This will obviously effect Phoenix/GON in some shape or form but as the clamp down by SARFT has been well publicised over the last two years or so,along with the recent deal with Hunan "to develop interactive game play, functionality and content applications for seven shows to be broadcast on the Entertainment Channel over the coming year.",then I can't see there being a major problem.
I think it's mainly the content and visual aspect that if it goes too far against Chinese values then a programme gets clamped on by SARFT.GON/Phoenix are involved with one of the big players in China ie Hunan and I'm sure this working relationship will offer GON/Phoenix valuable lessons for the future!

It's possible the partnership with RDF Media and "best of RDF creative content " was formed with the tightening up of programmes in China in mind:
"Partnership with RDF Media
Having validated the pipeline and demonstrated the flexibility of our business
model we have sought access to a library of entertainment content and production
expertise that we can exploit within China and SEA. To this end we are delighted
to announce that Galleon has entered into an agreement to work with RDF Media to
co-produce a select number of shows with leading broadcasters in China
leveraging the best of RDF creative content and Galleon's business model and
expertise in executing these shows in the territory."
Anyway, not as bad as portrayed in post 1224

oooooooo,this is good,from TimesOnline:
Irish skunk cartoon wows US
"Skunk Fu, the story of a foul-smelling mammal who uses his toxic aroma for defence and learns martial arts from a wise panda master, has been bought by Cartoon Network in the United States for a six-figure sum. It began airing last month and could run for up to three years."
"Skunk Fu was originally aired on TG4, RTL Germany and BBC. It has now been broadcast in over 110 countries, earning more than 6m. The Cartoon Network deal is the shows biggest coup. Its writers are planning a script for a spin-off movie and manufacturers are preparing a toy line for next spring."
"Cartoon Network is a really big deal. Skunk Fu is on practically every day. Its the station we always wanted to get it on, he said. Its really good for licensing and toys. Some producers practically give their things to Cartoon Network for free because it's worth so much in merchandising.
"Galleon Entertainment, a London-based merchandising group, has created action figures and inflatable punching bags with sounds and electronic features. It plans to launch the line next spring in Ireland, the UK, France, Germany, Belgium and the United States.
Several Irish voices were used in the programme. Paul McLoone, lead singer with the Undertones, donned an English accent for Baboon and actor and comedian Paul Tylack plays the panda."

Just to emphasise why Super Soccer Star ticked all the right boxes regarding China's governing bodies, gets a bit lost in translation but you can get the gist:
Programme aims: elected soccer star, the courage to self-challenge!
Candidates are asked: if you love soccer, aged 13 to 16-year-old boy can be involved in the application.
Become a football star to have a good football skills, sportsmanship, leadership and personal charm,
In each episode of the soccer star program, players will receive various tests and to confront the face of the star judges. They have to understand, not just football skills honed, and the friendship between the players and the spirit of cooperation, Personal conduct of the training and the courage to challenge their attitude.
Should be getting some updates soon regarding:
"The early success of the show in Guangdong has also instigated discussions for further series of Super Soccer Star in China with satellite broadcasters as well as a new series from Galleon's Super Sports Star franchise, focusing on a new sport. Phoenix is also in discussions with potential partners in Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, India and Middle East and is in final negotiations of a co-production agreement for Super Soccer Star in Malaysia with a leading terrestrial broadcaster.
Commenting on the syndication, CEO of Galleon Holdings, Stephen Green said:
'The popularity of the first series of Super Soccer Star has exceeded our expectations as well as those of our partners. The syndication of the show is a key part of our strategy and demonstrates the quality of the programming and the steady execution of our business model. We expect this to be the first of a number of agreements as we roll-out the Super Soccer Star format to major broadcasters across China and South East Asia. This is further evidence that Galleon is well placed to exploit the opportunity that exists in the rapidly developing broadcast markets in China and South East Asia.' "

Of interest on this blue day:
RDF goes into orbit with Bebo
RDF Media's digital arm has partnered with Bebo for a project called A Message from Earth, allowing the social network's users to create a "digital time capsule" to be beamed into space.
The plan is to run a competition from August 4 to September 30, inviting the Bebo community to submit whatever messages they hope to have sent 120 million miles into space. Five hundred winning entries will be chosen and broadcast on October 9 by the National Space Agency of Ukraine.
According to Bebo, the messages will travel at light speed in the direction of target planet, Gliese 581C, which is 20.5 light years away from Earth. They're expected to reach their destination during spring 2029.
RDF Television is currently developing a TV format around the concept.

