FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

What is?

goldfinger - 19 Dec 2013 11:39 - 13669 of 21973

The chart. Its just a copy from the site.

They put up various ones during the day. A bit like the the Charles Stanley bulletin.

Must come from CMC platform though. Surely they arent using third party technicals.

Tell you what Ill ask ........

just tweeted this......

@mhewson_CMC Excelent FTSE chart Mike, is that from the CMC trading platform?. A lot asking on money am. Help appreciated.

Oh right - the only option (that I can see) is to print a chart to a PDF file - no good for posting here really.

Shortie - 19 Dec 2013 11:52 - 13671 of 21973

I use Greenshot to capture the screen and then crop the image and upload to Imgur. Then capture the web address to post on here as an image.... Very long winded with the new CityIndex system but the only way I've found to do it..

skinny - 19 Dec 2013 11:56 - 13672 of 21973

IG's are pretty straight forward to using the 'save chart as image' option.

skinny - 19 Dec 2013 11:58 - 13673 of 21973

What does Greenshot give you that printscreen doesn't?

Trying to learn; goldfinger's chart - from December:

Is that a lower low on price and higher low on the oscillator?

Thanks,
KidA

@MickKipper Yes mate - from CMC Platform - the analysis is on the charts forum section so you can replicate the analysis on your own chart.............ends

Hi Kida, mikes aim was to show that the SP was facing resistance in a long term rectangular pattern. But at the same time pointing out the index was still in a down trend.

If ftse's last swing low prove to be significant then we are in a uptrend already(i think it is and im long) also cyclicals like asos hitting new highs can suggest where market is heading.

tomasz - 19 Dec 2013 12:56 - 13681 of 21973

..can suggest to certain minds...of course..to some of them like experts will do f ... all..lol

KidA - 19 Dec 2013 13:48 - 13682 of 21973

Hello goldfinger,

Cheers, I should've put my post differently; the oscillator from December:

There is the initial low, up, shallow dip, then back to up; is the bottom of the dip considered a low?

Thanks,
KidA

goldfinger - 19 Dec 2013 14:05 - 13683 of 21973

Kida the low is that 2nd green candle from the right in that downtrend channel,

The low coincided with the open, in other words the market gapped down on opening and then recovered during the rest of the day but closed off its highs hence the wick on the candle top.

Hope that helps, difficult keep having to move backwards to check whilst Im holding this lap top on my chest LOL.
