FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

No Shortie i mean over a period of days or even a week or two (like holding a stock) you could hold a FTSE trade ,it may go up and down but in good times may put on a couple hundred points ?

Should have been Cillit Bang skinny.

I often let FTSE positions run - just reluctant to hold a long atm.

Shortie - 25 Mar 2014 10:33 - 14992 of 21973

Sometimes I do Jimmy, but only if I'm in profit e.g. letting them run. Wouldn't do it on the off chance of recovering a loss. Right now though was theres alot of direction I'm only after small runs, but am prepared to stake high!

Ok thanks to both of you.

Shortie - 25 Mar 2014 10:48 - 14994 of 21973

We've all carried losses in certain situations, you may short off 1st resistence knowing that 2nd resistence places you at say -30 points... It really depends, have a strategy, exit and try to stick to it.

OK, did some research into this and found the following solution. For IE, go to 'Tools' - 'Manage add-ons' - click 'Tracking Protection' then in the pane below click 'Get a Tracking Protection list online' In the page that opens I selected the second entry down 'EasyPrivacy' by clicking the 'Add' button next to it. Make sure it it then enabled in the 'Manage Add-ons' entry list.
That will zap the add box completely and peace and quiet will resume.
Hope this helps. I imagine a similar fix can be used for google Chrome. If I get time I'll look into it.

I did a bit of research for 'Google Chrome' users and came up with this:
In Chrome to the right of the address bar click the 'Customize' button then select the 'Settings' option then click on 'Extensions' on the left side. - Click 'Get more extensions' There is an app called 'Adblock Plus' which claims to zap annoying ads. Presumably if you install that it will do a similar job. I don't use Chrome so haven't tried it myself. Hope this helps.

-----------------------------------------------------------

midkinight try either of these depending on what browser you use , the best bit is your usage will actually go down from before the annoying ads were put on here ..
The moral to this story is the advertisers by annoying you now get nothing i dont see any on any site ,my usage is down by a third :)

It would seem that my avast security is blocking ad ware, maybe thats why i haven't seen it. I use the free avast too, very good.,.

I'm still short FTSE....

skinny - 26 Mar 2014 10:49 - 15006 of 21973

After it spiked after hours I decided to close and managed to get out almost at the low by sheer luck.

I didn't go long though!

10 minute starting to look tired.
