Statement on incident in Nigeria

"London, November 8, 2010 - A security breach has occurred on the High Island VII jackup rig, which had recently arrived on location, preparing to commence infill drilling at the Okoro field. Two crew members are stable after receiving wounds to the leg, and have been evacuated by helicopter to a shore-based clinic. It is believed that five crew members have been taken hostage. A second security breach occurred at the AT 101 support vessel. Together with our indigenous partner AMNI International, we are working with the relevant authorities and the vessel and rig are both under the control of the Company. Drilling operations on the rig are temporarily suspended. An update will be provided in due course."

ah .... now i know why the drop in sp .... all rather annoying, but perhaps a buying opportunity for those who do not hold

I think it is a time to short to 110p as drilling will now be delayed as securities have to be tightened.

Done just that.....sounds ruthless but you can pick up some other riggers anywhere....feel sorry for those guys...have to get tough out there, the nigerian authorities....

so short it and tell us how many you have done and at what price - then you'll earn some credibility

personally, this is one of my core holdings and am prepared to see some volatility, which is almost inevitable in any oily

All part of the dangers of working in or near the African continent I suppose. Although I closed my positions in AFR some days ago, I can't say this news would bother me in the slightest were I a longer term holder.

I'd also be very surprised to see a drop to 110p, but if it does I'll be back in like a shot, in fact I would have opened new SB positions at 120p had I been aware of the news this morning.

I was happy to add @ 125 yesterday (to SB).

Even with the recent news it is highly unlikely this will even dip below 120p let alone 110 target, commodities are on the rampage at the mo, even with short term profit taking oil is heading back to $100 in the next 6 months.

Probably be testing all time highs in the next 12 months, happy to hold and forget about it, stress free.
