Only over the telephone - they have stopped dealing on line because MM's have removed them from their automated system.

I can still buy - but only at telephone commissionn rates - rather than the online rates of 7.50

bhunt1910 - 01 Dec 2005 14:06 - 13174 of 27111

So biscuit - can you still get an online quote for 50,000 shares - who are you with please?

I just went online chaps and i couldn't buy (i'm just trying it on your behalf) ,this only happens usually when the SP is moving fast either way ,and the MM's stop you dealing electronically ,,,this ia strange as it's not a busy day for SEO so far ..

bhunt1910 - 01 Dec 2005 14:17 - 13177 of 27111

......Jimmy thats my worry

Now just maybe - just maybe there is a businesswire announcement being timed for release to the US Market at 8.30 (2.30 our time). Someone said that MM's get RNS's 1 hour before official release. No idea if this is true - and maybe I am clutching at straws - but could that be an explanation - that a business wire is due for release which will cause panic or joy and ...and....

ok - I am clutching at straws - but I cant see a logical explanation at the moment.

Maybe BSL has a system problem?

jimmy b - 01 Dec 2005 14:20 - 13179 of 27111

Just phoned up Barclays ,,they couldn't give me a reason either ,,MM's ,they are a law unto themselves ...

garyble - 01 Dec 2005 14:29 - 13180 of 27111

Does the 1st of the month play any part in this dip?

I believe so.

Happy to hold.

Biscuit - 01 Dec 2005 14:35 - 13181 of 27111

Well they're only down .25 yet some people seem to be making a big deal of it, I tend to suspect some people may be short that's why there's a lot of rot been talked on here again.

hewittalan6 - 01 Dec 2005 14:39 - 13182 of 27111

Halifax will let me sell for 12.77, but will not allow me to buy!!

garyble - 01 Dec 2005 14:43 - 13183 of 27111

Must be back on as I can by on the Halifax site.

hewittalan6 - 01 Dec 2005 14:50 - 13184 of 27111

Panic over.
The booboys will have a field day tonight though. Glad I have squelched the worst offenders so I don't have to read their monotonous drivel and self congratulation. Though for at least one of them self flagellation springs to mind.

Baza and others,

I do my (non-SIPP) SEO dealing through BSL.

Just tested it - no problem either buying or selling.

If you tried to sell using 'quote and deal, there is a limit. I just tried 50,000 shares - no problem.

P.S. I notice the website interface (BSL) ha a new appearance - maybe it was something to do with them updating the site?

jimward9 - 01 Dec 2005 15:26 - 13186 of 27111

Just topped up with T D Waterhouse 12.95p no problem

driver - 01 Dec 2005 15:30 - 13187 of 27111

Yes that looks like that was the problem the website interface has changed in the last 2 hours.

bhunt1910 - 01 Dec 2005 16:16 - 13188 of 27111

I am back on now

No it was not a system problem as I could trade other shares - the MM's simply withdrew for an hour or so. I spoke to Barclays and they said no system problem - simply MM's withdrew from automayed system - but ok now

greekman - 01 Dec 2005 16:17 - 13189 of 27111

Hewittalan6, ( Al ).

Sorry did not see your proper name, will do so in future.

Cheers Dave.

hewittalan6 - 01 Dec 2005 16:19 - 13190 of 27111

Which leads to the question of why?
I can only assume that for that 1 hour the MM's wanted to take total control of the sp. Were they expecting something that didn't happen or was there a strange trade going on.
The post 4.30pm trades may be interesting.
Alan

bhunt1910 - 01 Dec 2005 16:20 - 13191 of 27111

Unless it was that 400,000 sale that spooked them

greekman - 01 Dec 2005 16:37 - 13192 of 27111

An unusual amount of broker to broker trades today. Any significance???
