How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Scripophilist - 27 Feb 2005 14:21 - 1403 of 10502

Response time is dreadful with Betfair this afternoon. Anybody else experiance the same thing? Off to a good start but site is not refreshing quickly enough for me and putting my captial in peril so will wait a while till the response improves.

Fundamentalist - 27 Feb 2005 14:22 - 1404 of 10502

Scrip

i assume this is what is causing the prob with AB pro

Harlosh - 27 Feb 2005 14:23 - 1405 of 10502

No probs here for a change.

Scripophilist - 27 Feb 2005 14:25 - 1406 of 10502

Everything I have used has suffered and on my redundant connection so looks like an issue out of my control. I am on BT Openworld fyi.

Scripophilist - 27 Feb 2005 14:25 - 1407 of 10502

Some great movement out there as well. I'm gutted!

bakko - 27 Feb 2005 14:28 - 1408 of 10502

Loading has been very slow and autorefresh keeps terminating.

Scripophilist - 27 Feb 2005 14:30 - 1409 of 10502

bakko - 27 Feb 2005 14:40 - 1412 of 10502

Just greened up on Newcastle. Could have done it earlier but had connection problems

Scripophilist - 27 Feb 2005 14:46 - 1413 of 10502

Just joined you. Some funny money for a moment there on Newcastle somebody laid 90k at 1.20's, Maybe trying to dig themselves out of a hole?

Scripophilist - 27 Feb 2005 14:52 - 1414 of 10502

Site seems to be back to normal.

Scripophilist - 27 Feb 2005 15:05 - 1415 of 10502

Just put my position in on the Carling Cup final. Now just trying to work out if I did it correctly!! Basically if Chelsea win it in normal time I'm in for a big payout. In extra time I will do OK. If Liverpool win I will be all square. If nobody scores till the last ten minutes and it is a draw then I could be in trouble! Only if I can't green up quickly. Talk about complex!

Blondie - 27 Feb 2005 15:16 - 1416 of 10502

Scrip's just sent u that email

Fundamentalist - 27 Feb 2005 15:19 - 1417 of 10502

Green on the rugby, backed england at 3.0, greened up at 2.0 after the try

Scripophilist - 27 Feb 2005 16:31 - 1418 of 10502

Heard from Betfair, tomorrows outage is planned in order to avoid more site slowdowns. Will be interesting to see if there is some performance improvement.

Scripophilist - 27 Feb 2005 21:39 - 1419 of 10502

Two new things I have seen this weekend on Betfair.

(1) Somebody messing up the charts on purpose. Somebody is backing and laying 90's to make the charts messy and unreadable. However people have cottoned on and are now laying at odds undetectable by the Betfair interface to try and scupper the culprit.

(2) A big hitter in the football matches that is laying huge amounts at short odds. Not sure of their motive or method.
