banjomick - 15 Jun 2004 08:48

INTELLIGENT INVESTING WITH BANJO,well sort of! (Ed-hmmmm-lol)

Galleon Holdings plc has three key divisions:Galleon Entertainment for entertainment type IP,Croco Worldwide for product IP,Phoenix for interactive TV services for broadcasters in China/South East Asia which includes Robot Information Technology (Lushy Assets ('Yunbo')) who are a wireless interactive platform service provider in China who will work alongside Phoenix to enable GON to hold on to a greater part of the generated revenue and so increase the profit margin......think that's the plan! :-)

This makes Galleon Holdings a 'One Stop Shop' to develop and complete new and existing IP's.

I'm still catching up,this is from the 19th August:

"The success the television show has had on the Cartoon Network right out of the blocks is unprecedented.

"The characters and comedic play lend themselves to a long-term franchise opportunity. We're confident that pairing Zizzle's product and marketing expertise, The Sharpe Company's stellar licensng and Croco's product, we are creating a recipe for success."

Charlie Day, president of The Sharpe Company, added: "Zizzle is an anchor partner in the development of the licensing programme for Skunk Fu. We are in active discussions with book publishers, interactive game manufacturers, back to school, apparel and gift companies."

I'd better give a quick (may not be spot on) bit of history on the Pokon phenomenon:

The first animation series was shown globally about 10 years ago.

There have been about 11 Pokon films with the first in 1999.

The Pokon comic book outsells every other comic book on the shelf.

After the original Pokon was released, sales of Nintendos GameBoy system jumped 249%

Total Pokon videogame sales of 175 million copies are second only to the Mario series.

The Pokon Trading Card Game is the number one collectible trading card game in the world.

From 2005:

Every single version of the hit game has sold at least a million units and their latest addition, Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness is expected to do no worse. Nintendo has released a statement announcing that the Pokemon franchise overall is close to selling its 150 millionth game globally.
It shouldn't be too shocking. Everyone I know has played a Pokemon game at least once in their lives and I do know a shocking few who are keeping up with the new releases. The Pokemon franchise seems to have been one of Nintendo's smartest investments to date, having been milked of $15 billion worldwide in the last decade.
http://www.theinquirer.net/en/inquirer/news/2005/10/07/pokemon-sales-near-150-million-units

From 2007:

"One of the video game industrys most celebrated franchises is officially hotter than ever. Within just five days of availability, more than 1 million copies of Pokon Diamond and Pokon Pearl for the portable Nintendo DS have sold in the United States since Sundays launch; a faster rate than any previous Pokon games since the franchises U.S. introduction, almost a decade ago."

"Later this year, these two titles will also help expand the Pokon universe for the first time to Wii, Nintendos new home video game system."
http://gonintendo.com/?p=16885

From 2008:

Pokemon USA and Burger King Corp. Partner for Global Promotion in 2008 (not GON)

"Pokemon USA, Inc., and Burger King Corp. today announced a promotional partnership that will bring popular characters like Pikachu(R), Darkrai(TM), Dialga(TM) and Palkia(TM) to children around the world. Participating BURGER KING(R) restaurants worldwide will offer an exclusive Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG) card and accessory with each purchase of a BK(R) Kids Meal. These BURGER KING(R) restaurants will be the only place where children can obtain each of the 12 different Pokemon TCG cards and accessories. The promotion will run from July 7 through August 3 domestically and throughout the late summer and fall internationally."
http://www.restaurantnewsresource.com/article32998.html

All the above is just to highlight Pokon and the popularity of the subject which also indicates that Croco are indeed a major player,if there was any doubt!

Relating to post 1278,can't remember who posted it? (ED-Twas you,yer barm pot).

I could be wrong but most of Croco's work has been for South America and Europe and as far as I'm aware they haven't stepped into China/SEA as yet!

The Phoenix site clearly states that Croco are heading down the China/SEA route and knowing GON they have probably made contacts and deals already.China holds roughly 20% of the world population and GON,Phoenix and Croco are in there!

More announcements please,GON.Tomorrow will do............

This is interesting and if read to the letter it would suggest the 'puppet' part of Apollo's Pad has ended which would be born out by the lack of new 'webisodes'.

"Chensational-built puppet characters have appeared in television, in film, and on stage. I have had the personal pleasure of puppeteering for several television shows, commercials, and online video projects, as well. Please feel free to browse some of my past work below."

http://www.chensationalpuppets.com/about.htm

Is this the end of Apollo's Pad I hear you cry?

First of all it's not definite that the puppet webisodes have ended.

