Oh, and how many have you had tonight??

STORMCALLER - 18 Aug 2004 23:12 - 11775 of 23498

Goodnight GD.

optomistic - 18 Aug 2004 23:16 - 11776 of 23498

Over 500 flights Stormy, long time solo. Aerobatics limited to the G forces allowed on glider type. Club gliders 3 1/2g tollerance so OK for basic maneauvers but nothing too extreme.

STORMCALLER - 18 Aug 2004 23:22 - 11778 of 23498

opto,
Sorry didn't realise your experience, that sounds like a rude question now oops.
Funny things aerobatic approvals, used to work with a guy, don't laugh, built a single engined plane in his garden. Odd part of the whole affair is that the plane is cleared for aerobatics in the states, where it comes from, but not in UK.

STORMCALLER - 18 Aug 2004 23:24 - 11779 of 23498

Truth to tell I had the opportunity of a flight, he is always looking for an excuse, and help with fuel bill, haven't mustered the nerve so far.
Which is a bit silly because he is a fully qualified commercial pilot!

optomistic - 18 Aug 2004 23:30 - 11780 of 23498

They seem to be allowed to fly almost anything over there. Saw prog on TV showing home builds, I think they were very brave to fly some of them, but others they were superb machines.
Just one more pint of the black stuff please then away to bed.

STORMCALLER - 18 Aug 2004 23:33 - 11781 of 23498

Allow me, I'm sure it's my turn. Have you ever considered trying the powered variety, I know it's very different, and more expensive?

snoball - 18 Aug 2004 23:38 - 11782 of 23498

GD, at least they are repairing it before taking you up!
I envy you going on the flight though.

optomistic - 18 Aug 2004 23:39 - 11783 of 23498

Yes Stormy it is much more expensive, beyond my means, although we have a motor glider in the club which is not too bad if you can get a shared cost flight, I am not qualied to fly that solo as it requires another licence for that type (again too expensive)

optomistic - 18 Aug 2004 23:41 - 11784 of 23498

Poochies gone Snoball, Have you succeeded with the porch yet?

STORMCALLER - 18 Aug 2004 23:41 - 11785 of 23498

Evening snoball,
I may be naive, but isn't it difficult to do repairs after you take off...?!?
Er I seem to stuck behind this bar can I get you something?

snoball - 18 Aug 2004 23:44 - 11786 of 23498

Alright, SC, a large Jim Beam and american just before retiring will do nicely thanks.
Opto - i'm not even going to try. Let it rain!

STORMCALLER - 18 Aug 2004 23:46 - 11787 of 23498

opto,
The reason I asked was that I have only met, briefly, one glider fan, and he poured scorn on powered planes, resented the fact that he couldn't get airborne without, winch notwithstanding, and he was almost poetic about the serenity and detachment, once unhitched, that he found in free flight,

STORMCALLER - 18 Aug 2004 23:47 - 11788 of 23498

snoball,
Thought I could tempt you, here it comes, ice included as it's warm.

optomistic - 18 Aug 2004 23:48 - 11789 of 23498

Have a word with Stormy about the rain, he's been very busy lately but may be able to help you out with one of his test pieces :-)

STORMCALLER - 18 Aug 2004 23:51 - 11790 of 23498

opto,
Been busy on my own manor tonight, the neighbours were complaining that I have been neglecting them.....not any more.

optomistic - 18 Aug 2004 23:52 - 11791 of 23498

Stormy nothing against power flying but gliding certainly has its attractions, and addditional challenges over power.

snoball - 18 Aug 2004 23:52 - 11792 of 23498

Cheers!

I can understand your glider friends enthusiasm, SC.
I've been up in a glider once, well twice. The tow rope broke on take off the first time. But the second time, a few minutes later, flying without any aural means of support was very enjoyable.

STORMCALLER - 18 Aug 2004 23:55 - 11793 of 23498

opto,
Don't take this wrong, but I believe gliders take possibly greater skill, and definitely judgement, I am a little envious, but not a good flyer unfortunately.
