Certainly does ..... even Les Ross is due back on the airwaves next week .... this time with Big City Radio....

.... he's a legend of Birmingham radio - from the days when commercial radio was locally owned, professionally managed by broadcasters not accountants, and provided something it doesn't do now (entertainment) ....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Ross

he even bought the main line locomotive that already carried his name ....

..... a professional ethical radio presenter and a railway buff combined .... can't be bad!

Not really up with local media, sounds an interesting character though.. I'll have to tune in some time.

Oh, dear ....

Dubai shares continue to fall on debt concerns ....

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8400868.stm
The Dubai index has now fallen by more than 20% since Dubai World's debt extension request.

So no happy landings ....

Coventry Airport has been closed due to financial difficulties.

not a great surprise ...

Workers at crisis-torn National Express were dealt a savage pre-Christmas blow with up to 200 jobs facing the axe, it was revealed today.
The majority of the jobs at risk are based in Birmingham, including posts at the transport giants head office at Five Ways, and at its bus and coach division.

but Rotala seems to be progressing well:
To date Rotala has acquired the following companies or businesses in the locations designated:
■Flights Hallmark and Flights Corporate Transfers (Birmingham)
■Zaks Bus & Coach Services (Birmingham)
■Birmingham Motor Traction (Birmingham)
■Diamond Bus Company (Birmingham)
■North Birmingham Busways (Birmingham)

... and back to medicinal matters ...

Beer-drinking men may be reducing their chances of developing prostate cancer with every pint, tests by scientists have revealed.

... and it is also confirmed that you really can see stars after drinking a few bottles ...

A new beer has been launched to celebrate the announcement of the UK's first official Dark Sky Park.

If you find yourself in Copenhagen, I can recommend this one: http://noerrebrobryghus.dk/116/

The Global Ale in particular.

.... Stan and Fred (and anyone else reading this) .... hope you have a good festive period and your journies do not involve Eurostar .... and be careful on the beach:

More than 6,000 people have been stopped by the police for offences on Dubai's beaches, records show. Infractions range from ogling women, to kissing, to people swimming fully clothed or in their underwear.

.... and don't get dehydrated:

Follow Jeff on his visits to the great breweries of the world, learn about the finest beers, find recommendations for the best pubs and bars, meet fascinating people involved in the business, have facts and figures at your fingertips.

Have a good one ....

Goodbye to 2009
Good Luck in 2010
Happy New Year ....

.... another 'hidden' tax being introduced:
ANYONE in Birmingham who places a skip on the road outside their house while carrying out work will soon have to buy a 10 permit.
http://www.birminghammail.net/news/top-stories/2009/12/31/permit-of-10-to-keep-a-skip-outside-birmingham-homes-97319-25498599/
( .... all it needs now is for those awfully nice TV Licensing people at Capita Business Services to require you to have an additional TV licence for the skip should you dispose of any rf apparatus in to it ..... )

.... but at least bus fares are staying the same:
National Express West Midlands has announced that current bus fares will be frozen for the foreseeable future.
http://www.travelwm.co.uk/news/Busfaresfrozeninto2010/615/

.... and if you need any info from the internet during 2010 then Groovle it:
A Canadian company behind a search engine called Groovle.com has won a case filed against it by online search giant Google.

WEST Midland rail passengers returning to work in the New Year face delays and disruption on Britains busiest rail route.

http://www.birminghampost.net/news/west-midlands-news/2009/12/28/virgin-booking-office-railway-staff-set-to-strike-97319-25478014/

Union leader Gerry Doherty said his members were striking to defend their jobs and the booking windows service to passengers.
Virgin are just the latest of the privately owned rail companies to cut back on customer services to boost their bottom line during the recession.
We highlighted last week what it meant to passengers at one station Coventry where they had to wait 30 minutes in a 100-metre long queue just to buy a ticket. Well, that will start happening right along this busy line if management get away with these latest cutbacks.

Wonder what next .... they'll not want the high speed train proposal to proceed....

Virgin Trains warned a Commons inquiry this month that there was little point building high speed rail lines between Birmingham and London, because conventional lines could be upgraded to reduce journey times below an hour.

Hope all got home Ok last night,

Nice little bunker.

Have to have a look at the pictures.

The Company I was rabbiting on about was BTR. The warrants were volatile, but a long time dead.

Have a look at EZJ's chart and TW. jumped to-day before results.

Interesting.

We talked about another meet in 4 weeks. Checked with SWMBO. and it seems good.

Regards

Stan - 02 Mar 2010 20:39 - 1331 of 1427

Yes, Just got in -):

Easter at the end of the month so a meet up probably after.

What is the feeling on the last pub?

Fred1new - 03 Mar 2010 10:10 - 1332 of 1427

Stan,

Not too bad!

Easy to access and reasonably quiet.

What pleases me, is being able to leave a pub with the smell of beer on me and not the stench of tobacco smoke.

Look forward.

Stan - 03 Mar 2010 10:13 - 1333 of 1427

Indeed.