The hunt for Miss Apollo 2009 and the comments relating to Apollo's Pad would suggest the concept is here to stay:

"ABOUT MISS APOLLO

Q: What is Apollospad?
A: Apollospad.com is an entertaining multi media platform, with hilarious weekly episodes of the show Apollos Pad. (Muppe show on crack)

Q: What is the Hunt for Miss Apollo?
A: Apollos Pad is a bar somewhere in the US. The bars patrons are a bunch of rude, loud, obnoxious, yet loveable characters. However, something seems to be missing to make the place complete; a hot talented all-round bar babe and so the hunt for Miss Apollo begins..."

http://www.bestbarbabe.com/ContentPage_id_15.aspx

This made me laugh:

"ABOUT NUDITY

Q: Can I be naked or topless on my pictures?
A: Yes to a artistic line, full frontale/porn pictures are not accepted"

Then again on the Apollo's Pad website it states-Puppetry: Lenz Entertainment

Hmmmm, wish I'd never started this post but will leave it for reference-lol

banjomick - 30 Aug 2008 23:25 - 1286 of 1609

Anyway,as we are bordering into September here is a repeat of the 14th August announcement:

Galleon Holdings PLC

Agreement with MMTV in China

Galleon Holdings plc (AIM: GON), an AIM listed entertainment media company focused on the emerging markets, is pleased to announce that it has signed an agreement with Chinese National digital TV broadcaster, MMTV, to co-produce a series of Galleon's Play Along Gameshows ('PAGS') .

Under the terms of the agreement, Galleon's Chinese operation, Phoenix, a provider of interactive entertainment services to broadcasters in China and South East Asia, will work with MMTV to produce a range of highly interactive programmes or PAGS, which will include a dating show, a call-in chat show and a psychology show. These shows are expected to launch in September. Revenue will be earned on a revenue share basis.

In addition to co-producing these shows, Galleon has secured an exclusive contract for its China based Mobile Service Provider Yunbo, to provide billing and fulfilment of all mobile or telephone based interactive activity, across all MMTV's programming.

MMTV is a fast growing digital TV channel targeting a female audience with programming that focuses on topics such as love and dating, fashion, TV shopping, wellbeing and lifestyle. Based out of Changsha in the Hunan province, it broadcasts across 92 cities and currently reaches an audience of approximately 75 million, which is expected to grow to 130 million by the end of 2008.

Galleon is now working with four television stations in China on the development and production of interactive content and formats. The Company expects to sign further agreements with Chinese television stations during 2008.

Commenting on the latest agreement in China, CEO of Galleon Holdings, Stephen Green said:

'Galleon is beginning to gain traction in the interactive entertainment TV market in China, growing its footprint with our portfolio of PAGS and also bigger prime time IP such as Super Soccer Star, first broadcast in Guangdong earlier this year. We have numerous discussions underway allowing us to apply our business model to more entertainment with more partners.'

Of interest relating to Phoenix/Croco:

23 Jul 2007
Hunan TV & Broadcast Co.'s earnings up 800%
(China Knowledge)

Hunan TV & Broadcast Intermediary Co. Ltd<000917> reported an earning growth of more than 800% in the first half of the year.

Profits for the company totaled RMB 2.7 million in the first half of the year. Its earning per share (EPS) is deemed to be RMB 0.01. The company says that the one major factor contributing to the extremely good performance in the first half is the setting up of the Hunan Province Cable TV Network Group Co. Ltd. Rapid development of its cable TV network digitization service has stretched the group's potential.

banjomick - 02 Sep 2008 21:40 - 1290 of 1609

Lets have a look at what is happening in China/SEA now and in the near future with a few figures thrown in for good measure:

Firstly it might be a good idea to give the reasons why GON are going down the China/SEA route, from January's year end results:

"Operational Strategy

Strategically we have focused on investing in our entertainment division due to the long term returns that we see in this area whilst also driving revenues through the organic growth of Croco our product IP division which has continued to build on earlier successes.

This year both divisions have generated income.Croco continues to grow and we expect our entertainment division to make a significant contribution to performance in the current year.

We have stated that strategically we would be focussing on cross-platform entertainment. With this in mind we turned our attentions to the emerging markets due to their significant TV and online audiences and high mobile phone penetration. This led to the acquisition in October 2007 of Phoenix Global Investment Limited,a provider of interactive television services in China and rest of South East Asia. Ownership of Phoenix will allow Galleon Entertainment's IP to be some of the first to break into China at a crucial time in that market's growth. It also presents opportunities to co-venture with other global media companies anxious to be operational in this territory.

This puts Galleon in a unique position in the marketplace, allowing us to form some interesting strategic alliances going forward. As well as being an owner and manager of cross-platform entertainment content, Galleon now has a business model and channel for distributing cross-platform entertainment into China and the rest of South East Asia."

Also from January's year end results:

"Galleon Entertainment - Phoenix Global Investment Limited

Phoenix specialises in the provision of interactive broadcast television services in China and the rest of South East Asia. Its customers are leading broadcasters in Asia such as Hunan ETV, Hunan Satellite, Guangdong Sports Channel (China) and Media Prima (Malaysia).Phoenix embeds its staff and technology platforms within the broadcaster and from here Phoenix provides the broadcaster with a 'one stop shop' for all interactive broadcast content. This creates a very cooperative business relationship with our customers allowing us to be a part of the broadcast and scheduling process.

