How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

I am completely locked out. Tried everything.

Scripophilist - 28 Feb 2005 12:08 - 1425 of 10502

No answer from help desk. I would appear to not be alone!

Piptrader - 28 Feb 2005 12:13 - 1426 of 10502

No problem here Scrip. You must be winning too much :-))

Kayak - 28 Feb 2005 12:15 - 1427 of 10502

OK here Scrip. If you haven't, try closing all browsers, clearing IE cache, rebooting, and check CAPS lock. Then try disabling popup stoppers.

Finally got through to help desk. An IT issue at their end. Seems to start at accounts starting with 'S' by the look of it!!

been a couple of gambles landed in the last few races - managed to nick a few quid but nothing great - weather in this country has a lot to answer for!!!

DocProc - 28 Feb 2005 15:16 - 1435 of 10502

"There was a slowdown on Sunday for 10 minutes, that's all."

Hmmm?

I don't think he appreciates how big this problem is, or if he does, he isn't being honest about it.

chartist2004 - 28 Feb 2005 15:32 - 1436 of 10502

Dubai - Tennis Lay V. Williams! @ 1.07 back @ 1.52 to green up :o)

Fundamentalist - 28 Feb 2005 15:58 - 1437 of 10502

Just had a nice touch on Kavi at Wolverhampton - usually a hold up horse the trainer stated on Attheraces just before the off that it would front run. Backed at 2.96 before the off and layed off at 1.6 in running - it was certain to shorten in price when out in front - nice!!!

chartist2004 - 28 Feb 2005 17:11 - 1438 of 10502

What a Tennis match odds wise, Williams swings from 1.05/20 - Farina from 17.5/1.05. I was happy with + 300% at the time! over 1000% on the table!!!

Bones - 28 Feb 2005 17:35 - 1439 of 10502

Fundy - I was on a couple of horses this afternoon (Wolverhampton/Lingfield). Took 3.5 ticks as the favourite's odds came in pre-race. Later was caught out on another when its trend reversed after I laid it. It didn't win so no cost to me. In that race the winner had come in from 20 to 8 and the chart showed 40 early on. Anyone suggesting horse-racing is on the level? The guys in the commentary room didn't see it coming but they noted the "large gamble for connections". Difficult to spot these steamers when they are down the bottom of the list!

Blondie - 28 Feb 2005 17:41 - 1440 of 10502

I didn't know that you can't use betfair if you have an AOL account!!
What a load of s**t as that's all i got!!

Bones - 28 Feb 2005 18:57 - 1441 of 10502

Not sure what you mean Blondie. I use AOL as my ISP and have no difficulty using Internet Explorer for Betfair.

Blondie - 28 Feb 2005 19:02 - 1442 of 10502

Well i have tried to log on and it kept turning me down saying that i was inside the US and when i rang them they said that i could'nt use my AOL account

Scripophilist - 28 Feb 2005 19:27 - 1443 of 10502
