Who is the Best and Worst Tipsters on MoneyAM (BEST)

Kivver - 18 Dec 2005 18:53

After reading some of comments on other threads, some praising others and some knocking others, I thought it might be interesting for us to comment on who's judgement you DO and DO NOT trust.

contitevespuff - 19 Dec 2005 12:15 - 15 of 47

Can anyone tell me why trouble follows Dil everywhere ?

partridge - 19 Dec 2005 14:00 - 16 of 47

Endorse what Scrip says. If you buy anything which does not make money, generate cash and pay dividends, then do not bleat if you lose it (in some cases, fairly quickly).

moneyman - 19 Dec 2005 15:05 - 17 of 47

contie cause he's a herb ;-)

Kivver - 19 Dec 2005 18:07 - 18 of 47

ask a simple question??? lol.

ramu - 20 Dec 2005 16:51 - 19 of 47

Best - ninceonecyril. Only two tips in MoneyAM, VOG more than trebled at one stage and IEC almost doubled. Both shares were tipped in July at 41p and 296p respectively. I think VOG is now hovering around 96p and IEC is about 450p.

Worst - has to be goldfinger. Too many examples - take your pick. Follow goldfinger's tips and you'll end up with burnt fingers. This guy works in industrial cleaning and his tips are just good the bucket. Maybe we should call him burnfinger!

Kivver - 20 Dec 2005 17:38 - 20 of 47

Thank you Ramu, for well written and sensilble reply.

Dil - 20 Dec 2005 20:24 - 21 of 47

Bit harsh on Goldfinger , posts a lot of sense on many threads imo.

Worst ... Sue Helen , best .... your own research.

squidd - 20 Dec 2005 20:55 - 22 of 47

Kivver: Over many years, I too have searched for the Holy Grail of investment - Just find out who usually gets it right and follow them. Often at the year end, many national papers publish their assessment of fund managers' performance, aiming to identify the master, but among the many thousands of professional and amateur researchers, there seems to be no outright winner, or if there is , they are keeping very quiet. The best I've ever found was John Lee an FT colunmist, who some years ago made a genuine 1M in his PEP/ISA and in the process, led readers along the way (I followed only a short distance); unfortunately, he is much less active nowadays.
Throughout this year, I have been using Sharescope watchlists to chart the tips from all the main contributors on this BB, to see whether anyone stands out and so save us all a lot of DYOR research. There is no clear winner and I will be reporting my impressions of this survey at the year end.

Interesting idea squidd but if there were a holy grail do you really think "gurus" like Michael Walters and Tom Winnifrith would be charging users to access their "tips" ?

Better off finding something your comfortable with and works for you and sticking to it.

Good luck.

katcenka - 20 Dec 2005 23:47 - 24 of 47

its got to be me ;-)

cause my tips are TFC SER SCO PXC ORM BSP CSH

Dil - 20 Dec 2005 23:49 - 25 of 47

Well your above MW and TW imo :-)

Kivver - 21 Dec 2005 00:22 - 26 of 47

well things never cease to amaze me, I knew you was one of the worst tipsters Kat but too come on here and nominate yourself and actually mention all the tips we should all stay well away from was very brave. Thanks for your honesty and warning.

ringos_tar_2000 - 21 Dec 2005 07:10 - 27 of 47

Worst goldfinger - after making copious research, all his tips are usually at the bottom when he tips them, people buy they go up he sells. Nice arrangement.

Even more bad is paul masterson. Mind you if you short any of this tips, you come up a very big winner. ( i.e. EVS MMG LGB). On second thoughts, shame he is banned really.

jimmy b - 21 Dec 2005 09:35 - 28 of 47

ringo , you contradict yourself,,
lets get this straight ,Goldfinger tips a share at the bottom ,, people buy,, they go up ,, he sells,, why don't people sell ???
If the SP has gone up ,,you've made money.. I'm confused..

Fred1new - 21 Dec 2005 10:02 - 29 of 47

I think if one parades a share as a buy it would be appropriate to give reasons why, if it is a short term trade or a long term hold. Again if the share sold later an indication of why at that point in time.

We all have certainties when we buy and only sometimes get burnt and sell.

Sometime going back to that share at a later date.

jockburns - 21 Dec 2005 12:18 - 30 of 47

I think goldfinger is the best tipster on the board. Can only think that the ones having a dig are the same person under different handles. Ive been put onto a few of his and do my own research.
Worst tipster, anyone who ramps for personal gain.

sinutab - 21 Dec 2005 12:22 - 31 of 47

yes gf is a top poster. jealous others
try to take credit away.

bad poster dil.

goldfinger - 21 Dec 2005 12:49 - 32 of 47

Blimey what a childish thread. I thought we were well past this kind of thing on this B/Board. Im sure Kivver didnt mean it to turn out this way.

Lets face it, if you follow a poster blind you deserve to end up in trouble. DYOR is the thing. Surely recommendations here are just a starting point and thats all they should be. If a poster puts you onto what he or she thinks is a good thing then you should do your own research and then buy if you are satisfied that you have personally covered all the angles. Its also your responsibility to sell when you beleive market forces dictate.

Please dont blame others for your own mistakes.

Can we now please move on to an adult debate.

cheers GF and have a merry xmas.

I hope you can answer this ringo , GF tips a share ,,it goes up, whats the problem with that !!!

Actually iv'e taken note of about 5 shares he tipped this year ,one did nothing and four made very good gains,if you got in early you would have made good money, if you got in after the first couple of months you might not.

jimmy b - 21 Dec 2005 12:58 - 34 of 47

Shouldn't worry about it GF ,,recently the BB has all sorts of new threads ,with people slagging each other off, must be people who lose money and need to take it out on someone.
