Eurotunnel worth buying today? (ETL)

javidshaik - 15 Oct 2003 09:34

Looking at Eurotunnel this morning and am considering buying as they have started rising but I am worried about their recent news. Could I please get some views on this stock?

One suicide bomber

Thanks LW

ajren, the fire in the tunnel was far more devastating than what a bomber could do & the tunnel withstood that.

It would take a nuke to let the water in.

1 tunnel was out of action for a while & both tunnels were soon up & running again.

What caused most delays were the arguments about firefighting procedures.

Price (& orders) have improved on yesterday if you are looking to buy!

Will go lower for a while yet I think.

Until the legal stuff in France is over.

I think I said something simular the last time it went down - and it went back up! I try to learn for my actions! Picked a few up earlier, my breakeven is 48.75p will take profit about 55p.

Anyone got any thoughts on this one now? I have just gone in at 38.75p. I'm hoping that is ready to start climbing back off the bottom, seems a fair risk at this price.

little woman - 29 Dec 2003 18:23 - 19 of 29

I ended up selling at I think just over 51p before the latest fall (It kept going to 51p and then droped back over & over, and I got fed up watching it - and a profit is a profit!).

Bought a small amount today at 38.75 for my medium term portfolio as you say - pretty cheap!

Only problem with this being "pretty cheap" is a small matter of 7.1bn debt. Not sure what the interest component details are on the various government loans and bonds that have been issued to fund the company but one thing is for sure, this time next year interest rates will be higher than today and debt repayments will be put under pressure as a result. Don't get caught out thinking we have a bargain on our hands. Fundamentals of this company remain pretty dire in the medium term. For gamblers only but good luck if you are long.

only a small amount - small enough to lose and it won't make a difference!

daveyb - 30 Dec 2003 08:28 - 22 of 29

ETL chart shows no buy signal. Next support at 30p I reckon.

little woman,

Granted, their debt is not a record holder but it is still scarily high given that forecasted income and traffic levels have never materialised - ever (please check this stat, it is very important when considering the management team of ETL and hence the viability of this company)!

Net interest payment for 2002 was 320m whilst they only turned over 570m during the same period, turnover has been on a *general* down trend for quite a while or at least flat. Does this not ring alarm bells with interest rates on the up?

Good luck.

I've done really well over the years with companies like ETL (and have done very well this year already with this particular share). There so many quoted companies that we should leave well alone, if you go by the fundamentals - but sometimes the share prices don't follow sound reasoning. They are many that believe in ETL and will buy the share. My target price is 42.5p to sell. If I'm lucky (yes a lot of it is luck!) it'll hit that by accident!

Good news in making a turn from ETL and long may this continue.

roma - 02 Jan 2004 14:54 - 26 of 29

Just bailed out at 44.5p, could't get acceptance at 45p, still nice little profit of 232.00 in couple of days, pity I didn't go with my first intinct and buy 10,000 instead of 5,000. (Why are we always wiser after the event?).

little woman - 02 Jan 2004 14:56 - 27 of 29

I did the same, but at the end of the day a profit is a profit, especially welcome in only a few days!

roma - 19 Jan 2004 16:25 - 28 of 29

Eurotunnel to report disappointing revenue and traffic figures tomorrow (tues).

Shwty - 28 Jan 2004 12:23 - 29 of 29

What sort of difference do you think a win or lose by the rebel shareholders concerned who are wanting management change might make to this share price's direction.
