China, surpassing even the main national network, CCTV-1.

"It's bold, always breaking the mould and setting industry standards. Stations across China are scrambling to follow suit," said Beijing-based media critic He Yong.

In the 10 years since it first started broadcasting nationally by satellite, Hunan Satellite has gone about as far as the media can go in China.

The formula for success is simple: create offbeat and even risque entertainment in a country still largely dominated by bland and predictable state-run TV shows.

The channel's long-running game show, Fun Cam, whose sassy hosts joke around, is one of the most popular shows on Chinese television. And another hit, Bravo! March Along, features people performing stunts such as jumping from high places or removing the caps off beer bottles with their teeth.

But nothing has succeeded like Super-girl a talent show modelled on American Idol. It was such a huge hit in 2005 that more than 400 million viewers tuned in, making it one of the most watched shows in national television history.

The critics say the shows are just a rip off of popular US and British shows; the Hunan Satellite people call it "re-inventing" assimilating trendy international content into local culture.

Wei Wenbin, chief of the Hunan Broadcasting and Television Bureau, once famously said: "Don't laugh at such practices. Some of us eat bread with chilli sauce. Localising a foreign show takes a lot of skills. Whoever can successfully combine east and west, old tradition and modern needs, will come out a winner."

Just posting my posts from the 'Dark Side'

"Croco Worldwide

Croco Worldwide is our global toy division, focusing on designing and manufacturing innovative bespoke in-pack premiums for the global FMCG companies. The division continues to grow in terms of volume, value and also geographical reach. Our relationship with Pepsico is expanding well beyond Europe and our presence in Latin America has been bolstered by the successful test of our product IP Blasterz in a promotion in Mexico.

Our focus for the remaining months will be to secure regular business from this region and to expand our sales and distribution into Asia. Greater visibility of business and stronger relationships allows us to be more strategic about our investment in product IP and also manufacturing technology, all of which provide significant barriers to entry for any competitors."

With the main part being:

'and to expand our sales and distribution into Asia'

I know Wikipedia gets slagged off left right and centre but my own experiance of the site has been both good and accurate, anyway:

"Asia is the world's largest and most populous continent. It covers 8.6% of the Earth's total surface area (or 29.4% of its land area) and, with over 4 billion people, it contains more than 60% of the world's current human population."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asia

Also from the Final Results in January 2008:

"This coupled with our new presence in Asia presents Croco with a
much larger global distribution footprint for its new and existing products and
IP for 2008."

When GON talk about Croco they class the 'new' area as Asia and not China/SEA (south east asia)as they do with the entertainment side,I maybe reading too much into it but it's of interest,to me anyway.

banjomick - 04 Jul 2008 00:19 - 1169 of 1609

If we then concentrate on the latter part of the sentence ie 'significant barriers to entry for any competitors' :

"Greater visibility of business and stronger relationships allows us to be more strategic about our investment in product IP and also manufacturing technology, all of which provide significant barriers to entry for any competitors."

link 'significant barriers to entry for any competitors' with '4 billion people',hmmmmmm interesting and wow but obviously it's not as cut and dry as that but does show the potential that is there. This is of course on top of the entertainment division:

Current Trading & Outlook (from recent Interims)

The first six months of this financial year have been very solid as the Group moves into a profitable phase of growth. This is a huge achievement by the management which has generated a profit in a period when they acquired and then integrated Phoenix and Yunbo in China and South East Asia. We are fortunate to have excellent dedicated employees and managers locally in each of the markets where we operate which allows us to act efficiently, responsively and timely to our partners in this period of quantum growth.

It is evident that we are steadily executing our business model in the emerging markets, particularly in China. Each of our divisions has continued to gain momentum and this will continue into the second half of the year. We are excited by the opportunities that we see ahead of us.

banjomick - 04 Jul 2008 00:20 - 1170 of 1609

Haven't even really touched on the entertainment division but it's all in the final resuls and recent interims and reads as good if not better than Croco for the future!

