IS CENSORSHIP KILLING THIS BB? (NEO)

The Bantam - 03 Jun 2003 11:11

Neo Anderson - 03 Jun'03 - 11:10 - 42 of 42 edit

Not a new post 'over there' since 9.44am.

Do you think our mate Bullshare is glad that he has banned me and gravy (and a few others)?

I think that debate adds to the vibrancy of a BB and Bullshare's harsh censorship of his own BB is killing it IMO.

Until he can stop this 'It's my football and I'll have my way' attitude that BB will slowly disintergrate IMO. I suppose that the tumbleweed effect is a symptom of the level of censorship that goes on there.

Sequestor - 03 Jun 2003 21:15 - 14 of 48

er
"by taking sides and pleasing the majority you will turn away the few prats" sounds less like polit-speak, and more like the truth, and it has worked too,
ramps reduced by 95% I would guess, insults from the chief ramper by ditto, `noise`reduced by 85% result, bliss!!!!

oh and the quote "capitalism can only exist in a democracy" is worth a
ROTFLMCO

evening Kay

Haystack - 03 Jun 2003 21:43 - 15 of 48

Slacker
I think that naming and shaming people with multiple aliases would just create more aggro. and prolong the problems. It is sufficient that AM can find them and control the problem. I don't think we should get involved in the mechanics of the process. I am just happy that a lot of the nonsense has stopped. Ainsoph was not the complete cause of the troubles. He was attacked constantly by a few posters. However, he did bring some of that on himself and when attacked, he did seem incapable of just ignoring it.

Cassis - 03 Jun 2003 21:54 - 16 of 48

From iii regarding iii.

I wonder if this is why ADVFN have all the posters.

Did this bb really stop @16.54 or is the Censor at work again?
I find it abominable that posters are treated as children to be cut off in mid sentence by self imposed do- gooders.
I have watched this bb, and been registered on it for many years, trying to post even a mild expletive is now censorable, no wonder the content is so weak.
I suggest the management take a close look at their act , and decide if they want a Mothers Union chat show, or a grown up discussion forum- come to think the former would probably not censor the word fcuk these days- hopeless.

That Curry is a serial thread starter! But note the amount of posts to this thread...nearly 11k, and thats just the main thread.

I dont know what is wrong here, perhaps it is the censorship as Neo suggests. But it would appear to need some "enlivening" or its going to go pop!

There simply aint enough posters of any type....full stop!!

superrod - 03 Jun 2003 22:02 - 18 of 48

i am rapidly coming to the opinion that anything should be acceptable and its up to individual posters to decide who to filter. ( sorry SQUELCH )

Cassis - 03 Jun 2003 22:07 - 19 of 48

Aye.

Completely agree.

If you shut people up you're only listening to part of the story.

I'm honestly thinking of starting a truely uncensored BB. The mechanics are simple, take this one, it's virtually off the shelf. It is simple to do.

Night Campers.....LOL & aye maxk (Hows the house? ;-) )

Haystack - 03 Jun 2003 22:14 - 20 of 48

This is not a matter of free speech. Free speech has no existence here. If we imagine that this is a bar in a pub that we frequent then the rules are pretty similar. The occasional harsh word or bit of aggro is alright. If behaviour goes beyond the bounds of what is acceptable to most of the other drinkers and the publican in particular, then the guilty party or parties will be asked to moderate their language or behaviour. If this approach does not work then they would expect to be banned form the pub. I am sure that most of us would see that as fair. Why should we accept a poorer standard of behaviour here?

MaxK - 03 Jun 2003 22:29 - 21 of 48

Cassis,

which one?

lol !

superrod - 03 Jun 2003 22:35 - 22 of 48

haystack
the difference is that in a pub you can smack the bugger who you disagree with LOL

probably why disputes last so long on bbs

ah well ......round 3009 tomorrow.....ding ding

Andy - 03 Jun 2003 23:12 - 23 of 48

superrod,

LOL! (but also very true)

Cassis,

Good luck with your BB, I too believe in free speech, but when people's only intention is to ruin and destroy, you either allow it to happen, or do something about it!

Funnily eneough, if you do start your "no holds barred bb" I seriouly doubt whether the main protaganists from here would join, they seem to need, and want, an audience, and enjoy the trashing of threads, denying others the opportunity for some reasonable debate.

Politics certainly has a place on here, IMHO.

Regards,

Andy.

Haystack - 03 Jun 2003 23:47 - 24 of 48

superrod
You must frequent different places from me and talk to different people, if you are liable to smack someone who you are having a ruck with. I have never felt the need to smack anyone that I disagree with.

Densil - 04 Jun 2003 08:02 - 25 of 48

Haystack,
Neither have I until I signed up here. But there are a few spamming and stalking posters who need a hearty box around the ears and a kick up the alias.

Sequestor - 04 Jun 2003 09:03 - 26 of 48

Supperer,
you have to say ting-a-ling NOT ding-ding, that will keep you clear of everyone.

Sequestor - 04 Jun 2003 09:08 - 27 of 48

Dense1,
your wish has alredy been granted a metaphorical `box around the ears and kick up the alias` has been administered to your boss, and it bugs you to death doesn`t it, even to the point of threatening violence, what a sad group you and theGroup are.

Cassis- I too saw the iii post on censorship- excellent it was too

Sequestor - 04 Jun 2003 09:09 - 28 of 48

Haystack-agree entirely that comment was typical of those who yearn to rule by force, morons.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 04 Jun 2003 09:10 - 29 of 48

Gents,

can we calm down a little bit please.

Ian

Sequestor - 04 Jun 2003 09:12 - 30 of 48

morphine for dense1 then?

Insider trader - 04 Jun 2003 09:21 - 31 of 48

Ainsoph is ok if left alone by the serial snippers. I know he/she cuts and pastes a lot, but if you are new to investing/trading, he/she must be a help and not a hindrance. I say bring Ainsoph back, and ban those who constantly attack him/her.

Sequestor - 04 Jun 2003 11:05 - 32 of 48

morning Kay

superrod - 04 Jun 2003 11:43 - 33 of 48

haystack......maybe you missed the LOL

the point is that if bb dicussions were carried out in a pub as they are here and elsewhere there would be mega bloodshed. however the fact that you are face to face with those with whom you disagree tempers the argument. you are not someone hiding in a chat room so violence would be the very last resort. in fact a pub would probably be a better place to discuss shares.
