Israeli Gaza conflict?????? (GAZA)

Fred1new - 06 Jan 2009 19:21

Will this increase or decrease the likelihood of terrorist actions in America, Europe and the rest of the world?

If you were a member of a family murdered in this conflict, would you be seeking revenge?

Should Tzipi Livni and Ehud Olmert, be tried for war crimes if or when this conflict comes to an end?

What will the price of oil be in 4 weeks time?

Gausie - 22 Jul 2009 11:23 - 1227 of 6906

Fahel - please could you also please precis what the video is? Because if it's fair and evenhanded Fred won't want to watch it.

Fahel,

I watched the suggested video, with sad amusement. Sadly, it is almost as simplistic in expression as

M. Mouses and Gausys contributions, but does point to the injustices and bitterness within the Arab communities.

Also ,when one reflects over the compulsory confiscations of Jewish Land and goods in Germany and Russia as well as various other countries through the early parts of the 20th century, it seems strange to me that the Israeli government does not reflect upon its present day policies.

I think unless they do so, their actions will come back to haunt them.

For those who are not too blinkered the following is worth reading.

Israel downplays settlement rift

Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak has denied any impasse with the US over Jewish settlement activity in the West Bank as talks ended without agreement.
Mr Barak met US envoy George Mitchell as the two allies are struggling to end a rare public rift over the issue.
The US wants Israel to stop all settlement activity in the occupied territory, but Israel wants to continue what it calls "natural growth".
The Palestinians refuse to restart talks without a settlement freeze.
"I don't think we are stuck," Mr Barak said after the meeting with Mr Mitchell on Tuesday.

He said the talks were "positive" although there were still differences, and later told Israeli radio the two sides were close to reaching a compromise.
Asked whether Israel would offer a temporary halt to settlement activity, of three to six months, Mr Barak said it was "a little bit too early to predict".
He said Mr Mitchell would meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu within the next three weeks.
A meeting scheduled last week between the two was cancelled, in what has been interpreted as a sign of Israeli-US tension.
Access and movement
A joint statement from Mr Mitchell and Mr Barak said they had discussed "the full range of issues related to Middle East peace".
These included "measures on security and incitement by the Palestinians; steps by Arab states toward normalisation with Israel; and, from Israel, actions on access and movement in the West Bank and on settlement activity", the statement said.
Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, which Palestinians want for a future state, are seen as a major obstacle to peace. The Jewish population in these territories, occupied in the 1967 war, is thought to top 500,000.
On Monday, it emerged that Israel has approved the construction of 50 new residential units in Adam settlement, to house settlers evicted from an unofficial outpost.

The settlements are illegal under international law, although Israel disputes this.
Israel committed to freeze settlement activity under the 2003 "road map" peace plan.

Amazed you found time your busy schedule to watch this video Fred.

Sputnik - 22 Jul 2009 14:37 - 1231 of 6906

I blame Gausie for waking him up :-)

Fred1new - 22 Jul 2009 17:20 - 1232 of 6906

Isaacs, As I am retired, I find time to meander When and where I wish, its great!

But the wandering is at my own pleasure, not at the will of others.

Isaacs - 22 Jul 2009 21:32 - 1233 of 6906

LOL yes and you "meander" around anything you don't want to see based on previous experience.

Fred1new - 23 Jul 2009 10:04 - 1234 of 6906

You are what you are. I am sorry about your view on life. I have edited my last posting.

I am not surprised that you resort to denigrating the messenger again. The usual resort for ....................

But at least give credit to some world opinion and public information.

Give it a try.

Isaacs - 23 Jul 2009 10:48 - 1235 of 6906

Fred - don't give yourself credit for being my messenger on the Middle East. At least I've got my eyes and ears open to both sides and don't "meander" around things I might not like. Give it a try.

Fred1new - 23 Jul 2009 13:00 - 1236 of 6906

Isaacs, From now on, I will think of you from you as Mr Perfect!! Though for me, seemingly, a little short sighted unaware of your own imperfections and possibly hard of hearing.

