Updated TA

cynic - 14 Jul 2007 09:11 - 1248 of 3050

PT - Alleyne, like 10B, is worth avoiding .... his only saving grace is that his rather personal attacks take up less page space.

it is a common misconception, that investors who make use of charts (of which there are many varieties), are stupid enough to think they are the Holy Grail, which of course they are not, though they are very useful tool ....... nevertheless it takes a narrow-minded bigot (none spring immediately to mind!) to refuse to accept that charts and market/share movements are inextricably linked, not least because so many PI investment decisions and computer trading programmes are (effectively) based on or triggered by them ...... thus, whether illogical or not, charts are frequently self-fulfilling.

as an openly admitted shorter of SOLA, I shall be watching the share movements carefully, as recommended by you (PT) ...... i confess i had hoped or even expected sp to fall quite sharply, not least because investors are moving into the newly-arrived rival PVCS (had a very good write-up in this morning's Telegraph) ....... however, SOLA sp has stayed (remarkably) steady, so just maybe a recovery could be staged - nous verrons

kitosdad - 14 Jul 2007 10:48 - 1249 of 3050

" so just maybe a recovery could be staged " LOL. Cyn, you sound as though you are writing about SEO, not SOLA.
These people work a 24 hour day, refining, improving, sourcing, producing, and most importantly, selling. Excellent forward-thinking management, and a loyal bond with customers and suppliers. There is no way that this can go down.World leader within 12 months.

ps. Hows your short going.? At least you are up-front about it.

cynic - 14 Jul 2007 10:58 - 1250 of 3050

i shorted at 530, so self-apparent ..... "There is no way that this can go down" is surely a foolishly rash statement as even you must admit .... whether or not SOLA will be a "world leader within 12 months" is actually irrelevant, for even if true, and i have no view or even care, sp's never travel in straight lines either up or down ..... i am short, not because i totally disagree with your view, but because i feel, or certainly felt, that the current impetus and direction was looking south rather than north.

by the way, recovery of course referred to sp and has/had nothing to do with the company's prospects, real or imagined.

kitosdad - 14 Jul 2007 12:10 - 1251 of 3050

Well put Cyc. No offence or assumptions taken. Wish you well, as ever.

cynic - 14 Jul 2007 12:33 - 1252 of 3050

never take offense even with the dreaded 10B or Alleyne or even the late and unlamented and hanged-drawn-and-quartered tcdmct!

ptholden - 14 Jul 2007 19:34 - 1253 of 3050

Cynic

Can't say I am bothered about a few idiotic comments (I was reading in the Times last week that an Idioit has an IQ in the region of 2). I'm more than happy for other posters to slate my TA as long as it's done in a constructive way with a well presented counter argument. Can't stand these idiots (IQ of 2) who are unable to build in a rational sense their own case. In any event the TA was proven right to a degree and was in profit, shame it didn't hit the target of 480p but time yet.

Looks like you were right PTH about the SP on Friday.

Nice one.

GF

Not sure I was right, by the Close I was sitting on the fence so I guess I would have been right no matter which way it went - LoL. Time yet though for the short case to be proven

Updated SOLA TA

kitosdad - 17 Jul 2007 07:33 - 1257 of 3050

LOL ... becoming like the never-ending story with this debate. LOL. Let's just let it run
its course and not bicker about it guys. Time will tell, like with all things.

Alleyne - 19 Jul 2007 13:43 - 1258 of 3050

Shorters just can't get this to bite can they. They were warned.

Greyhound - 19 Jul 2007 14:11 - 1259 of 3050

Alleyne, I've made a lot of money here since last summer, then shorted and made some more. I've played this current range and now short again. It's hardly on the rise that much and with 3/4 of my profits in PV Crystalox (up almost 20% since float), Sola would have to be trading at roughly 660/680p just to equal my returns. I accept everyone has different strategies, but I can afford to run my short for a while (if I don't get too bored). The volume has been flimsy and with increasing competition and following such massive 400-500% gains I'd rather hedge my bets that it could well fall.

You lost me a bit on the "warning". Anyone taking long or short positions takes that decision themselves and pays the consequences.

