BLE 08: Galleon seeking further licensees
Samantha Loveday Oct 2 2008, 12:33pm
Skunk Fu and Apollo's Pad shown to industry at two day event.
Galleon Entertainment has made its animated kids property Skunk Fu and its young adult multi-format property Apollo's Pad available to licensees.
The Skunk Fu franchise has already been a hit in key territories, with the toy lines due to roll out in the UK and US in 2009. In addition, last month Dragonfruit Studios in the US licensed the exploitation rights to Apollo's Pad. The deal is to generate broader distribution across global digital entertainment networks, brand integration with the property, characters and music videos, plus to grow the property's community.
Apollo's Pad is a series of over 100 webisodes set in the fictional Apollo's Pad nightclub, with a cast of characters modelled after different musical genres. The series takes classic music tracks and adds humour and animation.
Skunk Fu, meanwhile, launched on BBC1 in July 2007, premiering in the US in September of the same year. The licensed merchandise began to roll out last year with home entertainment giant Warner Music Group signing the first UK DVD licensing deal.

Re Post 1371 and Mipcom:
I posted this in the header a few days ago but thought it wise to post that GON,Galleon Holdings or Galleon Entertainment don't appear to be exhibiting this year but I'm sure they are attending!
As it points out in the header Planet Nemo,Xilam and Cake Entertainment are exhibiting.

Galleon Holdings PLC
Trading update
Galleon Holdings plc (AIM: GON), the AIM listed entertainment media company developing and producing multi-platform properties with a focus on emerging markets, provides the following update on trading for the year ended 30 September 2008, prior to entering its close period and ahead of the announcement of its preliminary results in January 2009.
The Group has made good progress during the year and full year results are expected to be at least in line with market expectations.
The acquisition of Phoenix, at the end of the last financial year, and Yunbo, in February this year, have enabled us to make significant strides in rolling out our multi-platform entertainment properties in China and around South East Asia. Since the acquisition Yunbo has grown to become the tenth largest mobile service provider in China.
During the year we have formed operational relationships with several Chinese broadcasters covering different provinces across China. These agreements include co-production of Galleon's entertainment properties, Super Soccer Star and The Limit, syndication of the first series of Super Soccer Star, broadcast of Galleon's 'Play Along Gameshow' (PAGS) formats and interactive TV services, provided by Yunbo.
Galleon continues to build on the success of the first series of Super Soccer Star, which broadcast on Guangdong TV Sports Channel in China earlier this year. In addition to the syndication of the first series to other regions in China, Galleon is in advanced discussions regarding a second series of the show on a national platform across China. New series are planned for Malaysia and Indonesia, which are all expected to be broadcast during 2009. The US rights have recently been licensed to Dragonfruit Studios, an original content studio focused on multi-platform entertainment properties, which plans to launch the show in the US during 2009. In conjunction with the global sports sponsor of Super Soccer Star, Chelsea Football Club, Galleon is conducting negotiations in several other territories in South East Asia, Europe, Russia and the Middle East, building a global entertainment brand.
The Limit, an interactive, family-oriented shopping game show and Galleon's second show to air in China, is scheduled for broadcast in the Chinese New Year on Hunan Satellite, a leading broadcaster with a reach of 400 million homes.
Apollo's Pad, an interactive entertainment property aimed at a young male audience, offers online and mobile users a unique, broadcast-quality comedy entertainment show. Over 100 episodes, set in the fictional Apollo's Pad nightclub, have been produced to date. The music catalogue, which forms an integral part of the offering, is supplied by Sony BMG and EMI. The US and certain global rights to Apollo's Pad were recently licensed to Dragonfruit Studios, which will support a broader global roll-out and increased brand sponsorship.
Following the first distribution agreement in the US for the Skunk fu! toyline with Zizzle Toys in August this year, the toys are due to go on sale in the UK and US in spring 2009 in retail outlets including Tesco and Target. The Skunk fu! series is currently broadcast in the US on The Cartoon Network as many as three times per day during the week and on the weekends it is shown on the Kids WB Network and has been running on BBC1, CBBC and S4C in the UK since July 2007. The toyline has been created by Galleon's Croco Worldwide division and is another demonstration of how Galleon is able to exploit its' entertainment properties across multiple platforms.
Stephen Green, CEO of Galleon Holdings, said:
'The Company is delighted to report that trading for the year to 30 September is at least in line with expectations. We have a number of hit shows under our belt and have demonstrated that we have a robust platform and infrastructure in China and South East Asia. We are heading to MIPCOM, an international audiovisual content trade show next week with an attractive slate and are well-positioned to take advantage of opportunities this will present. We remain confident of the Group's outlook for the coming year.'

The problem with the comment below is that I find it impossible to gather any info.regarding Yunbo!I know there are hundreds of service providers in China but the tenth largest!..............I would have thought I could gain some info!

Carrying on from the above post it's alright letting the major holders know why 29p per share during the £8million placing last year was a good thing and I'm sure it will bear fruit for all but I for one would like further info.on Yumbo as in figures that justify a top ten place for mobile service providers in China!
My guess and this is a wild one-lol that Phoenix Investment Global Limited that bought Yunbo is going to be either snapped up by one of the majors for huge amounts or more likely go into partnership...................
If Yunbo are indeed as has been officially stated in the past (about six months ago) one of the fastest growing providers in China then they won't be allowed to carry on as such without some sort of offer being put on the table..............in my view.
Very exciting times and I do appreciate getting info from China is and always will be a hefty task for anyone, including me-lolz

I'm not 100% sure on this but could GON sell say 50% of Phoenix Investment Global Limited to a major China company and so still keep a vested interest in the goings on?
It would free up some money to hit Russia and surrounding areas while still making an impact in China and the USA during 2009? I'd better shut up as I'll be here all night deciding which way GON are going to go,if anywhere! Can't fault their progress so far, apart from the reflection in the SP but I can live with that during these silly times.
Edit-The above was just me rambling but may have a certain truth within....who knows.

Dragonfruit scores million-dollar licensing deal
A pair of global entertainment properties are coming to America, thanks to an Atlanta-based production studio.
Dragonfruit Studios LLC has signed a million-dollar partnership with London-based media company Galleon Holdings Plc that involves the licensing of two of Galleons entertainment properties, Super Soccer Star and Apollos Pad.
Dragonfruit is the latest venture of Michael Koziol and Melissa Honabach, founders of interactive agency Ant Farm Interactive. Galleon distributes entertainment properties in emerging markets, particularly China and Southeast Asia, and is the company behind the animated kids show Skunk Fu, which airs daily on Cartoon Network.
Currently broadcasting on the Guangdong TV Sports Channel in China, Super Soccer Star is a family-oriented reality show designed to identify the next soccer star from around the world. Apollos Pad is an online animated sitcom targeting the young male audience.