Phoenix generates revenues in a number of ways. The most straightforward is through the sale of its interactive media platforms to the broadcaster.Following this Phoenix receives a royalty for the services it provides based on the interactive transactions that take place as a result of the shows that are broadcast on the platform. Since becoming a part of Galleon,Phoenix has been able to widen its discussions to include the provision of content and IP to television broadcasters. This is now creating opportunities to co-produce shows with broadcasters where Phoenix receives a share of profits from all commercial activities including sponsorship and advertising.

During 2008 we anticipate that we will update the market with new broadcaster
service deals and new content deals in South East Asia with particular emphasis
on China."

The next major happening was the acquisition of Yunbo in February 2008:

"Yunbo provides the mobile billing infrastructure for the product offering that Phoenix delivers to its existing broadcast partners. The Acquisition will allow Phoenix to retain the revenues derived from the collection of the SMS and mobile phone revenues generated by Phoenix's existing activities."

"Among Yunbo's customers are major domestic PRC companies such as China Tobacco Hunan Industrial Corporation, Hunan Media Group, Shenzhen Wireless mobile Science &Tech Ltd, and Da Guo Music Recording Studio.Yunbo derives its revenues from transactions involving SMS, MMS, IVR, WAP, ring-tone & ring-back-tone, and KJAVA games.

That's the quick history guide...........................

banjomick - 02 Sep 2008 22:16 - 1291 of 1609

Super Soccer Star-I think there were 13 episodes and was broadcast on Guangdong TV Sports Channel (one of China's largest regional
broadcasters) with 50 million estimated viewers.

"The Super Soccer Star Show will provide a mix of football and entertainment as well as interactive content for viewers. The show aims to promote football skills and fitness in the teen age group and to appeal to family peak-time viewing.Soccer schools and coaches across the Guangdong province will send their most promising players to the show to participate in the selection process over the 13 episodes of the show. Contestants are eliminated during the course of the show with one of the final episodes being held in Chelsea leading to the winner being granted a place to train at the Chelsea Academy."

Galleon owns the Super Soccer Star show and format. Following the establishment of the first series it is intended to roll-out the format and the brand to other provinces in China and other countries in South East Asia.

So,potential viewing figures (Obv.just potential) for the first SSS were 13 x 50M=650 million

So,GON said they intended to roll out this format to other areas and true to their word,June 2008:

Syndication of Super Soccer Star in Shanghai region

Shanghai Sports Channel is expected to air the series later in the year. This channel reaches 11 million homes in the Shanghai region, with key programming including the English Premier League, Spanish Primera division and UEFA Champions League.

Super Soccer Star is the first of Galleon's multi-platform family entertainment shows to be launched by its Chinese operation Phoenix,a provider of interactive entertainment services to broadcasters in China and South East Asia, which was acquired by Galleon in October 2007.Phoenix has used the Super Soccer Star format to further develop its multi-platform entertainment model with a suite of new product offerings and mechanisms for both mobile and online activity.

The early success of the show in Guangdong has also instigated discussions for further series of Super Soccer Star in China with satellite broadcasters as well as a new series from Galleon's Super Sports Star franchise, focusing on a new sport. Phoenix is also in discussions with potential partners in Indonesia,Vietnam,Thailand, India and Middle East and is in final negotiations of a co-production agreement for Super Soccer Star in Malaysia with a leading terrestrial broadcaster.

So,potential viewing figures (Obv.just potential) for the Shanghai SSS for say 13 episodes is 13 x 11M=143 million

From June 2008 Interims:

Entertainment

Our first multiplatform entertainment property Super Soccer Star,an interactive family orientated football talent show, was launched in April with co-producers Guangdong Sports Channel and Chelsea Football Club. The show has been a huge success and is one of the broadcaster's top 5 rated shows. This has led to the show being syndicated by the Shanghai Sports Channel, which will take it to another 11 million viewers. We are in discussions with other national satellite broadcasters for a second series in China. We are also in final negotiations for a series in Malaysia and there are discussions underway in Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia.

banjomick - 02 Sep 2008 22:50 - 1292 of 1609

Going back to April 2008 and the AGM and this splendiferous statement:

"We are delighted to inform the market that the positive trends outlined in our
annual report have continued into the current year resulting in an encouraging
half year for the Company. Revenues for the half year 2007/2008 will exceed that
of the previous full year."

I'm tempted to C&P the whole of the AGM announcement but will just post link at bop.

Other main bits from AGM:

"Currently we provide interactive services to 5 broadcasters and we aim for this
to be at least 10 broadcasters by the end of the year."

And funnily enough there is space for two more, how good is that?

Edit-there may be 10 or more already and not added as yet but too late to count...

Edit Edit-not reached 10 yet, just looking into Vizrt from the link below (9/9/08)

http://www.phoenixglobal.tv/partner.htm

Partnership with RDF Media

Having validated the pipeline and demonstrated the flexibility of our business model we have sought access to a library of entertainment content and production expertise that we can exploit within China and SEA.To this end we are delighted to announce that Galleon has entered into an agreement to work with RDF Media to co-produce a select number of shows with leading broadcasters in China leveraging the best of RDF creative content and Galleon's business model and expertise in executing these shows in the territory.
