Hopefully be better than 2008. Note well - "hopefully".
Seeing all the "for sale" posters up in early December was like being in a time warp. Never seen so much pre-Christmas discounting. Many retail managers, when asked, were unable to respond to the question - "so what will you do come January?"
Looks like being a year or three of good old fashioned cost management. Wetherspoons are doing £1 a pint and cheap grub! If they can still turn a profit on that then fine and dandy.
A really hard recession will act like a purge on this once green and pleasant land. It will be uncomfortable, maybe unpleasant and could become ugly. What is left of the nation should emerge - one day - stronger for it. If not........
Happy New Year all.

Jam on it, Stan. Jam on it!
Cost control used to be a way of life - I just feel the skill is going to come in handy again, (and probably won't be for the last time).
Yes capitalism indeed, and so much for the "end of boom and bust".
I don't know about Fred's 10,000 mile warranty, but he may like to contemplate the outlook for an old friend of mine who has been diagnosed with "Lupars". (Forgive the spelling if wrong but it is phonetically correct). Interestingly, she says there are very few experts in that particular field. She is having to go from deepest Surrey to north London to get her next operation done. The outlook is not particularly wonderful for her.
