hey welcome to europe who next in line ?

you would think that capitalism was not working .if you look at them figures let me tell you your right .

because you can not pump all that money into economies to try and stop banks that are to big to fail ,from failing because capitalism don't work like that you get rewarded if you do well and punished if you fail,........ anyone feel free

The Greek economy is being torn to shreds by the very thing meant to save it, austerity, according to Der Spiegel.

The list of awful associated with the fallout from the countrys austerity measures is daunting. Heres a quick rundown of how Greeces economy has been cannibalized, according to Der Spiegel:

Unemployment in the port city of Perama has reached a staggering 70%
A quarter of shops on the key Athens shopping street of Stadiou have for rent signs
17% of all shops in Athens have filed for bankruptcy
The unemployment rate looks set to rise to 14.3% in 2011

And, as Der Spiegel notes, a newspaper in the country is calling on the government to pray to Mary, the mother of Jesus, to save the countrys economy.

LETS not forget the great USA

The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts reports that personal bankruptcy filings for the year ended June 30, 2010 surged to a five year high, hitting 1.57 million, a 20% increase from the prior year. Furthermore, in the period between April and June, there were 422,061 bankruptcy filings, a 9% increase from the 388,148 in the previous quarter, and up 11% from 381,073 a year earlier. As Reuters highlights, quarterly filings surpassed 400,000 for the first time since a record 667,431 bankruptcies were begun in the fourth quarter of 2005, when Congress overhauled federal bankruptcy laws and made it harder for people and businesses to file. Yet while that was an administrative adjustment to bankruptcy law, this time it is all organic, and an indication of the ongoing incapability of America's politicians to fix the economic collapse. Indicatively, Nevada had the highest rate of filings on a per capita basis in the last year, with 11.74 per 1,000 people, while Alaska had the fewest, with just 1.58 per 1,000. The states with the most bankruptcies were California (241,975), Florida (107,373), Illinois (80,801), Georgia (77,809), and Ohio (72,924). A full split of all bankruptcies by state and by filing type is presented below.

You're an idiot, Fred. We were at war and Belgrano was a threat.

Erebus,

You must have had a relative on the boat.

There is such a thing as exhaustion of negotiation and winning an election.

Calm down Fred , your finger is shaking.

aldwickk - 18 Aug 2010 19:28 - 21 of 26

Once the British fleet reached the south atlantic it couldn't wait at sea for more negotiations.

The Belgrano was sailing away from the fleet , but the exocets could still be fired at our fleet, if we had lost a airgraft carrier 1,000 's would have been killed

micky468 - 18 Aug 2010 19:56 - 22 of 26

fred1 aldwickk is this what you two do for a living can't belive the power of your minds ;-)) still nice the have you on board

Fred1new - 18 Aug 2010 23:59 - 23 of 26

I don't mind you making excuses for ALd.

St the least he does present one reason for the action which I can't remember being advanced before. Could have used that argument in court.

It seems a more sensible action than sailing home for cup of tea.

But it is the sort of thing which l like about politicians, and after all it is that it is other people's lives they sacrifice.

They were bloody Argies anyway!

micky468 - Re aldwick (perfect) Fred? You may think that, I couldn't possibly comment. The Gobshite engages his mouth before engaging brain.

In an effort to bolster market confidence, the central bank announced a return to crisis-era stimulus spending.

It said it would use proceeds from maturing bonds in its mortgage portfolio to buy more Treasury debt in a bid to bring down long-term interest rates.
