How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Bakko

be careful - they were only 1.05 at the start of the match so there will be very little upside if any

bakko - 25 Feb 2005 14:39 - 1345 of 10502

Thanks Fundy,

Luckily, I managed to lay off at 1.01 so only looking for a couple of ticks

chartist2004 - 25 Feb 2005 14:40 - 1346 of 10502

Scrip - Have you any stats on footie 'correct score' odds. I've been doing some back testing over last week ref 0-0 0-1 1-0 1-1 score. I note with great interest how dramaticly the odds fall as the game progresses, ie the man/u v milan game, at ok the 0-0 odds were 7.8/8.2 after 75 mins with no score the odds were down to 1.65/1.8.(some profit!) (some risk also!) I've concluded that the best 'bet' is to back the 1-1 score n green up after the 1st goal is scored, for an approx 90% profit! even if no goal is scored the odds still fall! (all imho - dyor)...
Good luck if your on the horses this pm......

Miss Academy a beautiful drifter in the 3.10 at Warwick - got 32 ticks - my best ever i think

Scripophilist - 25 Feb 2005 15:13 - 1348 of 10502

I was on that too Fundy. Was listening to various commentary and they were tipping New Rock which probably kicked off the drift.

Scripophilist - 25 Feb 2005 15:14 - 1349 of 10502

Miss Academy almost did it, but nipped at the post by.... New Rock. Well not quite at the post but a fall anyhow.

chartist,

I haven't checked, but I would have thought that if 1-1 is priced as one of the most likely outcomes and a goal is scored very quickly after kick off then the 1-1 odds would go up. Also if one team appears very dominate then the 1-1 odds could also go up. I'm not saying there isn't money to be made, I'm just saying it might not be as profitable as it first appears.

"Scrip - Have you any stats on footie 'correct score' odds"

As those at the course yesterday could testify, I am Mr Sad when it comes to football stats. I can work out what would happen but the liquidty on the correct score market is not high enough for me to warrant a strategy there yet. So I haven't looked. I may have a nose later after the horses.

chartist2004 - 25 Feb 2005 15:46 - 1352 of 10502

TPO - Thanks for your input, I have the odds for the Barcelona v Chelsea game, at ko the 1-1 odds were 7.8/8, after Chelsea went 1 up the 1-1 went down to 4.2/4.3 @ 20:24, n by @ 21:16 down to 2.28/2.3 when score 1-1. worth watching!

Fundamentalist - 25 Feb 2005 15:49 - 1353 of 10502

3.50 at Wolverhampton - what a great race to trade - the 3 principals all had large moves one way or other (caught 2 of 3)

Scripophilist - 25 Feb 2005 16:03 - 1354 of 10502

"after Chelsea went 1 up the 1-1 went down to 4.2/4.3"

You would expect that because they were the away team. It was also expected to be a low scoring match.

chartist2004 - 25 Feb 2005 16:07 - 1355 of 10502

Scrip - Mr Sad! as we say 'up north' theres nowt wrong with makin brass from footie stats. If you could have a look later that would be great, off to work now will look in as 4/5am! tia...

TPO - 25 Feb 2005 16:12 - 1356 of 10502

Just looking at the 16:15 odds. Is Bob Bob Bobbin a motorbike or is it that all the other horses have got three legs ?

Blondie - 25 Feb 2005 16:28 - 1357 of 10502

Scrip's,

Should of told ya i was Met Police before i met you at the seminar
then i could of told you all about Vice in exchange for extra tuition!!! :-}

Scripophilist - 25 Feb 2005 16:36 - 1358 of 10502

Bob Bob Bobbin almost lost it there. Hilarious, Jockey looking over the wrong shoulder as the nearest horse was racing up the other side. Won it, but only just. Coudln't stop laughing. The look on his face!

Bones - 25 Feb 2005 16:36 - 1359 of 10502

Had a go at the 16.15. Trend of Bob Bob Bobbin coming in. Scalped it 4 times in that direction, one wrongly and had to ditch. Took a net 3 ticks and greened up. Profit after commission 2.01. Hee hee. It's important to start at these little amounts. Better to get used to the trading emotions at riskless levels than panic!

Scripophilist - 25 Feb 2005 16:38 - 1360 of 10502

Blondie, The guys were great, They gave me a little tour of their section at Charing cross and we ended up doing most of the meeting in the canteen. Some idiot of a delivery driver had wedged the security gate open with a toilet roll. The DC who showed me out was not impressed.

Scripophilist - 25 Feb 2005 16:39 - 1361 of 10502

Chartist will have a nose tonight and report back.

Scripophilist - 25 Feb 2005 16:39 - 1362 of 10502

Well done Bones.

Scripophilist - 25 Feb 2005 17:04 - 1363 of 10502

Not a day for favourites it would appear based upon that last race at Warwick.
