Desire Petroleum are drilling in Falklands (DES)

markymar - 03 Dec 2003 11:36

free hit countersDesire Petroleum

<>Desire Petroleum plc (Desire) is a UK company listed on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) dedicated to exploring for oil and gas in the North Falkland Basin.

Desire has recently completed a 6 well exploration programme. The Liz well encountered dry gas and gas condensate at 2 separate levels while other wells recorded shows.
Together with the Rockhopper Exploration Sea Lion oil discovery in the licence to the north, these wells have provided significant encouragement for the potential of the North Falkland Basin. The oil at Sea Lion is of particular interest as this has demonstrated that oil is trapped in potentially significant quantities in a fan sandstone on the east flank of the basin. It is believed that over 50% of this east flank play fairway is on Desire operated acreage.

Desire has now completed new 3D seismic acquisition which provides coverage over the east flank play, Ann, Pam and Helen prospects. The results from fast-track processing of priority areas are provided in the 2011 CPR. A farm-out to Rockhopper has been announced. The revised equities are shown on the licence map (subject to regulatory approval and completion of the farm-in well).

Hi all

Welcome back berlingo

Hi aur

The chart I have posted has pre set lines, but as lynnzal says this is normaly taken from the price low. The charts on moneyam don't allow me to choose the price low, so I have had to use the pre set range. This appears to choose the price low of the last move, which started at 0.2800p & the high of 0.7100p. The pre set value is 100, which I have taken to be 100% of that range.

Well a good rise today from DES with little volume. DES has a falling resistance line which is at about 0.3500p, which also has a falling window at about the same price area. It will be good for DES to clear this price, otherwise we may see consolidation for a while.

Thanks for the update Eddie. Keep up the good work.

eddieshare - 01 Jun 2005 21:00 - 1306 of 6492

Hi all

Thanks lynnzal.

I'll not bother with a chart as there is one on the board still.

Another up day for DES, only a small rise though. The candle we have today is a hanging man. (Not the traditional hanging man though, as this usualy appears in an up trend). The candle may still have bearish implications. This is because the bears managed to push the price down during the days trading. We will have to see tomorrows trading to confirm if the candle is bearish. If DES closes bellow 0.3300p the candle will be considered bearish. If todays late rally continues, we should see a higher close. The support is still at the hammer date 25/05/05 (0.2850p). To break the falling resistance line (about 0.3500p) is what is needed to take DES on a bull run.

Eddie-thanks for fibonacci info

regards

fwiw,i read with interest today that regal petroleum managed to attain a valuation of about 600m when it managed to convince institutions and private investors that its field in greece held 1bn barrels with 200 million barrels recoverable.

of course we now know that they have spectacularly over promised and underdelivered, but, nevertheless,I find those numbers quite interesting.

I wonder what drama could unfold next year in the falklands,if desire can actually deliver-could des be worth 2bn one day?

markymar - 02 Jun 2005 09:57 - 1308 of 6492

Aur i read a bit in the Sun yesterday and Regal had a high of 5 so you can imagine what Desire share price will go to when they do go to drill.

Even before the drill bit goes in to the multi targets i expect at least 2 a share......a ramp maybe i dont think on my part hence have bucket load.

There is not a share on the AIM with as much upside towards the end of this year.

HUSTLER - 02 Jun 2005 11:48 - 1309 of 6492

Agree all the way marky.
The Regal thing however will have a dampening effect on
the sector in general for a while, but as we know
Des is now a waiting game we know it is going to
be next year befor we drill. News of a rig contract
and firming of drill date is the next news we can expect,
when this arrives hope in the not to distant future
the buying frenzy should begin. 2.00 before drilling
why not, will be very volitile as drilling starts who
knows the final sp we all hope a lot higher than 2.00
in the meantime should treat this as a buying opportunity
in the 28 - 40p range it won't last for long.
All the best to everyone on board

Hi All
Nice rise up today.Get those charts out Eddie. Is it the start of a bull run as we have reached the crucial 35p mark today?

eddieshare - 02 Jun 2005 18:39 - 1311 of 6492

Hi all

Thanks to all the posters.

Looks like DES had a great days trading, a good increase. DES has gone above the 20 day moving average, moved up through the falling window, moved above the falling resistance line. These are great indicators of a bull run. DES has only been above the falling resistance once since the start of the down trend. The date 09/03/05 price 0.5700p, to have moved above this resistance line is great. Not to put a damper on things we will still have to watch out for the bears, because DES only held above the line for one day. So looking forward to tomorrow we need DES to move up again, the further away we move from the falling resistance the better. A good strong candle today! British bulls should have DES on a buy today.

Good call Eddie
British Bulls
have called Desire a - 5 Star Buy Confirmed tonight,
the only one on the whole market out of 4000 odd companies.
There are no - 4 star buy confirmed
and only 3 - 3 star confirmed.
I dont usually give the British Bulls site much credit
but given the above it does seem very positive,
lets hope the sp goes up again tomorrow in support.
Keep the good work up eddie very appreciated.
All the best

eddieshare - 03 Jun 2005 21:29 - 1313 of 6492

Hi all

Thanks HUSTLER.

