FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

I'm still short FTSE....

skinny - 26 Mar 2014 10:49 - 15006 of 21973

After it spiked after hours I decided to close and managed to get out almost at the low by sheer luck.

I didn't go long though!

10 minute starting to look tired.

Gonna hold short for now, the bull case is above 6600 and its struggeling to keep its head up right now.

OK - I am long on the FTSE at 6620 and I am watching the DOW on a continuous upward trend since 8am this morning - but the FTSE seems to be hell bent on going in the opposite direction. I have a stop at 6630 - so I guess it will hit that then bounce - which is what normally happens when I set a stop !!!!!

Any reason why the divergence ??

Shortie - 26 Mar 2014 11:32 - 15014 of 21973

Not on a 10min chart, no, anyones guess..

skinny - 26 Mar 2014 11:47 - 15015 of 21973

Closed for +6.6 for now.

Seymour Clearly - 26 Mar 2014 11:49 - 15016 of 21973

bhunt - you could move your stop back to b/e. No win if it hits but no loss. Depends on your timeframe.

edit - I guess it's already been hit - so it's hypothetical.

skinny - 27 Mar 2014 13:38 - 15017 of 21973

Thank you Mr DOW :-)

cynic - 27 Mar 2014 13:51 - 15018 of 21973

been out, but having seen dow, does one assume that the 2 sets of numbers were not pretty?

Shortie - 27 Mar 2014 14:03 - 15019 of 21973

Getting trounced on the Insurers again today, but just closed an intraday long on PHNX +80 - which helps.

Shortie - 28 Mar 2014 15:40 - 15022 of 21973

I'm slightly down today, FTSE -26pts currently, EUR/GBP -15 pts... Not the end of the world, didn't really want to carry anything over buy think I probably will.
