rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

IG's are pretty straight forward to using the 'save chart as image' option.

Hi Kida, mikes aim was to show that the SP was facing resistance in a long term rectangular pattern. But at the same time pointing out the index was still in a down trend.

If ftse's last swing low prove to be significant then we are in a uptrend already(i think it is and im long) also cyclicals like asos hitting new highs can suggest where market is heading.

..can suggest to certain minds...of course..to some of them like experts will do f ... all..lol

There is the initial low, up, shallow dip, then back to up; is the bottom of the dip considered a low?

Kida the low is that 2nd green candle from the right in that downtrend channel,

The low coincided with the open, in other words the market gapped down on opening and then recovered during the rest of the day but closed off its highs hence the wick on the candle top.

Hope that helps, difficult keep having to move backwards to check whilst Im holding this lap top on my chest LOL.

Skinny, with Greenshot it seams the same as printscreen to be honest. Its just what the company IT people have installed so I use it.
