FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

Ill hold your coat jimmy.

i topped up my own dow short position at 16246 but shall let that run as i would not be at all surprised to see a reality check setting in ..... mind you, my positions are very small beer compared (i suspect) to shortie's

Shortie - 17 Mar 2014 15:45 - 14823 of 21973

All my bets are proportionate to my portfolio size, expected time traded and risk... :-)
Hence my earlier Wall St bet which if it was smaller would have been left to run..

Shortie - 17 Mar 2014 16:28 - 14824 of 21973

16250 gone short

Shortie - 17 Mar 2014 16:46 - 14825 of 21973

The chart suggests a longer term long positon Skinny but note the 200DMA arc, it looks as though it'as nearly topped out.

Shortie - I'm not sure atm, I've been busy again today and have only had a punt to the long side which netted @40 points - against the grain I know.

Shortie - 18 Mar 2014 11:30 - 14829 of 21973

Nice result yesterday Skinny. I just doubled down @ 6552.8... March is looking like its going to be a great month..!

skinny - 18 Mar 2014 12:55 - 14830 of 21973

Cheers Shortie - in and out again this morning so no position atm - any obvious cause of that run up earlier?

Shortie - 18 Mar 2014 13:03 - 14831 of 21973

Nope but I'm now carrying a few losses as a result.

skinny - 18 Mar 2014 13:07 - 14832 of 21973

Only 2.44 points tonight.

I guess maybe Putin saying he had no intention of seizing any other regions of Ukraine helped.

Shortie - 18 Mar 2014 13:09 - 14833 of 21973

Well he would say that, could you imagine if he said "stage 1 complete, now for the rest of the country!!"..

skinny - 18 Mar 2014 13:11 - 14834 of 21973

You know how fickle the markets are....

Shortie - 18 Mar 2014 13:16 - 14835 of 21973

Mmmmm, hopeing for a drop this afternoon otherwise I'm looking to take a few losses and move on.

Shortie - 18 Mar 2014 13:51 - 14836 of 21973

skinny - 18 Mar 2014 13:57 - 14837 of 21973

Bad luck Shortie - I've just gone short @6604.3 - small!

Shortie - 18 Mar 2014 14:04 - 14838 of 21973

I got a small one at 6600, fingers crossed... I'm running short of portfolio funds at the moment, think it'll be small bets for a while until I've built it back up.

skinny - 18 Mar 2014 14:19 - 14839 of 21973
