Referendum : to be in Europe or not to be ?, that is the question ! (REF)

required field - 03 Feb 2016 10:00

Thought I'd start a new thread as this is going to be a major talking point this year...have not made up my mind yet...(unlike bucksfizz)....but thinking of voting for an exit as Europe is not doing Britain any good at all it seems....

Dil - 04 Feb 2019 23:05 - 12223 of 12628

Get over it we're leaving and that Nissan decision is sod all to do with Brexit.

Stan - 04 Feb 2019 23:18 - 12224 of 12628

Dil - 04 Feb 2019 23:21 - 12225 of 12628

:-)

Stan - 04 Feb 2019 23:26 - 12226 of 12628

Thank you and goodnight 😎

In particular a closely watched gauge of the world’s fifth-biggest economy, the IHS Markit/CIPS UK Services Purchasing Managers’ Index, fell to 50.1 in January from 51.2 in December — its lowest level since July 2016 and barely above the 50 mark that separates growth from contraction.

A Reuters poll of economists had expected a reading of 51.1.

Britain’s economy defied forecasts from some economists that it would go into recession after the 2016 referendum vote to leave the European Union. But growth slowed sharply in late 2018 as worries mounted about an abrupt, no-deal Brexit.

Stan you need to be accurate when posting Brexit sensitive info.

Here is the correct info:

The UK services purchasing managers' index fell to 51.1 in January, down from 51.2 in December, according to IHS Markit.

The latest reading was the lowest for two-and-a-half years and the second-weakest since December 2012.

Puts a totally different slant on things.

These project fear remoaners are clutching at straws now they realise we really are leaving.

2517GEORGE - 05 Feb 2019 15:43 - 12232 of 12628

It's true it is the lowest number in 2.5 years and is slightly weaker than December. Anything over 50 is expanding, so we are still expanding but at a slower rate.

Italy for the last 2 months have had a figure of less than 50, they are officially in recession and their debt load becomes harder to service.

Dil - 05 Feb 2019 15:47 - 12233 of 12628

Germany stagnating , rest about to follow.

Never mind , maybe if they apply they can get a foreign aid grant off the UK.

hilary - 05 Feb 2019 16:24 - 12234 of 12628

I believe that Stan is correct, and it's George's data that's incorrect. I definitely read the 50.1 headline this morning inline with Stan's post. However, George got his figure here which says 51.1.

The official Markit release says 50.1 - here

Must be a typo on StockMarketWatch.com's website.

2517GEORGE - 05 Feb 2019 16:41 - 12235 of 12628

That is where I got my figure hilary, and if StockMarketWatch. com have got it wrong then so have I, so it's only right that I apologise to Stan.

Stan please accept my apologies your figures are correct.

Stan - 05 Feb 2019 17:53 - 12236 of 12628

Thank you muchly Hillary, George what can I say but I am truly humbled by your heartfelt apology, frankly I am close to tears...you sure you haven’t got a Coffee maker for sale -):

Stan - 05 Feb 2019 17:58 - 12237 of 12628

While we’re on about Europe I see Mrs Maybe Maybe Not is off on another Euro jolly I do hope she is going to set a fine example and travel by Mega Bus to keep the costs down for the Country’s sake.

2517GEORGE - 05 Feb 2019 18:04 - 12238 of 12628

Stan you may be close to tears but I'm still choking ha! ha!

No coffee maker for sale here, my coffee maker also sorts my meals, does my washing and ironing etc, so definitely not for sale.

Dil - 05 Feb 2019 18:09 - 12239 of 12628

I got one of them too George :-)

Also got a brilliant washing basket , just chuck your dirty clothes in it and a few days later turns up washed and ironed in wardrobe

Dil - 05 Feb 2019 18:12 - 12240 of 12628

Hils , pound falling ... no deal here we come.

And if Scarlett Johannson doesn't turn up I want I word with Gove.

hilary - 05 Feb 2019 18:48 - 12241 of 12628

Every market has News Days, Economy Days, and Technical Days, Dilbert.

Today's an Economy Day. Ça va.

Dil - 05 Feb 2019 19:12 - 12242 of 12628

Ah right , just like all the down days last week I suppose.

I've looked at the FX charts and besides the fall immediately after the vote there is nothing more than a very short term reaction to Brexit news.

Probably strengthen when we leave , deal or no deal.
