As I'm sure you are aware, we and many of you have had a long and tiresome battle with Java when trying to use our streaming services. We have therefore been working on a solution to remove this problem.

We are pleased to announce that we have a new stockwatch available for use which no longer uses Java. We are currently making this available as a technical beta version, which means we are interested in your feedback regarding performance, bugs and browser/operating system/device compatibility issues (note: design and styling will be addressed in later beta releases).

For the purpose of allowing the old and new stockwatch versions to run concurrently, the technical functionality of the new stockwatch mimics the old one for now (not style, fonts or look). Editing and managing watchlists uses the same process as the current java stockwatch but is now at the top of the page. This will allow you to switch between the versions should you have any problems. All technical features of the current stockwatch are available in the new version except for the ability to drag resize columns. In the near future and as we migrate away from the java version of stockwatch, we will add new usability features as well as design it up to make the whole stockwatch experience smoother than it has ever been.

As this new version does not require java, you should expect it to work on your android devices and ipad/iphones. For now the display has not been optimised for smaller screens, but this will come in future development.

NOTE: Due to javascript performance in Internet Explorer 8, this new stockwatch can cause high CPU load. We recommend you use a current version of a modern browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox for best results.

Please do not worry about design/style at the moment as this version has not been styled it is purely a technical beta test environment it will be styled before it is released. We have put this here purely for feedback on its technical functionality i.e does it work in your browser and on your PC/Laptop/Tablet/Mobile

cowshapedfish, Mo06: The T.Price in Java has always flashed colour but then went to black afterwards. We decided that this was an unnecessary exception, so it will either have to flash black like Volume and go to black text, or flash coloured and go to coloured text. I think we will leave it how it is now.

Opera 19 does work on XP and performs similar to Chrome but I prefer to stick to 12.16 as later versions running on the new engine have issues with regard to bookmarks and customisation. The high cpu activity is probably related to the age of my PC and running on XP as my more recent Windows 7 laptop does not have these high cpu issues running Opera 12.16.
Will the columns be resizeable as the name column is far too wide?

I have downloaded Firefox, as suggested by George
and others here yesterday and everything seems to be
working fine except that with Firefox my screen shows
half the stuff I had with IE and the MAM Investors
Room tab is nowhere to be seen, as Directors Deals
is the last tab. I am accessing this page via IE.
Is it OK to keep both IE8 and Firefox
on my PC? Also, how can I reduce the size of everything
on Firefox? Doing that should display the Investors Room
tab, I imagine! Thanks.

I was about to cancel my subscription, but the new non-Java live prices is brilliant, as I can now check prices on the move, on my iPhone, iPad, and Chromebook.

I was given the option on this today so gave it a go. Works for me. The older version was fine on a PC, but I moved to Mac last summer and have been running this on IE through Parallels. The old version was a bit wobbly, but this suits me far better.

The new SW is looking good now. It looks good on the eye and it feels good

It will be even better when we can dispense entirely with Java when using trades pages etc without having to use Java

I find the capital letters make it a little more difficult to pick up data. They make it a seem more crowded.

The T.price being coloured is unnecessary because it's inaccurate. That isn't MAM's fault but the fact that no one really knows whether a trade is a buy or a sell..having them coloured either blue or red is misleading and it distracts from the bid/offer/%spread columns

cowshapedfish: In normal conditions, the colour of T.Price text is related to the direction of the stock on the day, the same as Mid, Chg etc. When it flashes, the background colour flashes Blue if the T.Price went up and Red if it went down. The colour doesn't correspond to if it was a buy or a sell.

cowshapedfish: Having looked at it again, i can see some inaccuracy in the colouring sometimes because T.Price isn't always updated when the Mid Change updates. If a change to Mid Chg moves the stock from +ve to -ve (or vice versa) without T.Price updating, the colours can become out of sync. We will address this.

Can't get the trades in either old or new versions. But recently received a java update that may have something to do with it. Otherwise everything tickety-boo.

midknight - its fine I have fireforx, IE and chrome on my machine and it causes no issues.
