How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Over 2.5 goals currently trading at 1.21, Feels like there will be more goals in the match doesn't it?

Scripophilist - 28 Feb 2005 20:29 - 1450 of 10502

Ca-ching, 2-1!!

DocProc - 28 Feb 2005 20:37 - 1451 of 10502

Blondie

Before I start here, I hope I don't sound too patronising. This Internet game is a bit like "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?", in that it's easy if you know the answer, but even damned hard to get past the 1,000 level if you don't happen to know the answer.

When you have logged on to the Internet with AOL, minimise that browser window so that you now see your computer's Desktop once again.

Now launch another browser but this time, with the AOL window open but minimised, use Internet Explorer and launch it from either the icon on the Desktop or via All Programs at the Start button. Use this IE browser to access Betfair and I think you should be OK.

By the way, you can launch other IE browser windows too and even have several open at the same time - and at the same time as you have the AOL browser window open too.

I guess you could say doing it his way, how you are surfing the internet but with AOL as only your 'ISP connection' and not with AOL as your browsing method.

that will do!!!

Scripophilist - 28 Feb 2005 20:42 - 1453 of 10502

2-2, Get in there!

cunningham - 28 Feb 2005 20:59 - 1454 of 10502

OK, More of that in the second from Man city please.

Beginning to regret giving up the sports package on sky. Just tried the five live commentary from channel 855 compared to the streaming over the web. Appears to be about 20 seconds behind.

Scripophilist - 28 Feb 2005 21:31 - 1455 of 10502

Norwich now down to 10 men. Come on City.

backed city at 6.8 - still waiting to green up (getting greedy i know) so im with you cheering on city - feels strange mind

Scripophilist - 28 Feb 2005 21:34 - 1457 of 10502

Second half feels less definate than the first IMO.

Fundamentalist - 28 Feb 2005 21:37 - 1458 of 10502

Tend to agree - norwich are fighting more since the sending off - now greened up

Fundamentalist - 28 Feb 2005 21:40 - 1459 of 10502

Refs getting whistle/card happy too so play is much more broken

Scripophilist - 28 Feb 2005 21:56 - 1460 of 10502

Yes!

Scripophilist - 28 Feb 2005 21:57 - 1461 of 10502

Almost shoved my pot on City and would have netted a fortune but happy for a smaller amount and to see City push Norwich further out of reach of safety. A purely selfish motive you understand.

i put half my profit on city with 5 mins to go - very large smile here at the mo

cunningham - 28 Feb 2005 21:59 - 1463 of 10502

Was building up a nice pot on the draw by playing the decay. Thankfully greened up before the goal. More importantly city won.

For anyone planning on lumping on arsenal tomorrow - may pay to take a look at the teamsheet first. It appears Henry is now out injured which leaves Arsenal with no recognised striker available. They will be missing:

suspended - reyes, bergkamp, van persie
injured - henry, pires, edu, silva, campbell, hoyte

Fundamentalist - 28 Feb 2005 22:05 - 1465 of 10502

The above appears to be reflected in the prices - arsenal currently available at 2.0 over 90 mins and 1.47 to qualify

Scripophilist - 28 Feb 2005 22:06 - 1466 of 10502

I was going to put up I fancy a last minute goal but didn't. City seemed to be all over Norwich toward the end.

Re : Arsenal, I will be in the city tomorrow and may watch it in a pub but probably won't be betting on it.

Bones - 28 Feb 2005 22:59 - 1467 of 10502

Blondie, as I said in my earlier post, and Docproc confirms this, I use AOL as my ISP. I do not use AOL's browser to access the web. I minimise AOL and bring up Internet Explorer from the task bar. I don't have any problem with Betfair except that the Betfair website takes a ridiculous amount of time to load (about 60 seconds) compared to any other website (about 5 seconds). I have 2MB Broadband via AOL.

Harlosh - 01 Mar 2005 09:34 - 1468 of 10502

Bones,

Just timed Betfair loading and it was only 5 seconds at my end. Surprised by the 60 secs you are experiencing or suffering should I say..
