rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.
for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ
for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

I so nearly sold TW. last week after a ride from 70p. Sometimes lethargy is rewarding :-)

Should soon start to benefit the minnows...OMI...GFM(zinc and gold)....and perhaps a few explorers as projects become feasible again....though you need longterm hedging for that perhaps..

sticky - i certainly liked the idea of HS2 being started in the north or even at both ends at the same time .... that would do far more for northern and the general economy than just tinkering with "small pensions", whatever that may mean
i confess, now it has been brought to my attention that - obviously in fact - you're looking at project to last the next 100+ years, i am leaning towards its construction, despite the wrecking of much beautiful countryside etc

Cyners I dont know what to think over HS2, winners and losers I suppose. Im all for economic growth and better communications but at the same time am against the countryside being destroyed.

HS2.....will be like in France...sleek and slender through the countryside...during construction: you will disturb the rural areas whilst building is going on on either side of the track...20 yards on either side ...perhaps less....when it is finished everything will be put back to right.....and it will be magnificent...nowhere near as wide as motorway construction,,,
