TT,

You are going to struggle by the sounds of it - it looks like the java is not being allowed through by your IT department. The only way you could get it to work would be to ask them to allow all java from MoneyAM, but I am assuming this is not an option. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do from this end which would help,

Ian

KEAYDIAN - 08 Mar 2007 11:19 - 16 of 50

TT.

I'm in the same boat as you. Sadly my IT department won't allow Java on my PC.

The only option I can think of is taking in a laptop.

Time Traveller - 08 Mar 2007 11:28 - 17 of 50

Keaydian, I used to do that at my last job as I had a similar problem. At least there I could use my old dialup account but not here. I have tried to piggy back onto a wireless network but all of the local ones are password protected and so no joy (yet) Someone else suggested a GPRS setup but too expensive for me at the moment. I'll just have to stick to Trades and graphs and see how I do!

Good luck, at least your allowed to use a laptop.

mikeylad - 08 Mar 2007 15:25 - 20 of 50

Have got the level 2 on trial, but it is as clear as mud to me can anyone point me in the right direction IE learning tools

Dieng - 08 Mar 2007 16:42 - 21 of 50

Have you looked at am 'Help' as a start. It explains why L2 exists and what the screens depict, rather than how to make money from it. I'm not sure if you are already past that stage.

Click 'Help' - Top right am page, then 'Level2' option on next page (in the very light blue boxes).

mikeylad - 08 Mar 2007 19:01 - 22 of 50

Thanks Dieng

That was spot on and gives me a better understanding of level 2.

i remember the free dvd a few years back explaining the whole thing. i have made over 350 today all thanks to L2. once i am sure it wasnt just luck i will deffo be signing up........just one point, once everyone has L2 how do you maintain an edge ?

thanks again MAM.

btw i sure dont expect to make anything like that on a daily basis but even a tenner here and there helps.

Gausie - 08 Mar 2007 21:48 - 24 of 50

super - thought you signed up years ago on the other side.

remember this from over 6 years ago?

J7 - Use CFD's - derivatives do not attract stamp duty. Firms offering CFDs normally advertise in the FT.Find a broker that allows you to enter orders directly into the SETS book. (Subscribe to Level 2 to view the book in real time from your screen)

Looking at ARM currently (Best example I can find quickly - there's no good examples when the market is closed):

If you don't understand what you're looking at, click here, otherwise this explanation will be wasted on you. :-)

This looks like an intraday short from good resistance @ 508.If I were to short ARM 3,000, I have three options:-

1) I can sell 2114 at 501.5, with the remaining 886 at 500.5 and be instantly filled at an average price of just over 501. This is what a conventional broker will probably offer you if you wanted to short or close a long.

2) I can place a sell order for 3,000 @507 (or 507.5) - in which case everybody's screens will update to show a new price of 501.5/507. I run the risk of not being filled or of being part filled if somebody else comes in at say 506. Interestingly, If I were filled @ 507, I could immediately place a buy order @502, which, if filled, would net me an instant 1% before commission (I pay 0.5% for the round trip).

3) I can place a sell order at 508 - in which case I join the back of the 508 queue, and get filled once all of the other 508s are filled (Dumb move on this book, but would strengthen the resistance if I was already short)In this example, my whole short would have been based on the resistance at 508 (50,000 is a significant sell order for ARM). So my stop loss says that the second 508 is breached, or the 50,000 @ 508 order is withdrawn, I'm out. I would have been proved wrong. ie stop loss is near as damnit 0%.Hope that answers your questions.

superrod - 08 Mar 2007 22:01 - 25 of 50

Gausie
i do indeed remember....was it really that long ago?
couldnt afford L2 then ( i know you will say false economy ), but i relied on momentum trading then. apart from anything else i feel this extended freebie will actually help me understand how it works. its early days but promising. good to see you still around, dont see many left from the "old" days.

Gausie - 08 Mar 2007 22:33 - 26 of 50

I think it's probably that long since ARM was a fiver!

hugybear - 12 Mar 2007 08:22 - 27 of 50
