As I understand it - there are professional rampers who are paid by some to de ramp certain shares - and their success is measured by how many times he gets a mentiuon on a certain bulletin board - they get more points if the get a mention by name.

Now I have no idea whether this is true - but just look at how much crap has been posted on this thread - just responding to Blingers and ii's posts - the majority of which has no relevance to SEO.

Let the share price do the talking - if it hits 6p - then maybe they had a point - if it hits 26p - then who cares

night night

Having reflected on the words of wisdom from those that seem to know - I have sold all my SEO shares this morning on the advice of those experts - now waiting for 6p to buy back in - it sounds very plausible to me.

I could be a very rich person by xmas

Now when will it get to 6p - cant remember if they said this week or next............

hewittalan6 - 17 Nov 2005 11:41 - 12838 of 27111

Ermmm. Blonde and stupid moment again here Baza.
Are we being straight talking or ironic, cos I am baffled!!
Alan

hewittalan6 - 17 Nov 2005 11:42 - 12839 of 27111

Only joking mate.
i recognise iirony (sic) when I see it!!

bhunt1910 - 17 Nov 2005 12:22 - 12840 of 27111

Absolutely - no way am I selling my shares - but just think of all those that might have been taken in by the lies and yarns of some of the posters.

I am still heavily into SEO - and waiting patiently - this is a long term ride - and my ISA's and PEPs are crammed full with them.

Now one of my shares (which I am not too proud of admitting owwnership of) has gone up by almost 50% this morning - CWV.

I wont tell you what I bought them at - save only to say that I have been saving them to offset my cgt

hewittalan6 - 17 Nov 2005 12:25 - 12841 of 27111

Jusy about all my shares are for the purpose of offsetting any CGT. Not that I bought them for that reason though.............................

M4rt - 17 Nov 2005 12:32 - 12842 of 27111

Slightly off topic but Im a little new to this game, is it possible to explain to me what you mean by "for the purpose of offsetting any CGT'. I know you dont pay CGT on gains made with a self select ISA but what are you offsetting it against. Also who are you using for your ISA and would you recomend them, comments from anyone else also much appreciated!

hewittalan6 - 17 Nov 2005 12:34 - 12843 of 27111

Baza is your man for that one M4rt. I just hand over ridiculous sums of money to the comapny accountant and tell him to get on with it!!!
Baza,
I hope you took heed when selling your SEO and re-invested in SPO, like the nice man told us. It would only be the second (or is that third) day of falls.

And by the way, M4rt. According to one or two strange individuals we should greet you with the words, "Welcome to the numpty club".

I have all my ISA's and Peps with Barclays Stockbrokers - but purely for the ease of seeing them all on line and being able to trade the sharesw ithin the ISA/PEP wrapper easily. I only put shares in them that I think will have big capital gain as its all CDT free.

For most other shares - you have to pay capital Gains tax on any realised gain in a tax year above 8k - (I think) this year.

My understanding is that if you sell a share and make a realised loss - then you can use that to offset any gains you have made. I think that you can carry forward Capital Losses from one year to the next - but not sure for how long.

As you can see - I am no expert - if it gets complex - talk to an accountant.

Hope that helps - I am sure you will get a more expert opinion from others.

Mad Pad - 17 Nov 2005 13:26 - 12846 of 27111

I believe capital losses can be offset against gains indefinitly but of course cant be set off losses in a business.

Taylorc - 17 Nov 2005 13:38 - 12847 of 27111

I thought this board was for adults discussing shares, but I now realise it is mainly idiots who need to get a life. most people who buy shares know there are risks, and wont be swayed either way buy some of the comments made on this board. This board has become a big joke, and personally a waste of time for any real investor. so I will leave you children to fight amongst yourselves. you obviously have nothing better to do with your lives. I personally do not have time to waste will just follow my own judgement.

M4rt - 17 Nov 2005 13:43 - 12848 of 27111

Cheers for that guys, seen as I am in no danger of breaching the 8000(ish) point i have decided to just simply learn all about CGT gradually.

I did try but it got all complicated with things like reducing CGT by keeping shares longer, then you have the complication of if you buy the same share on multiple dates which dates do they used for the CGT calculation, then theres if you make more than the 8000k limit but it is made up of shares which you pay full CGT and shares which you have held for two years so you pay 75% CGT, can you use the full CGT shares to make up the 8000k limit... ahhhhhhhh then may brain melted, infact it has just melted again trying to write this post.... i think i will fit right into the "the numpty club".