Well another move up today with increased volume. It's clear the bears are still about, the bulls just managed to keep DES on the + side. Todays candle therfore has some bearishnes (thin line on top of the real body). The good news is DES has stayed above the falling resistance line for day 2. The falling resistance line will be at about 0.3400p by Monday. This means if DES gets any more bearishness it will need to stay above 0.3400p, to stay above the falling resistance. As the week goes on the resistance line will fall lower, by Friday it will be at 0.3200p. DES is also now sat well above the 20 day moving average & hasn't been there since 10/03/05. All being well we should be on the bull run.

Exploring Deep Water Fans in Falklands Basins

Phil Richards1, Ian Duncan2, Colin Phipps3, Jan Grzywacz4, and Giles Pickering4. Six wells were drilled in the North Falkland Basin in 1998. Live oil was recovered at surface, but the only tested play exhibited difficulties of charge caused by poor migration into the targeted reservoir interval, which lies above the regional seal. Recent exploration has focussed on identifying reservoir systems directly connected with the mature source rock zone. New 3D data has identified several fan systems prograding off the adjacent Palaeozoic platform, bringing clean sands into direct contact with mature source rocks. The fans are fed by major feeder channels and display numerous DHIs. They are currently located in shallow water (1000m. These early Cretaceous marine fan systems provide one of the many targets available for drilling in this totally untested basin.

Analogues for both sets of fan systems are provided from several producing fields from different mature oil provinces, highlighting the potential to be tested in these Falklands fans.

The British company Desire Petroleum will initiate in 2006 works of prospection of oil in the Falklands Islands, in the South Atlantic, with a USS investment 40 million, informed the Argentine press yesterday. The works of oil search offshore will be carried through in three wells located to the North of the Falklands islands, under British domain, but whose sovereignty is asked for by Argentina and was reason of a war in 1982.

Of London, the president of Desire Petroleum, Colin Phipps, said to the periodical "Clar", of Buenos Aires, that the three-dimensional seismic studies make to foresee that in this zone it at least has "1 billion of barrels of oil". The periodic Argentine publishes that if this amount of oil will be found, with a horizon of reserve of 25 the 30 years, the inhabitants of the annual islands could get royalties of USS 182 million.

By being under British domain, the licenses for prospection and exploration of oil are granted by the Executive of the archipelago of the Falklands (Falkland, for the British), with the approval of the Joined Kingdom. It has seven years, four company British had searched, without success, oil in a ray of 200 miles (322 kilometers) around of the islands, and the low prices of the oil had discouraged the continuation of the prospection.

But now, with the barrel of oil almost USS 50, the petroliferous ones had retaken its interest in the search. Beyond the Desire, the Falkland Islands Oil & Gas Limited and the Borders and Southern will explore from 2007.

Argentina and the Joined Kingdom if had faced in 1982 for the sovereignty of the Falklands, busy for the British since 1833, in a war that lasted 74 days and where 649 Argentines had died and 272 British. (EFE)

Repsol YPF, Enarsa to Invest US$129mn in Exploration Offshore Argentina
Business News Americas (BNamericas.com) 6/3/2005
URL: http://www.rigzone.com/news/article.asp?a_id=22949
Spanish oil company Repsol YPF (NYSE: REP) plans to invest US$129mn in seismic studies and drilling in offshore Argentina in partnership with state oil company Enarsa, Repsol YPF chairman Antonio Brufau announced.

Brufau made the comments after meeting with Argentina's President Ntor Kirchner to present the company's 2005-2009 investment plan, which includes US$6.5bn in Argentina.

Offshore exploration in Argentina "is one of our great opportunities, we believe there is still gas and liquids to be found in Argentina, but our main interest is to collaborate with Enarsa," Brufau told reporters.

If the seismic and drilling is successful investment could be "very much higher" than the US$129mn budgeted for the initial exploration program, he added.

Enarsa was created by the Argentine government in 2004 to increase the state's presence in the hydrocarbons sector and monitor the oil and gas activities of foreign companies in the country. The company owns all the rights to offshore exploration in Argentine waters

PRESS RELEASE
6 JUNE 2005
Rockhopper Exploration awarded licences in North Falkland Basin
Rockhopper Exploration Limited has announced that it has been awarded two licences
offshore the Falkland Islands, adding 1,620 square kilometres to its portfolio in the
region.
The licences, PLO32 and PLO33, are located in the North Falkland Basin and were
formerly held by Shell. A 3D seismic survey and two-well drilling programme were
conducted on the acreage during the 1990s, with oil and gas shows in one well and live
oil shows at the surface in the other neither well was tested. Rockhopper plans to
conduct an extensive 3D seismic survey over the acreage during the next two years.
Pierre Jungels, Executive Chairman, commented: We are pleased to have continued to
grow our portfolio and broaden the number of potential drilling opportunities for the
company. This is very different acreage to our existing licences in terms of play types
and the stage of exploration the licence has reached. We are in discussion with a
number of seismic contractors about beginning work on our existing acreage and are
excited about the drilling programme we are undertaking with Desire. We believe that
both the prospectivity of the acreage we hold and the highly favourable fiscal regime in
place in the Islands will enable us to create significant value for our investors.

Hi all

Thanks for all the postings. Much appreciated.

DES had a small move down today, volume not very high, more sells than buys unfortunatly. The candle has a small red body which does have some bearish implications. Tomorrows candle may indicate which direction DES will move next. DES could consolidate at this level for a while. DES is still above the falling resistance line, for the third day. The bulls will need to respond to any more selling or risk falling below the resistance line. Lets hope for a bull day tomorrow !
