rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.
for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ
for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

You're right Cynic, that is the final solution which does work, but it's a matter of principle. The ad is annoying and they seem to be intent on finding ever more intrusive ways of pumping advertising at us. I suppose it wouldn't be so bad if it just plays once, but over & over & over &.................

I like it still and quiet, no picture is the best as its still annoying.. Maybe topless women would have been a better ad for this thread..!

What no one has mentioned is if your using mobile internet it uses about 5 times the GB , i am at the moment using mobile ,i use about 150GB per day ,today i have used just over 500GB ,if i go to a site i can switch off the video but these are on every page and you can't switch them off ,,,,, i will be off MAM until this advertising has been turned off ,there is no need for a video to be played on every page ,no other site i have ever been on has had a new video on every page .
The usage is worse than watching a youtube video as you flick between pages .
Unfortunately i have no option but to use mobile broadband at the moment.

jimmy, the box to the right has now reverted to playing just silent animations rather than full video. If it stays like that, it should use a lot less bandwidth. Let's hope MAM have got the message. ....Now I must go out and buy some Cillit Bang!

OK, did some research into this and found the following solution. For IE, go to 'Tools' - 'Manage add-ons' - click 'Tracking Protection' then in the pane below click 'Get a Tracking Protection list online' In the page that opens I selected the second entry down 'EasyPrivacy' by clicking the 'Add' button next to it. Make sure it it then enabled in the 'Manage Add-ons' entry list.
That will zap the add box completely and peace and quiet will resume.
Hope this helps. I imagine a similar fix can be used for google Chrome. If I get time I'll look into it.
I did a bit of research for 'Google Chrome' users and came up with this:
In Chrome to the right of the address bar click the 'Customize' button then select the 'Settings' option then click on 'Extensions' on the left side. - Click 'Get more extensions' There is an app called 'Adblock Plus' which claims to zap annoying ads. Presumably if you install that it will do a similar job. I don't use Chrome so haven't tried it myself. Hope this helps.

Rocky - just for info, I use Chrome and don't have that extension installed.
I don't get the ad that is so annoying people.
I do get this on IE, so I guess its something else blocking it in Chrome.

My main browser is now Chrome and I note the Adblock Plus download suggested above.
I do go on certain web sites which provide an excellent service for their subscriber users but in order to do so, they do rely on advertising. Certain facilities are blocked for you, if you in turn block the adverts. eg, AVForums. No problem with it though, as they aren't 'THIS ADVERT IS IN YOUR FACE AND YOU WILL HAVE IT!' intrusive.
I am not against advertising and I do not want to block it. But I definitely don't want it aggressively shoving in my face and particularly with a lack of tools to quieten down the loud sound which accompanies it.
I really do very strongly object to it. And I want to rebel.
My usage of the site has to be an equitable experience. If it is, I stay. If it isn't I go. Simples.
Treat me, a paying user, like a numpty and I also get to feel insulted. Simples to that too. I do the voting with my feet.
MoneyAM's T&Cs for user/members are
HERE and one can quickly see, that 'it's their site and they can do what they want' with it. By implication, if you don't like it, then you can always leave.
The advertising in that format totally pisses me off and gets me very near to that type of vote.