At last some information on Miss Star (from 2004) which was highlighted on the Phoenix website:
"Under the terms of the agreement, Phoenix will work with HNTV to develop interactive game play, functionality and content applications for seven shows to be broadcast on the Entertainment Channel over the coming year, including the show "Miss Star", one of the most highly watched shows in Hunan."
"Held for the 5th consecutive year, the Miss Star Pageant is an established beauty and talent contest in China organised by Hunan TV Station to scout for the top talents to helm their entertainment programmes and silver screens. It is similar to the Miss Hong Kong Beauty Pageant organised by HKTVB.
However, this year's event is especially memorable as for the first time ever, the semi-finals is being held out of China in conjunction with the 30th Anniversary of the Malaysia-China Diplomatic Ties. It also marks the first time the pageant has opened its doors to participants beyond China. (The finals will see a selected handful of beauties vying for the pageant's tiara at Changsha, Hunan on 17 September 2004.)
Mark your calendar to catch the bevy of beauties at The Pavilion. All you need to do is to participate in the voting for Miss International Friendship - Genting. Also, in conjunction with the event, Canon is sponsoring prizes for all camera wizards."

Interesting that when you type in 'hunan tv 2008' into Google you get two links on the first page relating to this months Hunan agreement with GON!
That's pretty amazing when you look at the size of Hunan TV and Dianguangchuanmei Corp or is it Hunan TIK or more probably Hunan TV& Broadcast Intermediary Co Ltd !

Just noticed that since the Interims (end of June) we then had three announcements for the month of July and all relating to new deals.......looks like it could well be a repeat of last year with news upon news! Can't fault GON under the new, well not new now, management as they have delivered so far and I can't see any reason why this shouldn't continue into the future. From last Interims:
Commenting on the first half results, David Wong, Chairman, Galleon Holdings plc, said:
'The first six months of this financial year have been very solid as the Group moves into a profitable phase of growth. This is a huge achievement by the management which has generated a profit in a period when they acquired and then integrated Phoenix and Yunbo in China and South East Asia.
'It is evident that we are steadily executing our business model in the emerging markets, particularly in China. Each of our divisions has continued to gain momentum and this will continue into the second half of the year. We are excited by the opportunities that we see ahead of us.'
and
Chairman's Statement
I am delighted to see the Group generate a profit for the first six months of the year with revenues coming from both the entertainment and the product division. In accordance with the requirements of the AIM market of the London Stock Exchange the Group is required to prepare this interim financial information under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
We have been consistent with our strategy for the entertainment division, focusing on multiplatform entertainment and interactive revenue streams in emerging markets such as China and South East Asia. We acquired Yunbo, a mobile service provider in China, in February 2008, for an initial consideration of US$3 million. This has bolstered our ability to provide Chinese broadcasters a complete media solution for multiplatform entertainment, giving us total control over the interactive content, its delivery to the consumer, data capture and the billing process. We have continued to grow our footprint in the region supplying interactive entertainment solutions to several broadcasters in China and Malaysia. Interactive entertainment revenues for this period was 1.1m compared to nil for the same period last year

I must also point out that although David Wong says:
'The first six months of this financial year have been very solid as the Group moves into a profitable phase of growth. This is a huge achievement by the management which has generated a profit in a period when they acquired and then integrated Phoenix and Yunbo in China and South East Asia.
There are performance related monies and new shares for Phoenix and 'Yunbo' respectively to be isued over time,I can go into more detail another night...lol,morning! If managed correctly the two acquisitions will pay for themselves in a short space of time, the way things are going.

Apollo's Pad is a strange one indeed, half of me thinks yes, along with the social networking sites this will be a hit and the other half thinks it's still a trial aimed at the China/SEA market, obviously with a completely different theme but using the main blocks that we see in Apollo's Pad.Even more so when I see 'Miss Apollo' and then 'Miss Star' from China's Hunan TV.
Edit-There is nothing to say that both scenarios can't work effectively of course.

Looks like someone sold their holding this morning just as it's all getting exciting too!
Apollo's Pad is still at a very early stage but it's interesting to note that just via the Youtube 'Pad' that viewing figures have increased recently and whoooooshed past the 11k mark:
"Apollo's Pad: Competion with Fabulous Prices
Apollospad.com is an entertaining multi media platform, with hilarious weekly episodes of the show Apollo's Pad.
Apollo's Pad is a bar somewhere in the US and the bar's patrons are a bunch of rude, loud, obnoxious, yet loveable characters. However, something seems to be missing to make the place complete; a hot talented all-round bar babe... and so the hunt for Miss Apollo begins."
