Stormy nothing against power flying but gliding certainly has its attractions, and addditional challenges over power.

I can understand your glider friends enthusiasm, SC.
I've been up in a glider once, well twice. The tow rope broke on take off the first time. But the second time, a few minutes later, flying without any aural means of support was very enjoyable.

Don't take this wrong, but I believe gliders take possibly greater skill, and definitely judgement, I am a little envious, but not a good flyer unfortunately.

Too expensive to complete them all what with family etc.

Stormy a large part of it is judgement, you can't power up and go round again in gliders, unfortunately air motion sickness can happen even without engines!!
but the body does accustom itself to this (in most cases) I have never had a problem fortunately
