FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

cynic - 17 Sep 2013 14:00 - 12943 of 21973

i sold one of my NMX3720 positions this morning to lock in a decent profit ...... my greed is now tempting me to buy at it back

cynic - 17 Sep 2013 16:48 - 12944 of 21973

have now banked the profits on a dow and a ftse long position .... merely a bit of a precautionary move against the expected/usual friday sell-off!

halifax - 17 Sep 2013 16:49 - 12945 of 21973

Friday is quadruple witching day!

skinny - 17 Sep 2013 16:54 - 12946 of 21973

Double Witchings, Triple Witchings and Werewolves

cynic - 17 Sep 2013 16:55 - 12947 of 21973

that'll be exciting and unpredictable then :-)

skinny - 17 Sep 2013 18:08 - 12948 of 21973

These days its only worth putting in wide limits on the indexes.

cynic - 17 Sep 2013 18:38 - 12949 of 21973

i don't put any

skinny - 17 Sep 2013 18:41 - 12950 of 21973

I do :-)

cynic - 18 Sep 2013 08:46 - 12951 of 21973

NMX 3720
succumbed to "itchy finger" and bought back that contract at 10307 with the intent of trading it - profitably i hope - during the course of the day

Shortie - 18 Sep 2013 11:22 - 12952 of 21973

DOW - I'm now running short.

Picked up a few UU. for the ISA this morning

cynic - 18 Sep 2013 17:02 - 12954 of 21973

i could easily be wrong, but ftse at 6554 looks like a modest support level ..... provided the dow (in the persona of MrB) doesn't scare us all, then i would favour the likelihood of a rise tomorrow - more likely starting this evening on the back of the dow

a good firm equivocal prediction don't you think? :-)

Seymour Clearly - 18 Sep 2013 17:29 - 12955 of 21973

I agree. I think. Possibly. :-)

cynic - 18 Sep 2013 20:00 - 12956 of 21973

did i make a good call or what :-)) ?
dow currently +170 and ftse +80

Seymour Clearly - 18 Sep 2013 20:01 - 12957 of 21973

I knew it would. :-)

skinny - 18 Sep 2013 20:22 - 12958 of 21973

Short @6,633

cynic - 18 Sep 2013 20:36 - 12959 of 21973

as for me, have just closed all dow/ftse except one small long position in both

hilary - 19 Sep 2013 08:21 - 12960 of 21973

1-0 to the machines.

It was all over in 1/1000th of a second!

skinny - 19 Sep 2013 08:24 - 12961 of 21973

I can't think what you are suggesting!
