No, but good acoustics.

.... and the beer wasn't too bad either .... pity about the large dog guarding the toilet ....
.... Stan had the advantage going home .... the London Midland Pullman back left from the platform that was on the same side as the bar ...

Fred1new - 30 Jul 2009 17:00 - 1262 of 1427

Survive, Hope all is OK. There wasn't a dog!! It seems the beer was good.

Look forward to next time.

Hi Fred.... I hope very much that we'll see you attend the next 'gathering' of the "Birmingham Few".

Yes, ale was smooth:
Golden Glow. Alcohol By Volume: 4.4%
An 18ct gold, golden ale with subtle yet fragrant hop aromas, a moreish gentle sweetness and an almost citrus like pleasant bitter finish. Brewed using the finest English Maris Otter malts and choicest Fuggles, Golden Glow is a thirst quenchingly refreshing beer.
Champion Beer of Britain Bronze Medal Winner in the Golden Ales Category 2006.

At least a large dog wasn't guarding the restroom facilities on the train back to New Street (... journey time less than 30 minutes ... )

Stan .....

This is The Vine I was on about:

http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/54/5468/Vine/West_Bromwich

It's in walking distance of the Wolves - Brum Metro line

The following is from Sandwell Council literature:

An evening out in the Black Country is
a night to remember. Local pubs have a
deserved reputation for their character,
individuality and the warmth of their
welcome. As the area is one of the last
regions to offer a wide variety of locally
brewed beers, its no surprise these are
very popular. Some have achieved an
international reputation; others are a
local secret waiting to be discovered.
Two of the five AA-recommended
pubs* in the whole of the West
Midlands can be found locally
Oldburys The Waggon and Horses
and The Vine in West Bromwich.

Food also features large in any night out.
Huge pies including a full beef dinner
with veg can be found at the Tipton Pie
Factory and there are plenty of
traditional home-cooked sausages,
faggots n peas and pork scratchings.

Sounds a good-un.

The one that I was thinking of is this one

I see outlets in Broad St. were surveyed so not surprised with the results.

I phoned the local Trading Standards to find out what the law stated about a pint of beer.

I was told that the head is an integral part of the pint, but it is at the discretion of the customer how big the head is, and if the pub serving the beer will not top the pint up to your requirement then Trading Standards will pay them a visit.

about time as well -):

It was some people holding out and requiring Compulsory Purchase Orders which did delay the start ...

Can we keep this as a quote:
Network Rail said passengers would not be affected by the work.

As they're using the word 'expected' does this mean they're not sure yet:
The new concourse, expected to be more than three times bigger than the present one

City council leader Mike Whitby said New Street would be transformed into a station that would be "the envy of the world".
But no integrated bus or coach interchange...

Given the use of the word 'eventually' does this mean that they expect to be late in completing the project:
Eventually the station will have brighter and clearer platforms

More questions then answers there I think.

Yeep.... and no way to incorporate the high speed London to the North link that is presently being 'planned'.....

Stan - 11 Aug 2009 18:03 - 1277 of 1427

I have a venue for our next meeting http://www.birminghamcamra.org.uk

Only question is what day/times?..get your thinking caps on.

Thinking Caps On...
----------------------------------------------------

Mar 8 2004

A new high-speed train line from London to Birmingham and the North must be in place in ten years time to avoid critical levels of rail congestion, the Government's chief transport adviser has warned.

Stan - 11 Aug 2009 18:12 - 1279 of 1427

Only 5 years to go then.

Ed: See 1277 for next meeting details.
