Jeff,

Hope you reversed yesterday.

edit: If they break 129.5 they could do a Prummie.

jeffmack - 23 May 2003 12:29 - 1430 of 23498

Morning Hil
Only one position open, short UKX at 4007. I feel we might visit the 3700 range next week. Not at work today so if you want game updated send it on home address.

Jeff

Jeff,

Thanks. You have mail.

Socrates - 24 May 2003 10:45 - 1432 of 23498

Have a great BH weekend everyone. I will be hovering around the cafe most of the weekend so if anyone wants anything, just post. I may not be in evidence, but I will be watching.

Now, where is that teapot?

jeffmack - 24 May 2003 11:02 - 1433 of 23498

Morning Socs
Shopping done now for a bit of gardening. Wife has had a right old sort out so I am going to sell some stuff at a boot sale tomorrow.

little woman - 24 May 2003 14:18 - 1434 of 23498

Afternoon all, just droping in for a quick drink before venturing out to the supermarket!

All seems pretty quiet, especially with yet another bank holiday coming up! Like buses, they come all together then nothing.........!

Socrates - 24 May 2003 15:49 - 1435 of 23498

Hi Jeffmack and Little Woman. I've been out shopping and just popped back in. I'll be hiding in the backroom if anyone wants a chat. Cleaning out the pipes on the ale pumps. Shout loud because I will have Classic FM on at full blast.

Jeff, let's have the inside story, is it a good time to invest in banks? There's lots of rumours about US banks wanting to take over British banks, who's ripe for a merger/buyout/takeover or whatever?

Hilary
That Golden Cross formation you mentioned, how steep should the rising 200/50 day MA graphs be to be a positive sign? I've found a few stocks where the cross has or is about to form but the rises are quite shallow.

OK folks, kettles on again and the sun is well over the yard-arm if you want something a bit stronger. I may be able to lay my hands on some of that Irish poteen if anyone is feeling adventurous, mind you, it's better for paint stripping than drinking!

Socrates - 26 May 2003 09:58 - 1436 of 23498

Morning has broken, superglue anyone?

hilary - 27 May 2003 08:35 - 1437 of 23498

Hello Socs,

Steepness isn't an issue. Obviously the 50ma will be rising steeper than the 200ma otherwise it wouldn't pass through it (Doh!), but the numerical value of the 200ma simply needs to be higher on the day of the crossover than it was on the previous day.

Sharescope eod have a couple of inbuilt golden crossover filters but I don't understand how they work. If you download daily ohlcv data, it's easy to bung it into a spreadsheet and get a list of daily crossovers. Otherwise, there's a good thread started by Philmiboots on the ADVFN pbb dedicated to golden crosses which he updates regularly. It's producing around 40 per month across the LSE at a guess.

Socrates - 27 May 2003 17:22 - 1438 of 23498

Hilary
Thanks, every little helps, to quote the monkey. I have located quite a few crosses in my wanderings. Some are 10/50s and others 50/200's. I am now trying to pluck up courage to anticipate the odd one. I'll have a look at thet afn thread too, sounds interesting.

While you're here, can I get you a jar of whatever you fancy?

Edit: Meant to say, have a look at CNA, heading towards a 50/200.

vasey - 27 May 2003 18:54 - 1439 of 23498

and DYS going in the right direction too, Socks!

hilary - 27 May 2003 19:08 - 1440 of 23498

Just a jar, Socs?? I need a few cans of Red Bull right now. Just got back from 90 minutes of tennis ......... phew, I'm done for!

Socrates - 27 May 2003 19:59 - 1441 of 23498

Hilary
Make it a very large jar!

Vasey
Where have you been? Yes, it's about time for DYS to do something, I'm still showing a small loss on it although I'm not really worried about it. Just don't like having red lines on my portfolio any more.

I can't remember if you were interested in SVB, I bought the open offer along with many others. Now looking for a profitable replacement for my BULM. I'm tempted to go for a bank as I feel I ought to have at least one.

Since you're here, I'll open the bubbly.

little willie - 28 May 2003 09:04 - 1442 of 23498

Morning All,
Socs..Ask Jeff re banks; if he can't give you good advice at least he'll tell you which one makes the best tea...

Golf AGM last night, my head hurts, too much Windhoek...lw

jeffmack - 28 May 2003 20:41 - 1443 of 23498

What do I know, Japanese banks are losing pots

Socrates - 28 May 2003 21:04 - 1444 of 23498

'Evening all.

Jeff, what's this about pots, it's money we are interested in not gardening or cooking. I think I ought to have a bank in my portfolio but I may be Barcing up the wrong tree. What are you into these days, shorting is not quite such a dead cert as it was, even EK is feeling the effects I see?

lw, watch that plonk, it'll do you no good.

I bumped into Priscilla on "the other board" today. Such a nice surprise. She was cleaning up on the DYS thread, up 8.5p today. What brought that on I wonder?

[:-)

vasey - 28 May 2003 22:17 - 1445 of 23498

Hi Socks: Just keeping the DYS thread alive over there and bringing the thread to the top. Thanks for opening a bottle, it would be rude to leave without a glasss........xxxx

little willie - 29 May 2003 09:23 - 1446 of 23498

Morning guys,
In need of a non-alcholic thirst quencher; lovely day in progress, believe you have the same over there, enjoy it.
Think I'll have one of the local quenchers, a pint of Steelworks, agghh lovely.
Ginger beer, lemonade, lime and Angoustera Bitters.
Haven't signed the pledge but taking Socs advice on board!!
TFC gone wild this am plus a bit of movement on my old 'dog' SPS altho' have to say that 'the minx' told me to quit whilst I was ahead..
PRM still on climb back so my huskies are working....lw

Socrates - 29 May 2003 17:32 - 1447 of 23498

Good day to you all, a nice blue day on Forky's portfolio today. The dogs are feeling the urges of spring and are stirring again.

Vasey
Another penny on DYS, which was nice!

[:-)

vasey - 29 May 2003 20:32 - 1448 of 23498

Keep the faith there, Socks! I thought of you when I saw the price change, knowing it would make at least one person I know smile!
