ASOS: BUY AT LOW PRICE!!!! (ASC)

wilco99 - 12 Sep 2003 15:52

ASOS have dropped quite significantly in the past week for no particular reason and I view this as the perfect opportunity to invest as I can see them bouncing right back up to the 5.50p mark in the next 2-3 weeks. STRONG BUY!!

A mention in the weekend press that Saturday trading in the High Street is falling dramatically but Sunday online buying at sites such as ASC have continued to rise and are now double the sales of a year ago. I am holding at a loss at the moment but have confidence medium term.

EWRobson - 28 Mar 2005 22:58 - 1286 of 5941

Thanks, moneyplus: the doubling volumes matches the hits on ASCs website. Hopefully, April will see an improved trading statement; if not then, may have to wait for July.

Stockdog: OK, boys as well! But dogs, no way! Worth looking out an on-line petshop though. But its the wrong sort of 'byte' so you won't be able to transmit their bones over the internet! What a dog's life! lol!

Ray Davis and the Kinks (way before your time of course!) had it right in their song Dedicated Follower Of Fashion - they must have been singing about a faithful hound.

whooooowoyoho, yeaahhh!

Not so much before my time as beyond my ken! Therefore need the song quote, there's a good boy! Mstr Eric

There's no more to be said - it's in the title. You had to be there! But of course, if you remember it, you weren't.

But just for you, I have found the Kink's Link.

Thanks, SD for the trouble taken! But hope that that isn't ASCs style - unless of course it makes LOM!

This share price has been on a downward spiral for a while now. Anyone think there will be an upturn?

Think these are going to continue to drift south... What do you make of toa woodie.. think they look dirt cheap!! Results seemed good to me!!

inbsuk - 30 Mar 2005 20:18 - 1296 of 5941

I wouldn't touch ASOS shares yet. It may go down lot more.
25p?????

legend290782 - 30 Mar 2005 22:13 - 1297 of 5941

Inbsuk, I totally agree that it will go down. I hate to go against followers on the board but I honestly think it will.

Perhaps 40p...

We shall see. I have been watching this for a while.

EWRobson - 31 Mar 2005 00:01 - 1298 of 5941

Re question about when downward spiral will stop. Timing depends on my view on two linked factors: first, positive news from ASOS themselves; second, the closing of shorting positions, presumably led by Evil and his merry gang (note he does get things wrong and has egg all over his face over Eidos). I think there is a strong possibility that this will occur with the trading statement for the quarter just ending which should be by mid-April. From what is known, margins were down in Jan and Feb whilst Xmas stock was cleared. Whilst the new warehouse will not be in place until May, the warehouse problems should not be an issue out of peak season.

What I really object to is a young know-all like legend visiting the site just to crow over his reeling opponents! Why 40p? Inbsuk: why 25p? What does this mean for pe this year, next year - are the figures justified or credible? Or are you shorting the share and therefore trying to shout it down? Do you crawl round other sites trying to wind people up? I don't go to BNH site and say I told you so! Have you suffered any red on your holdings this week?

Bravo Eric, you obviously stayed up late enough to get the last word to quieten the noisy invaders. For us sideliners, we obviously see who the regulars are and who are the visitors, especially those who appear to have no interest in the EPIC of the thread. May is an important point in the calendar, lots of our young ASOS buyers will be wanting to get their suitcases ready (or help mum with the packing) for the forthcoming summer holidays, this being the next real trading period after the Christmas bash. Always nice to have something to look forward to.

EWRobson - 31 Mar 2005 12:11 - 1300 of 5941

Thanks, deancroft; I suspect I needed to take my ire out on someone or something and best not the dogs - what would sd say!

Nice steady trade today: no great volume but good blue balance.

legend290782 - 31 Mar 2005 13:32 - 1301 of 5941

Eric, why would i want to crow?? I tried to help you... remember at 80p when I told you I knew of sellers and the mkt cap didn't stack up to an 80p sp.

As I have always said, I hate to see people losing money. You are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to mine. I won't come on here again slating asos. I just think that given the current climate, this is a dangerous stock to hold. It is a bloodbath out there!!

If your in it for the long term then fine, but I think there are other pockets of value that can be found elsewhere: TND, XKO, TOA and of course BNH.

If you did go on BNH BB, you would be welcomed... anybody's view would be. The SP has suffered because of a lack of newsflow... no not good. But come July when they report, I am sure they will fly!!

I'm sorry you feel the way you do, I am just trying to help you.

As for shorting, not my style... you will at some stage come a cropper and I can't afford the consequences!! At least if you buy and hold, you can ride out the troughs (like bnh now)and sell at your target price. I bought most of my bnh at 61p.. will be a long time before I lose out on these!!

Send me your e-mail address and I will e-mail you my phone number.

eric dont take what others post to heart you have faith the same as me in the long term for this stock who cares what they post, cheers woodie keep smiling summer is coming

EWRobson - 31 Mar 2005 23:27 - 1303 of 5941

Thanks for the plus Woodie and the minus Legend - they proably cancel out to the status quo.

Legend: the shorting comment didn't refer to you. First, I did completely sell out my ASC holdings in the 70s. I have bought back in and am showing a loss. That's not a problem as its a medium, term position; say this year. The purchases were made on an objective analysis of the fundamentals. In my view, the price has fallen below the real value because of a concentrated shorting campaign. I actually don't have a problem with that and I accept I didn't take the existance of such a campaign seriously enough. However, that campaign will be over on or about the time of positive newsflow; I reckon that there is a better than evens chance that that will be during April. My objection is to the quotation of figures without any justification. Your 40p could happen (your friend's figure could not) but it needs to be justified. What does it mean in terms of projected pe's, etc. An argument on this basis can be fruitful. I accept that the market spends more time looking at the charts than the fundamentals, but you can't divorce them. At 80p, the sp had got ahead of itself with the benefit of hindsight, i.e. the warehousing problems. There was a clue to these in the Janaury trading statement. It may well be that Evil picked these up (I wasn't following his comments then) but they weren't picked up by the market, e.g. Lemminginvestor or John Marshall.

A tip in making up, perhaps two: ones you know well I believe; SEO and CFP. In particular, do read my post on SEO as the share is still a multi-bagger from here and should move significantly N in April. CFP is somewhat more speculative - the posts give the story.

Eric, as ever buy the company not the share. It's a good company with strong sales and a good team. When they have upgraded their logistics they will return to the expected level of growing profitability.

It's PE is 28.65 this year forecast to fall to 17.10 next year and 12.93 the year after with a PEG 2006 of .25 and PEG 2007 of .40. Let's assume PEG .50 for a medium term steady growth share with an enormous market share available to capture over the next 5 years. That suggests a 2006 PE of 17.1 X .50/.25 = 34 which in turn suggests an SP of double where we are now - which is your 1.00 by Xmas. QED.

This is fundamental analysis (which however wrong, is better than no analysis at all, because at least it's a base line plan from which to observe, measure and react to actual events as they occur). Guessing at where the price might be from a range of peesimistic to optimistic outlook onlife is fun, but not real in the end.

If we fall to 40p somewhere unpredictable between here and then, I wouldn't be a bit surprised, but my debit card would certainly react decisively!
