FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

Been going all day, over and over... Obviously Moneyam is using the advertising to make some money.. I get it there accross all threads..

Shortie - 21 Mar 2014 15:11 - 14924 of 21973

Yeah the video advert, as for us part-timers I can see me becoming a no-timer on the threads before too long.

I will not be on here if this doesn't stop ,which thicko thought it was a good idea to have Barry Scott screaming at you every time you open a new page ,After more than 10 years i'll just stick to IG

skinny - 21 Mar 2014 15:16 - 14926 of 21973

Its probably only meant to appear once per session - I'd email Ian - support@moneyam.com

jimmy b - 21 Mar 2014 15:19 - 14927 of 21973

Ive had a talk on here with George skinny ,i'm just hoping other folk complain.

skinny - 21 Mar 2014 15:22 - 14928 of 21973

It must be the domestos in my popup blocker.

jimmy b - 21 Mar 2014 15:27 - 14929 of 21973

I dont think a pop up blocker would do it .

skinny - 21 Mar 2014 15:28 - 14930 of 21973

The DOW is approaching break even YTD, FTSE -3%.

Are you surprised the DOW didn't drag the FTSE up with it ?

Shortie - 21 Mar 2014 15:30 - 14932 of 21973

Right I'm closing down MAM, with a bit of luck it'll be gone by Monday.

From the 'Tools' menu in Internet Explorer click on 'Manage add-ons' then click 'Toolbars and Extensions' and on the 'Shockwave Flash Object' entry right click on 'enable' and select disable. That shut it down for me. Hope that helps.

jimmy b - 21 Mar 2014 15:43 - 14935 of 21973

Thanks Rocky except i use Google Chrome .

skinny - 21 Mar 2014 15:45 - 14936 of 21973

Then do it through control panel -> Network & Internet -> Internet Options -> Programs -> manage add ons.

jimmy b - 21 Mar 2014 15:52 - 14937 of 21973

Ok thanks skinny i'll try.

cynic - 21 Mar 2014 15:56 - 14938 of 21973

as with a tv, just use the mute button!

=============

meanwhile, and as i think i commented the other day, the dow ought to be tumbling, but steadfastly refuses to do so, or at least only for a day or two
the "break down" number was 16198, and i guess it's still the same, but every time the index dips down through that, it recovers smartly
the question then arises as to whether 16525 or thereabouts will prove to be the next upwards hurdle

i've traded long in/out a few times over the last few days and managed to recoup some earlier losses, but i'll try to discipline myself to be out and stay out once (if?) the index gets close to 16500, or at least until the next direction is established

Shortie - 21 Mar 2014 16:16 - 14939 of 21973

Cheers Rocky, its a map of the world now, still and silent.... 6569 doubled down

HARRYCAT - 21 Mar 2014 16:26 - 14940 of 21973

The manage add-ons route doesn't work!!! :o( (In Chrome)
Easiest to just mute the ad by hovering cursor over the frame and clicking the speaker icon.

skinny - 21 Mar 2014 16:27 - 14941 of 21973

I don't see it - not sure exactly why.

Shortie - 21 Mar 2014 16:30 - 14942 of 21973

Rockys fix worked on my explorer, it now looks like this.. Trust me Skinny, your not missing out on anything...
