Level 2 and Stockwatch outage (04/08/08)

IanT(MoneyAM) - 04 Aug 2008 14:15

All,

As you will bee aware for the last 2 hours we have been experiencing a problem which has meant that our level 2 and level 1 streamers are not available.

We are working to resolve this issue and I can only apologise at this point in time, and as soon as we know more, we will of course update you.

Regards

Ian

Oddie,

Comstock had a need to switch ticker plants yesterday, however something went wrong in the transition and we ended up with what appears to be feeds from both plants (hence the double trades etc). The increased load on the database server then seemed to trigger a condition in our code caused by loops being too tight (usleep(10)) and another condition whereby the streaming servers were announcing themselves as ready to serve when they really weren't.

When the streaming servers announce they're ready, they get connections sent to them, however as they weren't really ready, they'd then just sit there hanging.

Last night we did a complete restart of the feed side of things, including the database hardware involved, and that got everything back into a known state and we started serving again.

Our developers are working on two things now. 1, loosen the loops; 2, stop the streaming servers announcing they're ready before they are.

Please let us know if you continue to have problems today.

Jonathan.

Jonathan,

Thanks. Turned system off twice but Streaming Stockwatch Live prices still not working at at 07.55...!

Can you tell us when you expect normal service to be resumed..???

Oddie

IanT(MoneyAM) - 05 Aug 2008 07:59 - 14 of 32

Oddie,

Normal service is now available - could you do the following please?

1. Log out and go to the home page.
2. in the login box, click on the clear moneyam cookies link
3. now re enter your username and password and log back in
4. if this does not work, please close down all your borwser and then re open and try again

If that does not work, can you try this?

Could you try and clear your temporary Java applet files please?

1. Close all of your browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox etc)
2. Go to Control Panel
3. Click Java->Settings (in Temporary Internet Files section)->Delete Files->OK
4. Go back to stockwatch and try again

If that does not work, let me know exactly what you see when you try to access stockwatch please?

Percentage rises and falls on l2 sreen do not match stockwatch.
This is so confusing are you aware? can you fix it?

martin036 - 05 Aug 2008 08:03 - 16 of 32

eg TW. L2 showing correct price of 45p but up +4.5p 11% - stockwatch 45p -0.75p - 1.64%

IanT(MoneyAM) - 05 Aug 2008 08:03 - 17 of 32

hawick - 05 Aug 2008 08:04 - 18 of 32

Now working for me, thanks, hope others are successful.

martin036 - 05 Aug 2008 08:07 - 19 of 32

Seems like L2 are basing the current price over an increase/decrease on yesterdays opening price.

oddie - 05 Aug 2008 08:30 - 20 of 32

Ian,

All working ok now. Thanks.

Oddie

I would be happy to have stockwatch running.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 05 Aug 2008 10:22 - 25 of 32

Fred,

It is up and running can you tell me what problems youar ehaving?

Ian

Fred1new - 05 Aug 2008 11:09 - 26 of 32

Ian.

Right here we go.

I have had problems with loading pages on Moneyam for the last few weeks.

Often having to leave the site and returning.

The slowness applies to the Traders and Investors Rooms as well as stock watch and Trades pages.

I have used both Fire fox and IE both of which are up to date and I have the current Java running on my machines.

Today until about 5mins ago could not load the Watch list, but when I last tried was successful.

However, Trade for Tanfield was confusing as total buys and sells up to about 10am and then a series of unknown trades cock the Total B/S. Odd.

The other problem, which has occurred over the last few weeks is refreshing of pages, seems to take longer than my expected life expectancy..

I have not problem with other sites ie. CMC and Sharescope plus (The latter is a large program), but speeds of refreshing pages for them seems OK.

Also I find that I am jumping occasionally to the wrong page, not popups.

The other problem is Ruth 8-), but I am content not to have this problem dealt with.

I thought my problems was due to spy ware etc, but have cleaned up my registry and chuck cookies, scan disc etc. over the weekend. This possibly slightly improved speed of other programs.

Another problem is having to repeatedly relog in.

Cheers, have a better day.

Fred

I have just logged in again and although I hit the traders room field, the indicies page came up. This has happened on numerous occasions. I don't think it clumsy fingers, although I am clumsy!

IanT(MoneyAM) - 05 Aug 2008 11:17 - 27 of 32

Fred,

can you tell me what internet security you have on the machine, as yes we did have problems yesterday, but today the site should be operating at normal speed.

It is strange that it is happening on both IE and Firefox, which is why I am leaning towards the internet security, but obviously just hypothesising.

It could be that you have some sort of ad blocking which is causing slowness of loading, again just a guess on my part. Login - does this happen in both IE and Firefox or just one of them?

Ian

Fred1new - 05 Aug 2008 11:51 - 28 of 32

Ian,

Just had the problem with clicking Traders room and noticing the Indicies page information was shown, but actually went to Traders page. Odd.

I use AVIRA Premium and did have problems initially when I loaded the new update some weeks ago. But all seems to have settled down again after cleaning up.

I had turned on my popup blocker on, but changed this setting now to allow from them from Moneyam. ( They are a nuisance, but understand why you have them.)

Also, my internet security is set at medium, but I block Activex, unless I give permission.

Firefox is more stable for me on the Moneyam site than IE. but cant recall which was giving the most problems as far as loading. I will try to observe.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 05 Aug 2008 11:52 - 29 of 32

Fred,

If you could cross compare and let me know that would be great - I will do a little research on your internet security - as I say it may not be that it is the issue, but worth checking.

Ian

Fred1new - 05 Aug 2008 11:57 - 30 of 32

Ian,

Have a cup of coffee instead.

I have just reloaded IE and the page reloading speed is back to its old self.

I don't make a cup of tea while it is loading any longer.

I hope it continues, but will let you know when I compare with Firefox.

Thanks.