Fred1new - 23 Jul 2009 13:14 - 1237 of 6906

Isaacs, Broaden your views.

The Israeli government is using the same bully boy tactics out of strength against the Arabs, as the fascists used against the Jews in Germany in the 1930 - 1945 period. Many seem to be chanting that they are the "chosen race".

Crazy

Israel settlers burn olive trees

Ten people have been arrested during a series of disturbances caused by Jewish settlers in the West Bank after Israeli authorities removed an illegal caravan.

Two Palestinians were taken to hospital after settlers threw stones at cars and tried to block a road near Nablus in the northern West Bank on Monday night.

Settlers also set fire to a Palestinian olive grove in the area.

The caravan was part of an "outpost", a settlement illegal under Israeli law, which Israel has agreed to remove.

Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank are illegal under international law.

Right-leaning Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is under US pressure to halt
all settlement building and carry out previous Israeli pledges to remove the outposts.

But the settlers, many of whom say they have a God-given right to live in the West Bank, have threatened to impose what they call a "price tag" on such evacuations.

The Human Rights Group Yesh Din said this can include attacking Palestinians and their property "to create a price for each evacuation, causing Israeli authorities to think twice about carrying them out".

Police did not give details of the incidents in which the 10 arrests were made, but said they were from a series of "disturbances" across the West Bank.

At least 280,000 Jews live in settlements (with a further 180,000 living in East Jerusalem), established in the occupied West Bank with Israeli government backing, in contravention of international law.

Israeli activist groups say there are, in addition, about 100 unauthorised outposts in the West Bank, where Palestinians want to locate their future state.

On Tuesday, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that Israeli forces were drafting a plan to remove 23 such outposts in one day.

If I am short sighted and a little hard of hearing you are a deaf blind mute.

Isaacs, people who are GENUINELY deaf, blind and mute cannot help themselves.........:)
Others may choose it as a "lifestyle"..............:)

Where have I heard this before

"We don't intend to put them in ghettos, or limit their growth, they receive all the rights" Ariel Atias, Israeli housing minister

The article below is interesting.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/8164755.stm

After Israel's housing minister called on Jews to move to the north of the country to stop what he described as "the spread of Arabs" there, the BBC's Katya Adler reports on the struggle for land in the area.

Sami Salameh has taken me to what used to be his home before the Israeli authorities flattened it.

Metal rods and slices of skirting board are all that's left, among an expanse of sun-scorched wild grass.

He has brought along some photographs and kicks the earth as he shows them to me. The wiry 65-year-old man is angry and emotional.

"When the house collapsed so did my dreams," he says.

He insists this plot of earth belonged to his family dating back to Ottoman times. But Israel has claimed it as state land. He is not allowed to build here now.

Mr Salameh's new home is in the Arab town of Majdal Krum, in northern Israel. It's illegally built, as is the whole neighbourhood. His family of 14 lives in three rooms. The sewage system is poor.

Mr Salameh's wife, Ashi, tells me the atmosphere in the house is listless and depressed.

He blames their birthright - living as Arabs in the Jewish state of Israel, he says.
"I lost everything when they demolished my house. If I had equal rights, I wouldn't be in this mess. Jewish communities get building permits easily. They have electricity, water, sewage, street lights and parks. How come they live like that and we don't?"

Just outside Mr Salameh's home, a group of boys plays football in the street. Their identity, like his, is complex.

They are Israeli but also Arab. Their families stayed put in Israel after its war of independence 60 years ago.

I
srael's Basic Law says all its citizens are equal, but Israeli Arabs say some Israelis are more equal than others.

Neighbouring the town is the leafy, affluent, self-proclaimed Zionist village of Manof.
It is one of the growing predominantly Jewish communities encouraged in the north by Israeli governments since the late 1970s.
'No discrimination'
Northern Israel is home to the highest concentration of Israeli Arabs.

Etc.etc.
