International exhibition
The Iraq Procurement exhibition will offer the opportunity for companies to showcase the goods and services that will prove essential in aiding the development of Iraq. It will open on Monday 22 November 2004, with an official tour for VIP delegates.

Meet the Buyers
The Meet the Buyers forum will enable Iraqi contractors and business leaders to meet with delegates to discuss their immediate and long-term business needs.
The meetings will be held in 20-minute slots, each meeting lasting 15 minutes with five minutes allocated for changeover. Delegates have already had the opportunity to schedule their meetings via our online scheduling capability.

As these have already been scheduled, we ask all delegates to adhere to the structure already outlined; failure to follow this will have a disruptive effect on the event.

Ministerial meetings
Private exclusive meetings will be available to those who have booked them, on a scheduled basis with senior figures from the Iraqi government. These face-to-face meetings will allow delegates to sit down with ministers, deputy ministers, governors, director generals and heads of chambers of commerce.

The meetings will be held in 30-minute slots, each meeting lasting 25 minutes with five minutes allocated for changeover. Ministerial meetings will be held over the course of the three days. It should be noted that the ministers will be running to a very tight schedule; delegates must be punctual, as meetings cannot be rescheduled.
Expert seminars
The conference will include keynote plenary speeches from business and political leaders, plus specific expert seminars providing the necessary insight into doing business in specific industry sectors.
Areas to be covered include:

The announcement of specific projects open to foreign investment
The announcement of contracts and tenders
Industry-specific ministerial round tables
Legal framework and foreign ownership statutes
Financial and banking structures and the security of investments
Successful partnering with regional and international contractors
Industry-specific case studies including education, IT, healthcare, oil exploration and refining, communications, energy projects, banking and finance, agriculture, water and wastewater

Gala dinner
An official gala dinner will take place at the Four Seasons Hotel Amman on Tuesday 23 November 2004. Guests will have the opportunity to relax and network with fellow delegates in a more informal environment.

The dinner will include a four-course meal, followed by a variety of entertainment, including a performance by the legendary Iraqi musician Ilham Al Madfai.


Iraqi Business Exchange
The new Iraq Business Exchange online forum offers Iraqi companies the opportunity to reach the global market to source suppliers, partners and ideas, maintain communication and open dialogue.

As I read the info they tender information looks to be announced during one of the seminars, as the announcements of contracts/tenders is under the expert seminar section, although I maybe wrong.

JuP.S - Note that the "announcement of contracts of tenders" comes under "Expert Seminars", which are being held at 14:30 onwards on day two and three. Maybe Tuesday at about 15:00 Iraqi time is the most likely bet...what is that, midday GMT?

Dont wanna rain on the parade but the reference to contracts and tenders could relate to further such, not necessarily announcement of contract AWARDS...

I agree these events are common place all over, dare i say even in the uk. It is more likely to relate to contracts and tenders that are in the offing which the potential suppliers could register an interest in. Meet the Buyers is a common forum put on by major cities or councils in the UK, as have been invited to attend these myself.Obviously would prefer it to be an announcement of PET winning a contract but this is not the event for this kind of thing(sorry) -IMO

Im not expecting to hear anything today, although, it would be most welcome. Whats a few more days anyway guys!!!!!! ha ha!!!!!!!! I think most of the Pet holders would think the same?

Leaving aside the politics and the war, there seem to be only good news coming out of Iraq over the weekend! Last night the Iraqi government announced the elections to be held on 30 January. The international creditors in the form of the Paris Club agreed to write of 80% of Iraqi debt. It would appear that the Iraqi and the US are in a charm offensive to win over the Iraqi populace.

In addition what better way to show this than by announcing contracts in the IP Amman meeting starting today, as it is part of the meeting programme?

What better still to announce contract tendered by pet who EMPLOY IRAQIS.

As it seems the above events must have been planned to coincide within days of one another, it is becoming clear why the oil ministry said that Pet's tendered contracts would announced by the end of November, 'read' 22-24 November.

So expect Pet's contract (s) to be announced Wednesday/ Thursday.

The blues from today onwards until the blue sky is the limit on the announcement day!

Just found this in the Jordan Times. I just had this thought, if PET are at this do, it will also give them a chance to push for other contracts etc, just in case nothing came of their tenders. Not that this will happen IMO.

Iraq-Procurement 2004 offers direct relations to businesses
An exhibition will be held on the sidelines of the conference

AMMAN A three-day conference on rebuilding Iraq will take-off today seeking to connect Iraqi businesses with global companies looking for prospects in the oil rich, but war-ridden country.
Iraq-Procurement 2004 will host a large number of international companies and Iraqi companies as well as official delegations, organisors said at a press conference on Sunday.