So,this then begs the question why is the SP at the 21p level and not at least the 29p level which was the value set for last Octobers placing for 8million?

I could be here all night discussing with meself that one! :-)

Firstly,I think you have to see the 29p as a base line that the major investors who bought in were happy to pay as an investment for the future.

Anything above that afterwards regarding the SP is obviously pure speculation which for the short/medium term never materialised which when you look back makes for common sense as there were no figures to back anything higher or indeed as it turns out lower as we see today, this is the market for you.

I'm not complaining,far from it!

Right, will cut this short in that GON are showing to me that the 29p asked for in the placing was justified as can be seen in the last two results. If you cut away the excitement within jl's posts then he is right in my opinion, one announcement regarding a big TV program within China will return interest in this share and from what I can tell this is not far away!

Obviously in these times any company can have problems as seen in the markets over the last few months and more so recently but GON are in a some what protected area in both sector and region so in my opinion barring unforeseen events the SP will head back up to 29p and beyond, just my opinion, dyor ect ect ect.

banjomick - 05 Jul 2008 22:41 - 1171 of 1609

If we go back (ED-how far back are you going?)........way back!

Not that far back, just to June 2007 and the Hardman and Co. monthly report for that month, worth another read:

GALLEON

Interim results just announced show Galleon is making good progress.
Turnover has increased from just 743k to 2.4m, and operating losses have been
nearly halved.

It's not the numbers that are important though, but the progress the company has
made with its business.

Croco, the in-pack premiums business, has gone from strength to strength,
contributing the majority ofthe company's turnover.

Meanwhile Galleon Entertainment has made progress in developing its IP
portfolio; animation Skunk Fu! is now being aired in Australia, and the second
half of the year will see music and animation product Apollo's Pad go live, and
Sokator-442 going into production.

We have also seen today the announcement of a major new contract from PepsiCo
for a new in-pack premium product from Croco. This gives Croco a third product
next to the highly successful Blasterz (which has generated over 3m sales)
and recently launched EPIX.

http://www.hardmanandco.com/Research/monthly/June07_monthly.pdf

What interests me most apart from revenue increasing by 146% to 5.8million along with GON showing a 'Maiden Profit' compared to this time last year is:

'Sokator-442 going into production' as in a year ago!

The Final results for 2006 announced January 2007 stated:

"We have also made significant progress
with our other development property 'Sokator-442'. With key partners aligned in multiple territories, this is poised to move into production during 2007."

The 2007 interims stated:

'Sokator-442', the kid-targeted soccer meets sci-fi multi-platform property,
has received presale offers from two territories and is poised to go into
production later in 2007.'

The Final results for 2007 announced January 2008 stated:

'Sokator-442, Galleon's football based fantasy targeting kids aged 6-11 is also
at an interesting stage. Such is the revenue potential of this property that
with current presales already made to Germany and Australia this property would
become commercially viable with one more partner in a significant territory such
as China, the UK or the US'

The 2008 interims stated:

'We have pre-sale offers in Germany, Australia and Scandinavia and are focusing on bringing in one more key territory to give the property the critical mass that it needs.'

So,I conclude (Ed-at last!) from the wording and the strengthening position GON have in China/SEA that China will be the fourth signature.I also believe that Sokator-442 is completed as in the first series and GON are just waiting for the right time to announce the news, just my opinion so dyor

Also,I do like going back to this:

http://www.indiantelevision.com/headlines/y2k7/sep/sep384.php

banjomick - 06 Jul 2008 16:25 - 1173 of 1609

Apollo's Pad has been off-line since 10 this morning, website may be being updated or server problems/checks.So while I wait, from the recent interims:

"Apollo's Pad, an interactive online animated sitcom, was launched in October 2007,
targeting 16-24 year olds. We have developed strong relationships with the music majors which have widened to include EMI publishing as well as Sony BMG."

banjomick - 06 Jul 2008 16:39 - 1174 of 1609

Interesting that the last major change to Apollo's Pad was on Monday the 2nd June after being off-line the day before!
