From memory, NW supply SEO with the basic PLA, which SEO turn into Starpol, some of which is sold back to NW(?).
QED, ELO, Status Quo.

NatureWorks only supply SEO unfortunately! Their PLA is an ingredient of Starpol I think.

baza, terry robbins answers to nw questions from bema's list.
"7) What does the recently announced tie-up with Natureworks actually mean? Unfortunately the reports on this have been translated in many ways so there are several versions floating around the net.
PLA is a component of Starpol 2000 material and we have secured an ample supply from Natureworks
8) Are we just buying material from Natureworks for use in Starpol that we sell to other companies or are we supplying Natureworks in any way?
Natureworks LLC, a Cargill company is a supplier of PLA to us. It is likely that there will be some joint promotion
9) Does SEO/Biotec intend to manufacture all Starpol or do they intend to license the IP?
Both
10) Are Stanelco producing Starpol for Natureworks?
No
11) There are various statements around regarding Starpol. It is claimed that both Natureworks PLA and Starpol are compostable. In particular I had been lead to believe that Starpol would decompose on my own compost heap within 6-8 weeks. As PLA is the main ingredient in Starpol and has since been shown to only compost in temperatures of 135 deg F or 57 deg C (well above a normal compost heap temperature) can we have clarification on the conditions required for Starpol to decompose.
This will depend upon the grade of Starpol and what it is made into. Starpol 2000 is certified to the biodegradable standard DIN CERTCO and EN: ISO: 13432. However Compostability is dependant on degrading within a given time frame and this is related to mass. A thick wedge of material will biodegrade, but may take longer than the given time to compost. Should the same mass be shredded it could compost and be certified to do so. PLA does not easily compost in a garden compost but this again is dependant on size and heat generated within the compost. In a small cool garden compost PLA will probably not biodegrade. "
at worst, news like this shows major retailers starting to show a bigger interest in bio packaging. it has been around for some years but now it is making news. it will be interesting to see what asda say and do about the starpol trials.

bhunt1910 - re 12801, good post. M&S would fit nicely into this story, with all the problems its been having cost cutting would be very popular with the shareholders at present..

I think it is good news in general - although - as Bos identifies above - not necessarily good news immediately for SEO

The Marks&Sparks deal for Natureworks - is bad news for SE0 - as it means Natureworks are well in with the UK and Euro markets - taking away the potential for SE0 -
the new is bad I hear - Starpol is failing in the Asda trials - the reason - it works sort of ok with standard heatseal - but not well at all with Greenseal - Greenseal and Starpol = bad sealing
what to do - for SEO - dump Greenseal - and push Starpol - dump Starpol - and keep trying to push the failing Greenseal - whoooops - what a problem - LOL - ramp and hype both - and now a big problem -
All IMO - DYOR !

I ask pm1 what the M&S deal had to do with SEO this is his reply.
NW and SEO make totally different products, they are working TOGETHER to get starch-based plastic onto the supermarket shelves, they are NOT in competition. Any deal for NW is a good sign that retailers are changing to starch-based plastic, but NW plastic has it's limitations, so those retailers will HAVE to buy from Stanelco for other starch-based food packaging. NW plastic breathes and is used for bread, pastries, confectionary etc. Stanelcos's plastic does not breathe and is used for hermetically sealing any food that is not affected by condensation(meat, fish, ready meals, cold meats, cheese, frozen, etc), and it is used for MAP packaging, where it is the ONLY plastic in the world that is Biodegradable AND made from sustainable resources AND seals with Greenseal without cross-linking of polymers, it is also has a better gas barrier than Polypropylene(used by WMT and other US retailers), and is cheaper than APET and PP
Ask Tony Ruane tony.ruane@asda.co.uk and you will find they do want Starpol, but there is a lot of work being done by the business leaders in assesing their requirement, then creating and signing the right deal. Just look at NW, it took a year for Wal-Mart to take PLA, but ASDA have already been testing Starpol for several months, so Starpol is already a long way into a deal making situation, and the 30 days was a gratuitous offer from Stanelco, who have a large number of other clients who want Starpol, and those deals will be along soon too

I hope hes right Driver. PM1 may have been somewhat over exuberant in his prognosis for this share, and had a rather strange way of posting, but since his passing I have noticed that much of the research he did was top notch and if his forecasts were toned down a little (or rather, a lot) he had a very good handle on this one.

Me old Mucker, bling been on again has he?
I judge from the tone it hasn't been to say "sorry, I was wrong about the crash for the third day running"
or "sorry, but that tip I gave you for SPO hasn't even covered the spread yet"
Of course he is a superlative short term trader, and i wouldn't dream of trying to point out to him that all traders get it wrong sometimes, it's just that, lucky me, I always buy for the long term so the odd little drip doesn't bother me in the slightest.
I will now bow to his better knowledge, while we all learn from the master about stock picking and people skills.

explosive,
Don't know if you are familiar with PM1. He is definitely running at about 92 pence to the , but even though he is mad as a hatter, his research and knowledge of SEO, its products and applications is second to none. Driver got a message from him saying he is very happy about the M&S deal and thinks it very positive.
Me too.
