How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

damn

forgot Sale were playing in the rugby tonight - theyre always a good side to lay when its international week!! as they are proving by getting stuffed by worcester

Fundamentalist - 25 Feb 2005 21:15 - 1369 of 10502

For anyone contemplating piling in on arsenal tomorrow am be aware that they are definitely without the following:

suspended - bergkamp, reyes, fabregas
injured - campbell, edu, hoyte

still should have plenty for southampton though - eh scrip ???

Scripophilist - 25 Feb 2005 22:07 - 1370 of 10502

A win would be most welcome. Arsenal can't win the league or Champions league so not much to go for. Don't want to get more injured players by fighting with a team desperate to avoid relegation?

Joined you boys a few months ago on Betfair but only just put money into my account a couple of weeks ago, been on World Matchplay, backed five longish shots and now find have two/three in quarters. What should be my stategy now?
Be grateful for your comments.

Photomad

firstly welcome

secondly - well done on the golf - looks like i let my mickleson bet run too far!!! not a good day for the top 10 ranked players

you now have 3 options - you can either let your bets run and hope one of the 3 win the tournament (maximum win potential but still with the risk you could lose your stake), you could lay off your original stake on each of the players at their current odds (leaving you with a smaller potential profit but no loss) or you could green up ie distribute your potential profit across all of the remaining players (leaving you with a smaller still profit, but one that is guaranteed)

who have you backed and at what odds?

hope this helps

Fundamentalist - 26 Feb 2005 00:08 - 1373 of 10502

Well it seems the market has little idea who will now win - of the qualifiers the prices range from 5.5 to 11 - very little covers the whole field

Fundy
Now got Scott @ 34 and Campbell or Goosen 70 or 28.
Earned every penny I can get out of this as have been watching for about 14 hours already. absolutely knackered and drained just concentrating on so many matches but hopefully worth it.

very nice - so you are rooting for campbell against goosen then (campbell 1 up thru 14) - his earlier play off must have tested your nerves lol.

Scott from 34.0 you could now lay off at 5.7. If you were to green up you would make 60.21 for every 10 you staked on him.

Fundamentalist - 26 Feb 2005 00:32 - 1376 of 10502

if you want live scores in the campbell/goosen game there is a good link below

Now all square thru 15 - looks like the earlier game may be taking its toll on campbell

Fundy
Already got the page thanks , yes was living every shot of Campbells with Jimenez but backed players in form so was confident but not so now against Goosen, one of the best in the world. Anybodies game.
An amazing day at WGC Woods,Singh,Love,Michelson all gone.
Lots of money lost on these favs.

Hi everyone,
This is my first post as I only found this thread several days ago. Downloaded the excellent slide show from the masters site (thanks peter/scrip ---------- great introduction).
My first question is for Fundamentalist -------- how do you come to 60.21 ???
(Scott from 34.0 you could now lay off at 5.7. If you were to green up you would make 60.21 for every 10 you staked on him.) should it not be 49.65
If this is wrong Fundy. (Please accept this novice apoliges in advance )

Fundamentalist - 26 Feb 2005 13:22 - 1386 of 10502

beautiful drifting favourite in the first at lingfield - layed at 1.91 backed at 2.56

Fundamentalist - 26 Feb 2005 13:39 - 1387 of 10502

Scrip

hope Prutton isnt central to your survival hopes - dont think you'll be seeing much more of him this season! its a mad tackle in a nothing area when already booked - having been sent off pushing the ref and trying to get at the linesman not wise.

Edit - compounded by the goal -im now green
