STANELCO Develop Biodegradable Air-Pillow Packaging System

The introduction of air-pillow packaging systems was one of those simple, yet brilliant ideas, offering lightweight, cost effective protection to the pack contents. But the one drawback has always been the pressures of environmental legislation which in todays market is becoming more and more of an issue. Buyers are becoming increasingly aware of these issues and the cost implications can no longer be put to one side.

Always striving for cleaner, safer, more innovative products, Stanelco Plc has developed a biodegradable material that elegantly overcomes these issues.

Made from a unique starch blend, this new material can be used in air-pillow envelope packs and is entirely biodegradable. It is compostable and water soluble, removing the current requirement to dispose of air-pillow envelope packs the old-fashioned way in landfills or incinerators!

Compared with traditional plastic bubble packaging materials such as HDPE, LDPE and polypropylene Stanelcos new material is far less abrasive, has greater barrier properties and retains the air in the pockets much longer.

The cost is becoming comparable to the costs of conventional packaging making it highly competitive in fact, Stanelco predicts that the market the world over will have little choice but to use this type of product in the coming years.

Stanelco CEO Ian Balchin says "now consumers can safely discard unwanted packaging made from Stanelco's materials on their compost heaps, in their washing machines or dishwashers. With Stanelco's low cost packaging materials now available industries and governments no longer have the excuse that green packaging is not economical."

hmmmm
i own shares in seo AND bprg. does that mean im in a win/win situation or a lose/lose situation?

TheFrenchConnection - 29 Aug 2004 11:16 - 17 of 21

Mes amities . Although l am a holder, a substantial holder, in both SEO and BPRG it was not a case of hedging my bets regarding the litigation between the respective parties lt was juste the way things panned out .Both were bought strictly on merit . [ Especially BPRG in the light of both its manifestly diverse list of products and the scandelous Berlin /Breder shorting fiasco/scandle } and SEO on the back of its RF tecnology which i immediately saw as a potential tetra pak in the making. ln short ; A real company maker. Also from a chartist viewpoint it had found prolonged support at the 3,75p level . Recently both companies have made major announcements, via, various news agencies, to the market, regarding various contacts and deals -BPRG with Micam , Colgate, and l am led to believe an announcement deal from pharma giant Wyeth is impending .Converesely earliar this year SEO announced 90 day trials with Reckitt Bannister, and more recently potentially fiscally rewarding deals with Robert Reiser, and a NON exclusive agreement with Sainsury with a litter of other other interested parties such as Mcdonlads and Burger King and other supermarkets/retailers. Consequently all seemed rosy in the houses of BPRG and SEO .However on thursday evening/ friday morning rumours gathered apace in the city that BPRG had indeed proven its case of infringement of patent against SEO ;Perhaps explaining why BPRG suddenly leapt from an intraday low of 95p to 107p on Friday. However SEO remain bullish and the spokesperson i spoke to assured me it was mere "specualtion" "premature " and that a a decision was not expected to be made until monday ... But with BPRG costs having been fully insured regarding litigation ,and thier underwriters only to happy to back them i feel if the rumour is true SEO are facing a legal bill of over 3 million and furthermore PUNITIVE damages ,,,,,, Also i dont believe Stanalco CEO lan Balchin recently offloaded 6 million shares of a 7.5 million option pick up earliar this month on the stated grounds of tax ,,,,,l am a resource analyist and this sector is not one i feel qualified , But those i know who do scrutinize biotec stock are confident that Stanelco { with so many irons in the fire} could cope with the implications of losing such a case, and many suggested the loss was already factored into the s/p ,,,,l am not so sure ,,,,,Comments anyone ,,,>? ,,,bonne chance !! sante J,,,,

thanks
that will enable me to sleep easy...........LOL

maybe they will come to an amicable agreement

AdieH - 29 Aug 2004 17:54 - 19 of 21

NO Chance it's gone to far and cost too much for both parties, lucky both have
other technology so it should affect either company in the long term but might in short term. DYOR.

TheFrenchConnection - 29 Aug 2004 20:12 - 20 of 21

Amities ,,l somewhat agree Adie; but dont entirely discount the idea of a last minute comprimise. lt happened with both ARX and Watermark reaching agreement after engaging in serious legal mud slinging for months ,,, .Mind you some comprimise ! ,,lol Arx surrendered 7.5% of its stock to Watermark !! ASSUMING SEO have lost the case then their backs are to the wall; and i think its time to stop prevaricating, and start talking awarding BPRG generous royalties ,,,,,From the BPRG viewpoint, that would probbly suit them better than trying to extract cash from a company hardly reknowned for cash generation. ,,,,YET !!! ,,,But i know many traders/ brokers/hi worth individuals who find SEO extremely attactive and whose only concern is this blasted litigation ...Without such baggage i think SEO would have a s/p nearer 10p-12p ..

I too work in the packaging industry as a Technical Sales Manager for a large packaging Company. There is much excitement regarding the technology for sealing lidding material using Radio Waves, the development could see a massive saving on sealing webs for packers. I already have a substantial number of shares but will be buying more. The Bio-Progress case should have no bearing on share performance if Stanelco loses but will be an added bonus if they win.