Alleyne - 20 Jul 2007 18:43 - 1260 of 3050

Ouch. The week ends with another sharp sword cut across the arris of the shorters. You were warned, and I'm not surprised I lost you hounddog. Now the AGM is coming up. Mercy! LOL!

cynic - 20 Jul 2007 19:10 - 1261 of 3050

OUCH????? hardly!!! i've been away all week and note that i am now slightly out of pocket but a long way off feeling i need or even ought to close

Alleyne - 21 Jul 2007 17:53 - 1262 of 3050

Gonna stay short then eh? Well, it's up to you but those charts you are always banging on about don't really support your case to they? Ah well, your call.

cynic - 21 Jul 2007 18:37 - 1263 of 3050

you really are a wally ...... if you ever bothered to read, you will note, though it is blindingly obvious, that i have already highighted that charts are no more than a useful tool ..... as i also mentioned, because so many people follow them, they are perhaps more often self-fulfilling than they arguably deserve.

shall i stay short of SOLA? ..... yes, for the time being, not least because the market in general could be in for a pretty torrid time ....... i am certainly very glad indeed that i banked a lot of profits last week and the week before, including TAN and DOO in which i fully expect to re-invest in due course, and also top-sliced SCHE; CSR may well follow ..... all quality companies in their respective fields.

goldfinger - 23 Jul 2007 12:54 - 1264 of 3050

Well it certainly looks like 100% dilution could be on the cards if we are to believe the CEO of sola and I dont doubt him in todays telegraph.

Some will say yes OK EPS have halved and the P/E is sky high but it depends where and how quickley they get a return on the investment.

My thoughts after the last two profit warnings, one for the wire saws productivity not being what it should have been and the shortfall in production in the last quarter point to a long and lengthy capacity ramp up, throw in the deplorable fundies and you have what could be a disaster on the cards.

Heres what the CEO had to say...

The full article from today's Daily Telegraph is pasted below:-

Charles Bai, ReneSola

Charles Bai, 46, is chief financial officer of ReneSola, a Chinese company that turns scrap silicon into wafers for use in solar panels. He has worked for more than 17 years in investment banks, including for RBC Dominion Securities in Canada where he helped float Chinese companies.
After moving to Asia in 1995, Mr Bai worked for Deutsche Bank as an associate director, was finance director at Ogden Energy, vice-president at Tractebel and chief financial officer at Fenet Software. He talks about the silicon industry and working abroad.

Q How are silicon materials recycled for solar panel use?
A We use scrap silicon materials which are primarily from the semi-conductor industry. We recycle them by putting them into a furnace, which takes one-and-a-half days. The melted liquid is put into a crucible and then into a cooling zone. It becomes a solid called an "ingot" and is then cut by a slicing machine into wafers.

Q Besides solar panels, are they used for anything else?
A Historically they were used for construction, to solidify concrete. But this is minimised now as it is very expensive.

Q What's the most challenging country to work in?
A Thailand, as English is not widely spoken so you have to use your hands to express yourself! The cab drivers do not speak English often - I once had to call my secretary and get her to speak to the driver to give him directions.

Q How do Chinese and UK investment attitudes differ?
A The Chinese have more of an entrepreneurial spirit. They move very quickly when they see an opportunity. I have worked for multinationals before and they have to go through a process and hierarchies.

Q Is the attitude towards Aim Chinese companies unfair?
A To a certain extent, it is. For example, a few months after we floated I got an email from some people in the UK asking to put up a photo of the business on the website to get a feel of our operation.
I said: "Sure, if it helps you understand." Then I got a further email wanting a video camera, showing the business 24 hours a day. I didn't agree with this. If people don't trust Chinese companies like us, they should trust the professionals in London such as the lawyers and the accountants who do due diligence.

Q Shouldn't a 550m company like ReneSola move to the Main Market?
A We are evaluating different options. We feel a company of our size probably should be looking for an alternative, like a dual listing, at least initially. We are looking at the main board listing, as well as listing in the US or even Hong Kong. But not China, as it takes quite a long time to get our return.

Q Name a surprising thing about being a quoted company?
A One thing I did not expect was the phone calls from fund managers and private investors. Some people do not realise I am based in China and I get calls every night.

Q What do you do to unwind outside work?
A I always have time for photography. I love landscapes and I put my pictures on a semi- professional website in China.

kitosdad - 23 Jul 2007 14:36 - 1265 of 3050

Give it a rest GF. You are really becoming a bloody bore here. Get a life and go and short FEP to get your hand in before you short SOLA.

ps. " could " be on the cards.? Thought it was definite, in your humble opinion. Not getting the wind-up are we.?