The aim of Iraq Procurement is to enable businesses and traders to benefit from direct relations between Iraq and the world, Iraq Procurement Managing Director Raminder Singh-Barmi said.

The event is the second of its kind to take place.The first was held last April in London.

Attending companies will have the opportunity to increase their chance of successfully conducting business in Iraq by forming partnerships with local Iraqi firms and bypassing third-party agencies, organisors said.

Since the end of the war, local and international private companies organised several conferences and seminars in Jordan on rebuilding Iraq.

Iraq-Procurement 2004, however, will focus on the role of Iraqi companies in the rebuilding process, according to Mostafa Al Bazergan, chairman of the Iraqi-British Business Council.

Our aim is to promote the role of Iraqi companies, not foreign entities, in the reconstruction work, Bazergan indicated.

An exhibition will be held on the sidelines of the conference offering participating companies a platform to showcase their goods and services.

Meetings with Iraqi ministers and senior government officials will be available to participants over the course of the event.

In addition, expert speakers will address industry specific questions pertaining to conducting business and investment in Iraq.

Iraqi businesswomen will also get the opportunity to take part in the event, according to Bazergan.

A meeting for Iraqi businesswomen will be held on the sidelines of the conference to give women an active role in the rebuilding process, he said.

gra1969 - I think in this news black out and with the end of November approaching there is nothing new to post, all we can do is sit back and wait, alot of other boards have now been filled up with de-rampers who are taking advantage of the news black out to spook any new investors, glad that has not happened over here.

Over the other side, one of my favourite posters(SWALF)has returned, he does not post often, but I have been informed but a trusted friend that this guy has a great success rate with his investments, but I tend to like his posts as his information is normally spot on (makes for an interesting read anyway)

First of all, Yes politics are playing a major role in the awarding of these contracts and will do for some time to come, - hardly an obscure observation!

However that is ONE of the reasons why Petrel will do exceptionally well in the 'New Iraq' The Americans are aware that the current world consensus believes the majority of the oil proceeds/contracts will be filtered through to US backed/owned intrests.Awarding small to medium sized contracts to firms such as PETREL are politically motivated - simple! In other words this gives the world community, or at least the naive general populas, the impression that the US is commited to sharing contracts in the true free market spirit.

Secondly,

As I pointed out on a previous post Petrel will be eyed by the majors as a vehicle, by which they can secure some of the more lucrative contracts without raising too much suspicion and in addition not exposing themselves and their global brand to dangerous elements namely in the form of terrorism. A no brainer ! As the Americans like to say.

Thirdly,

The majors need PETREL. They need PETREL to succeed in Iraq. They have a vested interest in operations like PETREL becoming operational because it allows them to not only utilize the relationships that the firm has developed over the years between key personnel in both the Iraqi oil ministry and the Petrel organization but it also gives them the added advantage of being seen to respect the sacrifices and work the likes of Petrel have made over the years during the embargo.

Over the years I have employed several nationalities from the gulf region namely Lebanese,Persians but also the odd Iraqi and Saudi. Understanding the mindset of the average Arab man is quite a task. But remember this one important thing. The Iraqi people suffered greatly under the embargo particularly with regards to medical supplies for their children. Irrespective of the reasoning behind the sanctions they felt that the majority of the world left them to their demise. Firms like PETREL who stuck with them, negotiating, networking amongst other things have their utmost respect. This has been relayed to me by several influential Oil industry execs. The majors have lost this critical advantage and they are concerned, very concerned.

Petrel is positioned to reap massive rewards from .......

I was going to go on but I have decided to stop.Why do I reply to idiots like SS and M and C , by repling I only give them credit which is not my intention. I will end on the following note.

Petrel is on the brink of shocking the city in a manner that only happens in the market once in a blue moon. Buy in on any sign of weakness and ride the stock. Stop trying to guess the RNS date. I can gaurantee you all one thing. The news that is forthcoming is very good indeed. On release of the news the city will take several days to digest it before the stock really jumps. On deals like this they always do. Thats when you will be sucked into selling thinking that the stock has peaked. You always do.

that was a great post by SWALF. i do think that most people are linking the iraq procurement and PET`s tenders, i might be wrong but i can`t find anything positively linking the two. we had this with the last iraq procurement in august, but again nothing linking the two.

remember these tenders were put out at the beginning of the year, and i think the fact that they have dragged on longer than we all hoped, that we automatically link them to the meetings in amman.

i still think PET will get 2 contracts and block 6 rubber stamped, i don`t care if they are risk sharing or not to start with, as lon as they get a foothold in iraq.
