FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

skinny - 12 Mar 2014 15:30 - 14674 of 21973

10 minute - but in and out this afternoon - so not enough attention!

jimmy b - 12 Mar 2014 15:36 - 14675 of 21973

Shortie i didnt understand if it was dilution or not.

Shortie - 12 Mar 2014 15:47 - 14676 of 21973

Not a dilution no, these are shares that already existed being released into the market that's all, the price fell due to an increase in supply in the shares available against a consistant demand. Easiest way to think about it is if you were to float your company you might only allow 50% of the shares to be floated in the market, the rest you keep for yourself, then one day you decide to sell 10% into the market, now 60% are in the market and you have 40%.

jimmy b - 12 Mar 2014 15:50 - 14677 of 21973

Ok thanks for that Shortie ,it didn't read like dilution , so why the big drop ?

Shortie - 12 Mar 2014 16:01 - 14678 of 21973

Supply and demand Jimmy, if supply of shares on the market increases by 41 million shares and demand stays the same then price has to fall until demand equals supply.... Recently demand has been increasing and supply has stayed the same which is why price has been going up, so a good time for the holding company to sell the shares on the market...

Have a look at this if your still confused.
