rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.
for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ
for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

Apple takes wraps off cheaper, multi-hued iPhone 5C
CUPERTINO, California | Tue Sep 10, 2013 8:04pm BST
(Reuters) - Apple Inc introduced two new iPhones on Tuesday, including an "iPhone 5C" that comes in five colours and starts at $99, priced to bring one of the industry's costliest smartphones within reach of the masses in poorer emerging markets.
The pricier "5S" also comes in three colours - gray, silver and gold - and sports expected improvements in processor speed and iOS7 software features along with a fingerprint-scanner that can unlock the phone with just a touch.

Yeah I know, APPL is a monster, get it wrong and it can quickly cost you dearly... Its one of my favourite trades though as I've made a nice bundle trading it.

The annoying thing is that it was probably one of the most obvious trades recently - well done if you were short.

Unfortunatly I wasn't, not had a position in AAPL for a few weeks now. Facebook is at a high I read so might have to investigate a short play there.

Cynic, the eight stocks in the FTSE 350 Household Goods sector [NMX3720] are-
Barratt Developments [BDEV] Persimmon [PSN] Bellway [BWY] Reckitt Benckiser Group [RB.] Berkeley Group Holdings (The) [BKG] Redrow [RDW] Bovis Homes Group [BVS] Taylor Wimpey [TW.].
I assume your expecting a rally in these shares to think that the sector will climb further??

i think the housing market has a lot of puff in it, albeit or indeed because it's starting from a horrible place, and that is also the feedback i get from a couple of estate agents i talk to
